Richard Clarke is among an elite core of managers who have topped our Hall of Fame, which is based on the career achievements of those in our Fantasy Premier League mini-leagues.

He achieved this momentous feat just last month and after since slipping to 11th spot he is keen to once again return to the summit and secure his ambition of being number one when the season ends.

In the latest in our Meet the Manager video series he reveals how he plans to see off the competition and discusses the strategies that have earned him such incredible success over his 12 previous campaigns.

With seven top 10,000 finishes, including last season’s 263rd and a 303rd rank in 2011/13, he is a competitor that cannot be underestimated. In fact, he is yet to have a poor season, with 2015/16’s end rank of 32,547th his ‘worst’ to date.

Richard (FPL team link here) discusses the importance of keeping tabs on elite managers and the season ticker. He also reveals how analysing probability can ensure managers make their own luck.

This season’s trends are also discussed, as he reveals which heavy hitter he is looking to shun on his upcoming Wildcard and how the tried and tested ‘eye-test’ let him down badly last weekend.

The chat with Richard is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

The first Meet the Manager video, featuring Triggerlips, can be viewed here, while the second, featuring Philman, can be seen here. Last week’s episode, featuring Will Thomas, is available here.

Hazard has returned in 7/8 games including LIV

Hazard has scored 66 to Aguero's 30 since Kuns Hatrick

        Hazard also hit 20

Kun blanked 3 times to Hazards 1

United have conceded more goals then Burnley.

So who is the brave one?

      This is a tough one.

I don't have Aguero and won't be bringing him in. Burnley have only conceded max 1 goals in the last four fixtures. I think they've turned a corner and will frustrate City. Max 60 for Kun also looking forward to Shakhtar away.

Liverpool assets must be considered. I'll be transferring in Mane - he's one of my main candidates. Robertson also in my mind as a differential - CS nearly guaranteed and an assist is not out of the question.

I'm half tempted with Wilson as a differential - SOT (h) could be juicy.

Hazard is a tough one - if Utd are a shambles that day then he could get a 20 point haul! But.. we all know Mou gets up for the big games and if he is still there it wouldn't surprise me if they ground out a win.

      Mane or Hazard for me..

As a matter of interest, does anyone have an idea of what the drop off rate is in fantasy football players in a typical season-just to get a reflection of ranking. Beating players that have given up shouldn’t really be counted.
Also wondering how far off professional ff players are? I know in the US there are professionals already. Surely it must be similar in this?

    1. ChristoBisto

Who pays the professional ff players in US? There are pros here who earn money from it by doing YouTube videos for ad revenue, or one guy who earns through Patreon.

I think it’s through private leagues and then there is a certain amount of sponsorship. Some of the pro-poker players have moved into it. I know people here that make a handy second income out of it but no one professional as such.

Whilst I actually agree with you on Aguero and have made comments on here over the past two weeks which have drawn ridicule, I think it's brave/foolish to go without any City players given they will probably be the top goal scorers, and finish at least top two in the league.

...and if you were to do a similar analogy of Salah,

No double digit returns all season
Only 1 return at all in the last 5 games
Subbed early in 2 of those last 5 games
          1.5m more expensive than Aguero.

Is anyone else thinking of taking Alonso out?

His stats since gameweek 4 have been pretty average. Still getting forward (not to the same extent as gw1-4 though) but his touches in final third and penalty area are down massively.

Someone on here, about 5 weeks ago, suggested Sarri had reigned him in a bit.

More importantly though, his drop in attacking threat is aligned to full pitch time for Hazard - GW4. With Hazard in such good form, and dominating the left flank, I'm not convinced we're going to see the same level of attacking returns from Alonso.

6.7 to 4.7 (Doherty) creates some decent upgrades elsewhere.

Great fixtures coming up and I got him at 6.6 so doesn't feel that expensive. Looking at a GW15 WC, so happy to reasssess then if he doesn't get returns against the likes of CRY/EVE/FUL.

Whisper it, but has the time of the King that is AWB come to an end?

Terrible fixtures, Bennett appears to be in a better team, and they both are essentially the same price, with Bennett having he potential to rise for profit?

I think you're right and if I didn't have both I'd do AWB -> Bennett. However I think he's still bench fodder worth keeping at that price - with every (increasingly rare) cs for Palace he still hoovers up the bonus.

And who knows? If they really get dragged into a relegation dogfight Hodgson might prioritise tightening up at the back

Potentially so, later down the line hat could be the key. But looking at their next 10 fixtures he is so unlikely to play, may as well get someone in from a better team.

I don’t see any value in Bennett at all. Doherty has more than proved that he’s worth a measly 0.4m more than Bennett.

Also AWB should just be a good second or theirs bench option until his tough fixtures pass.

I think most people should focus their transfers on bigger “problems” than their cheapest player having a few tough fixtures.

      1. IRBOX ⚽
        • 9 Years

For those with a big 3 at the back, Bennett is better value than Doherty.. why pay the extra to sit on the bench?

As a Robbo, Alonso, Mendy owner, 0.6m between them though could go along way to something else if you really need it and won't be playing Doherty! I've just brought Doherty in on wildcard over Bennett. Perfect 1st sub if rotation strikes and happy to fork out the extra for squad depth ... given I've sold Salah (no ragrets), the extra outlay seemed worth it given the bundles of cash my pockets are filled with

I have a wildcard in play and will have two Liverpool defenders so that third spot is flexible. Not really an issue to bring in or not.

Also, what’s the issue with sorting out your team in a manner that suits the individual?

What if they don’t have any bigger problems to sort? And they wanted to make their bench or squad depth more palatable. Every transfer doesn’t have to be Aguero to Kane standards.

    1. TAA(Already have Robbo, confusion regarding playing time)

    2. R Pereira (never owned him and not much idea. Good fixtures)

3.Doherty (hot property for now, bad fixtures in 2 weeks)

Where to go for 3rd defender?

    Lukaku & Dilva out for:
    A) Mitro + Salah

    Or

Lukaku, Dilva & Ake out for:
    B) Mitro, Sterling & Robertson -4

I wouldn't mind doing B. Robertson has very nice fixtures and the hit will be easily covered during those fixtures

cr*p; promised myself i would do 2FTs till after int. break but had beers last night and saw that Wilson was (supposedly) going up and had exact money for:
    Vardy + Mitro > Laca + Wilson
    So i did it.
Feel it was a bit sideways and could well backfire

      Wow. Awful move.

Lots of people trying to get in Vardy and Mitro. But look good picks.

Must admit, it certainly looks a waste of two frees.

I have Vardy and Mitro, and personally they're the two I'm hoping for returns from this week. I might get Wilson in but it'll be at the expense of Kane.

A seems most balanced as you get Pool, Citeh coverage at back and Pool coverage in centre.
perhaps make transfers so you can get Salah in for the next game if he riots.

Not sure if this is classed as bold or stupid but someone talk me in to/out of it: Mooy/Bernard Rotation from GW11.
    Gameweek:
    11: M (Fulham (H))/B (Brighton (H))
    12: Mooy (West Ham (H))
    13: Bernard (Cardiff (H))
    14: Mooy (Brighton (H))
    15: Bernard (Newcastle (H))
    16: Bernard (Watford (H))
    17: Mooy (Newcastle (H))
    18: Mooy (Soton (H))
    19: Bernard (Burnley (a))
    20: Mooy (Fulham (a))
    21: Mooy (Burnley (H))
    22: Mooy (Cardiff (a))

    A) Bold - go for it.
    B) Stupid - forget it.
    Thanks in advance 🙂

Well this is assuming Richarlison looks good upfront going into GW11 of course.

        1. MTPockets
          7 years, 9 months ago

Fair enough. Just that Bernard's a LW and Richarlison is Silva's golden child.

True - hoping he stays up top as a result. Already have Richarlison at the moment, this post is more of a backup plan if anything.

Yeah i thought I'd get this. You're not wrong, but surely they have to score a few more eventually, and Mooy looks the man to profit if they do.

They really don’t ‘have to score a few more eventually’. Don’t kid yourself into thinking they are due. Huddersfield are being underestimated for how bad they actually are because of the Cardiff smokescreen. I think Huddersfield are the worst team in the league and one of the worst teams to be in the PL for a long while.

    1. MTPockets
      7 years, 9 months ago

A chance, but like the late surge to Kane/sale of Aguero and Salah last gw there'll soon be articles and chatter about Liverpool's great fixtures etc. So doubt it

You are probably right. He is down to 33% ownership and I reckon I high percentage of those will be dead teams.

Dead teams or teams that have held him through tough fixtures and want to see it through now he has decent fixtues.

All through it would be sweet it we could get a drop out of him before the deadline.

There’s a chance, but very slim I’d say.

Plenty will take him out but I doubt anywhere near enough for a drop considering his ownership levels and the fact he’s playing on of the worst two teams in the league.

      who is the 5th mid?

It's a nice side, but i'd try and squeeze Doherty in the defence, maybe trippier out, Doherty in and the change to upgrade Hennessey?

    2. MTPockets
      7 years, 9 months ago

Defence kind of relies on Aurier remaining injured (no Trippier rotation), but looks fine.

5th mid is Billing. Its not a WC team but to get the team in planning.

Alonso Moura kane - Zab Salah Laca

Later i will change Trippier is hes no good. And a keeper change is a luxury id like to do if i get the chance. Thx a lot

    A) Trippier -> TAA

What's the latest opinion on TAA? It was tactical to play Gomez at RB and TAA should be back starting?
