It’s all about Harry Kane in the world of Fantasy Premier League this week, and with good reason.

In this latest article I’ll be giving my thoughts on whether he’s worth signing for Gameweek 8 as well as touching on a few other areas.

They include Manchester City rotation and my plans for budget options in defence and attack.

To Kane or not to Kane?

Kane is the standout captaincy option in the final Gameweek before the dreaded international break as Spurs host Cardiff. A brace against Huddersfield last week and a goal against the mighty Barcelona on Wednesday night has FPL managers ripping up their teams to fit him in.

Will he send his backers into the break buzzing or will he frustrate in a so called ‘easy fixture’ like he has done many times before? Is he back to his best or is it chasing last week’s points?

Whether you’re on the Kane train or not, Saturday’s game at Wembley is sure to be entertaining.

When I finish typing this, I’m going to hoover my living room, paying more attention than usual to the area behind the couch because that’s where I’ll be from 3pm to 5pm on Saturday.

As much as I’d like to own Kane and captain him this weekend, I don’t want to lose Eden Hazard, Mohamed Salah or Sergio Aguero to do so. Spurs have a tricky run of fixtures after the Cardiff match and he hasn’t passed my eye test yet this season.

The David Silva myth

There’s a belief among some in the FPL community that David Silva can’t play three games in a week because a ‘source’ claiming to be ‘close to the player’ said so. This information came out when the Spaniard was rested for the Cardiff game. Since then, he’s played three games in seven days against Oxford United, Brighton and Hoffenheim.

Like the Sergio Aguero fiasco in Gameweek 2, the lesson here is to trust your instincts rather than those of others who claim to be ‘in the know’. I expect to see Silva’s name on the City team sheet for the Liverpool game on Sunday. He’s pivotal for them while Kevin De Bruyne is out, and he’s got two weeks to put his feet up afterwards, having retired from international football.

That said, even though I think he’ll play this weekend, Silva could be the makeweight in a double move I make to improve my strike force. Five games without a goal for Callum Wilson has me worried and losing patience. I’m eyeing up Marko Arnautovic to replace him with Richarlison coming in for Silva.

The Holebas roller coaster

As the clock ticked past eighty minutes at the Emirates on Saturday, Holebas was looking good for an unlikely clean sheet and three bonus points. It was too good to be true. He’s now scored me a grand total of two points from three matches since I brought him in after accumulating thirty-four points in the opening four Gameweeks.

I’ll be taking another ride on the Holebas roller coaster this week, so you can be certain that he’ll pick up his fifth yellow card of the season after Callum Wilson wipes out his clean sheet!

Good luck to all in Gameweek 8 and stay strong during the international break.

You can follow the FPL General on Twitter HERE. He has achieved three top 500 finishes in the last four seasons.

Can someone give me an opinion on my WC team?

    Fabianski / Button
Trippier, Alonso, Doherty / Wan-Bissaka, Bennett
Salah, Hazard, Maddison, Knockaert / Obiang
    Aguero, Lacazette, Jimenez

Only gripe really is does AWB really still offer the amazing value he did in the coming fixtures

Probably not, but he's cheap and playing regularly.

Looks good. Pretty template except for Laca. I would go Vardy instead but both are good choices.

Why no Kane if you're playing your wildcard?

Cos he has bad fixtures and Salah has good ones presumably

        1. Pinturicchio10
          7 years, 9 months ago

Can't squeeze him in for one week even? Poor effort there for me.

Anyway, don't like that wildcard team at all. Not that it's bad, just pretty much the obvious picks all over so very template. Also, why not wait a week until the international break? Basically playing it a week too early and then not buying the most explosive player of the round. Makes no sense to me.

I disagree. Check ownerships and the direction players are going. Aguero over Kane this week not a template move, Jiminez 6%, Laca 7%, knock 1.2% etc

I can see for our five. I don't understand your point. Are you suggesting that half of his players should be low ownership differentials? That would be insane.

No Richarlison, Wilson, Fraser, Kane, Robertson, Mitro etc etc. It isn't template, you're wrong. And I'm interested to know what you would suggest that would take it further into differential territory

Arnie is playing through pain barrier. I think Lacazette has more chance of scoring given the fixtures. Kane has only one good fixture left.

I think you can afford to lose Alonso (perhaps for Robertson, or Mendy if he's announced fit), could then upgrade AwB or Obiang.

      Love the Knockaert pick

I'm still so undecided about whether to bring Kane in or not, any move I do would be for a -4 and then WC next week so I'd have Salah back for his run of nice fixtures.

Which of the below do you prefer:

    A) Kun & Shaw > Kane & Taylor
    B) Salah & Zaha > Pogba & Kane (or other mid up to 8.2)
    C) Salah & Ings > Yarmalenko & Kane (or other mid up to 6.8)
    D) None of those, just 1FT punt on something like Lennon (for billing)

          Fair tfrs.

I missed Robbo in all fairness but I don't see his output continuing as it was the start of the season. I could be proven wrong but I see you having impending issues with the likes of Alonso, Trip and even Jonny/Doherty smashing your defender scores. That's dismissing the lack of rich, madd, salah from the mid. Also Wilson is on a downward turn. Good luck, may the arrows be ever green!

It's time to shift Josh King. I have money ITB for either Arnie or Vardy but I can't decide who to go for. Both Leicester and West Ham fixtures are pretty good, which makes my decision harder.

What’s the rest of your team look like? I’ve got Vardy and very happy since he returned from suspension (even captained him 2 weeks ago)
Overall probably not a big difference so if you can invest the ~2m wisely in midfield maybe Arnie works better
      Vardy better fixtures overall
I’ve got Mitro as 3rd striker and will look to shift to arnie in a few weeks

Fair point. As set and 'forget' as one can get. He does like an injury as does Kun...can't detract from his potential output meanwhile. Plus easily replaceable at any given time with his price point.

If I didn't have Kane, I'd be tempted to captain Son or even Trippier this week

I want to pick Vardy but I feel Hazard is the way to go for my squad his week.

    couple of quick questions:

    1) Who would you rather have for next two gw's...hazard (sot, MUN) or Salah (MCI, hud)?

2A) Robbo + Hazard for next two gw's or
    2B) Doherty + Salah

3C) Doherty + King for next two gw's or
    3D) Bennett + Zaha

Hazard. Form so much better and fixtures the same at worst.

2A, although Trippier over Robbo if you don't have him already?

      3D

WC before IB and Kane out. That team would need to have serious problems to do that.

is Mane enough cover for gw9: hudd and cardiff or is salah essential?

none of them are essential unless you have that "fear" thing in your heart. Their current performances probably wont allow essential status at the moment 😮

    Mane. Not too fashionable recently...

However, only behind Sterling and Hazard for shots on target in the last 3 games.

Two of those being away at Spurs and Chelsea.

    Great fixtures looming

Is Lamela now a short term option? See that he did not play a single minute against Huddersfield last weekend

No think you have good team providing City and Liverpool does not end up 5-4 or something like that!
