Gameweek 8 marks the emergence of new popular faces in the top Fantasy Premier League teams.

Harry Kane’s recent form and the easy (on paper) fixture against Cardiff made many managers consider selling one of their expensive assets to be able to afford him.

How many managers did that and how that affected ownerships in the top 10,000 teams is the focus of this article.

Captaincy

Kane does rank very competitively among the top 10k for the first time this season with 52.5% of teams in that bracket giving him the armband, Eden Hazard coming in at second with 33.2%.

Gameweek 7 was actually the first time Kane was high in the captaincy rankings, where he ranked second, but that was with just 4.7% as the majority went for Sergio Aguero that week. In a complete reversal, Aguero captaincy percentage is just 5.4% this week.

In addition, 1.01% of the top 10k managers actually played the Triple Captain chip on Kane this week.

In terms of effective ownership, Kane reached his season of 108.4% this week which makes him the second after Hazard with 128.1%.

Compare Kane’s new effective ownership to his 17.9% of last week and this give us an idea about how more managers have backed him this week.

Most Selected Players

Looking at the most selected players in the top 10k, we see that Aguero’s ownership has dropped dramatically this week, down to to just 68.9% compared to Gamweek 7’s 93.3%.

Another player who suffered significant top 10k ownership decrease is Sadio Mane, who dropped from 52.9% to 38.9%.

It seems that Hazard and Kane dominated the top 10k transfers this week, with Kane rising from 17.6% to 55% and Hazard from 84.2% to 94.8%, which makes him the most owned player in the top 10k.

Meanwhile, if we focus only on Wildcard teams activated this week, we see that it’s very similar to the most selected team. However, the exceptions are Marko Arnautovic being the more popular third striker instead of Aleksandar Mitrovic and more opting for the cheaper Liverpool defender of Trent Alexander-Arnold instead of Andrew Robertson.

Chip Usage

That being said, not many Wildcards were active this week, only 2.1% relative to 4.6% last week. The second most popular chip this week is the Free hit with 1.7% usage.

The Free Hit managers probably wanted to keep hold of Salah, Mane and /orAguero for the long run and still benefit from Kane’s potential points.

While Kane is the popular pick this week, it remains to see how Salah, Mane and Aguero will perform in their mutual clash as they suddenly became picks of a more differential nature.

Zaha for Mitrovic probably worthwhile looking at Fulhams next 3 fixtures.

Switch Mendy to Zabaleta or Diop, a 4.5 mil DEF or even Holebas. Then if you´re fixed on Salah you will have to compromise on KDB, drop him to Richarlison and bump up Arnie or Mitrovic to Aguero.

Could even consider in addition, KDB to Maddison and Vardy to Lacazette

    3. korbendallas82

Looks like You cant have KDB and Hazard in midfield with Salah. Maby spilt KDB and Hughes between two players like Maddison/Richarlison, who you could play every game.

I went into GW8 in 2200th position and seem to have a different setup to these findings!

Also, didn´t bother with Kane. I have Aguero, Lacazette, Zaha, Hazard (c), Mané, Moura, Richarlison, Shaw, Doherty, a selection of cheap defenders with TAA warming bench... then RYAN 🙂

+ 2 FTs for next week and wildcard still in the back pocket, c´mon!

        Mane + Dilva
        Salah + Knockaert (-4)

        1. Francescoli

Not sure I fancy Dilva. He was so frustrating to own last season - he is a never again for me. Particularly now with KDB coming back.

When you put it that way, I’m more inclined to go with Salah and Knockeart, even if it means a hit.

  10. Dr. Rog
    • 16 Years

    bottomed

    Ederson (Hamer)
    Alonso Mendy TAA Doherty AWB
    Salah Hazard Richi Madi (Westwood)
    Aguero Wilson Jiminez
    0.7 bank

Pretty sure I will want to bring in Pat+Fab in goals and Arnie upfront over the coming weeks - to do that right now would still leave me 0.5 to spare. There is no rush to get Fab until wk 11 and no price pressure so he can wait. Ederson + Wilson both have great fixtures in wk9 (BUR & SOT), whilst Pat + Arnie have WAT & TOT in wk9 slightly tougher although their prices are rising. I most likely can still afford them later if I wait, but money is money and could well be useful later on. I may for instance want to upgrade someone like westwood.

Option A) Do nothing, save a free transfer. Buy them more expensive later on
Option B) Hamer --> Pat for a freebie. Pat doesnt get played next time out but will have secured his services at 4.5m, leaving only arnie as a more expensive buy at 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 later on.
Option C) Get greedy and bring in Pat + Arnie now for Ederson and Wilson; for a hit.

    1. SADIO SANÉ
      • 11 Years
      7 years, 10 months ago

Arnie won't go up now I don't think, people will just buy whoever scores this week. Pat will go up but he could also get injured - option A

    2. MTPockets
      7 years, 10 months ago

With most games and a 2 week break to go I think you're too focused on price for a couple of could-wait picks.
      So A for now.

Yeah mate A, no point doing a tranfer now for a keeper you surely won´t play in GW9, Ederson has Burnley home. Thik the rest of the team´s fixtures shape up nicely as well, so just bank it.

Yeah it probably won't pan out like that but no harm having a plan I guess. Reckon Robbo is worth the extra £ over TAA?

Do you think I should Wildcard? I'm scared I made a huge mistake in not bringing in Kane this week. Currently coming first in my mini league but 2nd is close behind.

ALSO looking to catch price rises so my Team Value can increase.

    Current Team:

    Fabs Foster
    WanB Tomkins Robbo Alonso Doherty
    Mane Hazard Rich Maddison Stephens
    INGS Kun Mitro

    TIA

With that team, u are set well for next week. The point of Kane tf, was to have him this weekend. Wasting your wild card now is just a waste. People even plan to do Kane to Aguero, gw9.

Laca Vardy Arnie OR Aguero Arnie Mitro/Murray

    3. Deulofail

Depends on the performance and news regarding Aguero and Jesus (and everyone else in every outfield position). Vardy would probably be one of them. Then maybe Arnie, Aguero, Jimenez, Mitrovic, Firmino, Lacazette, Murray, Iheanacho, Giroud, in approximately that order of priority.

    4. MTPockets
      7 years, 10 months ago

Aguero, Mitrovic + Vardy/Arnie or cheapo to afford better mids

Looks like the Friday evening deadline saves Salah from another price drop. If this weeks deadline was 11:30 on Saturday he would've dropped to 12.8 for sure.

    Which would you prefer:

    1. Downgrade Robertson > TAA
    2. Downgrade Ederson > 4.5/4.6
    3. Downgrade Trippier > Doherty/Jonny

Basically one of these downgrades allows me to bring in Salah...
