Which FPL players are on international duty ahead of Gameweek 9?

A week of international fixtures gets underway today, with two African Cup of Nations qualifiers and a cluster of friendlies kicking off a nervy period in which we keep our fingers crossed in the hope of our Fantasy assets returning to England unscathed.

This article gives a club-by-club rundown on which assets will be away from their sides during this period, also detailing the dates in which these players will be competing for their respective countries.

There are four players in action in the early hours of Wednesday, October 17 who then face a long-haul flight back from the Americas: Alexis Sanchez (£10.0m), DeAndre Yedlin (£4.5m), Davinson Sanchez (£5.8m) and Raul Jimenez (£5.6m).

Davinson was among the substitutes in Spurs’ Premier League match against Liverpool immediately after the September international break, though Yedlin was thrust straight back into the Newcastle United starting XI for the visit of Arsenal. Alexis Sanchez sat out Chile’s previous two fixtures last month, while Jimenez was recalled early by Wolves as a precautionary measure in plenty of time ahead of Gameweek 5.

Manchester United are in action in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday, October 20, so it remains to be seen whether Alexis features from the start against Chelsea after his exertions in Mexico next Wednesday morning. Jimenez and Wolves, meanwhile, take on Watford at 3pm on that same Saturday.

The good news for owners of Fantasy assets playing for Brazil and Argentina is that their meeting on Tuesday, October 16 will take place in Saudi Arabia, meaning an earlier-than-usual finish time for the likes of Roberto Firmino (£9.4m), Alisson (£5.6m), Ederson (£5.7m), Richarlison (£6.8m), Lucas Moura (£7.4m) and Roberto Pereyra (£6.2m) and a shorter flight back to the UK.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.7m), Mohamed Salah (£12.8m), Sadio Mane (£9.9m), Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m) and Son Heung-min (£8.3m) are among the FPL players who are in action in Africa and Asia next Tuesday, meanwhile.

Sergio Aguero (£11.3m), Alexandre Lacazette (£9.6m), Aymeric Laporte (£5.7m) and Benjamin Mendy (£6.2m) are some of the more notable “uninjured” players who won’t feature for their respective national teams over the coming week.

Think I’d try to do ditch Kante or Neves first. How many ft’s and any money itb?

Just the 1 FT with 0.4 in the bank.

Could save the FT and go Kane >Aguero and upgrade Kante/Neves next GW?

Fraser, Mendy, Richarlison to cheapo, cheapo, Mane works?

Having doherty and Fraser on bench is waste

That makes no sens for me. Fraser, Mendy and Richarlison will most propably score more than Mane + cheapo & cheapo.

Wilson, Fraser have two more GWs.

Pool's fixtures are looking too good to ignore attackers

Is Laca's run going to continue, most of his points have come from very weak opposition - plus Arsenal just scraped through against Everton and Watford. Tougher games might result in these attacking returns deminishing.

Mitro has 5 gw's left so figure you need cash ITB in order to move for arnie

      Thoughts on which WC team;

      Fabianski, Button

      Alonso, Robertson, Doherty, Yedlin, AWB

      Hazard, Mane, Richarlison, Fraser, Hojbjerg

      Aguero, Lacazette, Arnautovic

      or

      Fabianski, Button

      Alonso, TAA, Doherty, Yedlin, AWB

      Hazard, Salah, Sterling, Knockaert, Hojberj

      Lacazette, King, Jiminez

      Pickford Stek
      Alonso Robbo Shaw Doherty WB
      Salah Hazard Rich Maddison Stephens
      Aguero Mitrovic Ings

Took a hit on Mane + Kane -> Hazard + Aguero cos no Hazard was killing me

Should I Wildcard? Or is it worth holding 1 more week to assess kdb and mendy, and Pool with easy fixtures ?

I’d give it at least 1 more gw to assess mendy and how well Salah plays against hud

        Good morning peeps!

        Which one would you do?
        A) Save
        B) Kepa > Ryan/Dubravka/Ederson (Avoid doubling on Chelsea defence)
        C) Zaha > Arnie/Mitro
        D) AWB > 5.4 DEF (Trent/Yedlin)

        Kepa,
        Alonso, Robbo, Doherty, AWB
        Salah, Hazard, Rich
        Aguero, King, Zaha

        Subs: Hamar, Billing, Stephens, Peltier

        Ederson Hamer
        Mendy Robbo TAA Doherty AWB/Bennett
        Hazard Sterling Rich Madd Hojbjerg
        Firmino Laca Wilson

Leaves 0.7 itb to upgrade Wilson to Arnie when fixtures wing.

I like it a lot. No alonso is my only concern - with 3 nice fixtures coming up. I'd be tempted to go mendy > alonso, as you already have city defensive cover in ederson.

Which player has been your worst pick so far this season and your one biggest regret?
For me Lowton has been my worst pick. Was expecting Burnley to be the usual but they have been so trash. Biggest regret is getting Cedric instead of Jonny or Doherty at the start of the season. Interested to hear others

Jota is my worst pick, owned him for 6 weeks, averaged 2.5ppm or something and rinsed 0.4 from my budget. Don't regret it though.

De Gea - for multiple reasons - mainly picked him at the start because I had a spare £1m to spend on keepers and thought United's fixtures were good enough to get at least 3/4 CS from the first few games (kept him on GW5-6 wildcard for this reason too). And he's tying up budget that would be far better used elsewhere.

Still stinking up the gaff in my side but he's toast very soon.

Honourable mentions for PVA, Sanchez & Eriksen.

Yes DDG has failed miserably. United fan here so was worried about all the noise about third season syndrome before the start of the season. Moved him after the Brighton debacle as I started to fear the worst. Sanchez never looked great to start off for me and Eriksen has also really disappointed virtually playing as a dm

Find it astonishing that your giving PVA an honourable mention. 36 points in 8 gameweeks. 5 "returns" (1g 1a 3cs). What more could be expected of a 5.5 defender playing for a non top-6 side? Hes averaged 4.5 points pr game this season. Not that I believe that he can keep it up, but that amounts to 170+ pts over a full season....

De Gea was such a bad investment at the start, and I lost all confidence in him after the Brighton debacle
Kept him until the end of GW4 so that I could wildcard him out, although I had already decided to let him go by then
And gave me some solace with a CS before buggering off

I did exactly the same. Sounded like a good punt for someone who could potentially get returns at both ends of the pitch. Hasn't worked out and now I'm out of cash to swap back to Mendy again.

Jota. But I shipped him after one week. My GW 1 team was a horrendous mess this year. Contributed to my early wildcard.

I had: Jota, Tosun, Gunnarsson, Peltier, Cairney, Bailly in at the start. *shudders*

Although I let myself off the hook a bit, because I didn't know whether I cared enough to play for real this season, but then my mates and work league pulled me in and now I'm here more than ever.

You got yourself into a bit of a tricky spot with all those picks. Jota was hyped though and I personally had lots of faith in tosun and cairney. Peltier was the AWB we thought we would have and Bailly should be Uniteds best defender so I see a lot of reasoning behind those choices though

I think my goalkeepers have probably been my worst picks and my biggest regret is not just getting Patricio and Hennessey on my wildcard because I didn’t want to double up on those defences, that has cost me a LOT of points!

Not giving Aguero the captaincy in GW2 or getting Hazard on my GW5 wildcard stung pretty badly too!

Just a couple - like you, I had Cedric at the start of the season when it was 50/50 between him and Holebas. I can't say I considered Jonny or Doherty then.

More recently, at the last international break I bought Pereyra when I really wanted Fraser, but was put off by the fact that Fraser apparently hadn't shaken off his knock by the time the press conferences came. Fraser outscored Pereyra 27-8 while the latter was in my team.

Bringing Kane (C) in last week due to fear of missing out. Pre-planned transfer was Bernardo Silva to Hazard (C). Bottled it and it cost me 27 points. A harsh lesson.

No majorly bad picks, although had a lot of blanks from Bernardo Silva until his haul in GW6.

Had Pereira for one week, but quickly swapped for Alonso so no real damage.

Cairney was pretty poor, but sat on the bench anyway.

Biggest regret is probably keeping Mane and Salah and only getting Hazard in last week. Should have swapped Mane to Hazard much sooner.

Getting Pedro on my GW 5 wildcard.
Lost 0.3M value on him because I stuck with him through his injury as I had other problems to sort out, and because I was convinced that Sarri preferred him to Willian.
Not only that but I decided to start him instead of Wilson this week since the fixture looked much easier on paper.
The annoying thing is that I could have got Maddison instead of Pedro back then, when they were near the same price.

I'm probably going to take my first hit of the season by next GW to get rid of Pedro for bench fodder so I can upgrade AWB to Robertson. Enough is enough. 🙂

Worst Pick: Starting the season for 3 weeks with Aubemayang over Aguero. 6 points instead of 24, and thats not even taking Captaincy into account. Also was a negative swing of 0.3 in TV between the 2 before I got Aguero in.

Biggest regret: Being a week late getting Hazard in and also missing his 20 pointer.

2 decisions which have cost me 40-80 points. Which is a shame as I feel my management of the rest of my squad has been pretty good. Its a cruel game sometimes!

My biggest regret was having Mendy and Robertson all pre season and then dumping them both the Thursday before the GW1 deadline.

My worst pick was Auba from the start who I dumped GW5.

                  Worst:
                  1) Mahrez GW1
Honorary Mention: Will Hughes, because he never came off my bench for the 5GWs I owned him, so I wasted money on him.

                  Biggest regrets are:
                  1) Captaining Alonso (2) instead of Hazard (20) in GW5
                  2) Selling Lacazette for Aguero in GW3
                  3) Benching Mendy (15) and AWB (12) in GW1

Biggest regret - putting Fraser second on the bench behind Jorginho in GW5 because of reports that his injury was more serious than it turned out, thus missing out on his 18 point haul. If I hadn't done that I would still be in the top thousand.

Worst pick - Holebas, who scored zero for me when I started him in GW5 ahead of AWB, whose 9 points remained on my bench.

In the opening team it was Sanchez (who became Richarlison in GW 3) Cairney and Aubameyang although at least he has left my team on a high in GW 8 with his 15 points cameo.

GW 7 I had the option between Knockaert and Gudmundsson and went for the former thinking long term even though I was going to play my wildcard in the international break. The difference between the two is about 16 points for the two GWs. Add that to not owning Aguero for his hattrick and not acting on the option to bring in Hazard before bournemouth. Totals to about 80 points which would have me near 50k rather than 1mn.

Not making the salah > hazard move has killed me. A gamble I shouldn't have taken. I've now done that move on WC

Pickford to start with was a horrific pick.

Keeper: DDG instead of...well, most teams.
Defenders: Definitely went for the wrong 4.5m options. Lost 0.2m on Kiko Femina, had Tomkins who did heehaw for me, and totally missed Wolves’ options.

Steve Cook. I wildcarded him into my squad in GW3 after he scored 6 and 14 points. His scores since have been 1, 1, 1, 0, 2, 6. I have played him in GWs 3-6 when he has posted his four lowest figures.

                  DDG - what a waste of £.

But last GW I benched 27points through Fraser, Bennett & Wilson.

Little did I know Augero has never scored agaisnt Liverpool at home and laid faith in Salah finding something and AWB keeping out the tremendous Wolves.

Worst Picks - Is started the season with GroB/KDB over Mane/Richarlson. I learnt my lesson and swapped the two of them to Hazard/Maddison by GW2. I seem to have nailed every transfer so far.

Biggest regret - Not going with Aguero as captain when he hauled.

Honestly dont feel like I've made to many mistakes this season. Could be moaning about selecting VVD over Rob, but thats just being on the wrong end of a difficult selection. My worst pick has to be Mkhi. He was just ticking to many boxes at that pricepoint, but ultimately commited the sin of picking a player with low assurances of starting.

Mahrez without a shadow of a doubt. I've whinged about him on here recently but I had him from GW1 - GW4 for a total of 5 points and a 0.3 value loss. Finally shipped him for Pedro before his 12 point haul. Pedro promptly got himself injured.

                  Worst pick - probably Mkhi
Biggest regret - that’s easy, taking the captaincy off Aguero 2 minutes before the deadline due to “Click Bait” Jackson’s tweet

Worst pick is Stephens as 5th mid, multiple 1 points hauls and now injured, luckily haven't needed 5th mid more than once yet. Biggest regret was removing Fraser for Neves when he was "injured" and not only played but hauled a massive 18 points

Worst pick: Townsend for GW1. Thankfully, able to trade up to Hazard for GW4.
Biggest regret: My ongoing inability to name the best bench and captain. I realize the amount of randomness and luck involved, but thru 8 GW's I've lost 62 points due to naming the wrong players to my bench and 40 points due to naming the wrong captain. If I could have cut those figures even in half, I could have improved my OR by 9K.

Damarai Gray didn't go well bit prioritising Alonso over Hazard in gameweek 5 was a nightmare. Missed out on 30 points and several price rises and haven't gained any extra points from having Alonso over David Luiz.

Did captain hazard last week so it's not all bad I guess.

Worst pick maybe foster.. been really happy with my team gw1 my team had a combined score of 133 points.. 34 of those on the bench!

Bavies from the start wasn't great, thought I was getting one over all Trippier pickers. Very bad decision in hindsight and lost 0.2. Not starting with rich/maddison and going for Mili instead. Luckily got rid before he dropped.

Couple of hours before the GW1 deadline. Pep announces KDB is fit. I decided to sell Mane for KDB who didn't play GW1 and became injured for GW2. If I had held tight, I would have been top 5k after a few weeks and would have been able to jump on the likes of Alonso much quicker than I did.

                  Worst pick:

Cairney as 5th mid. Totally against my normal template of a 4.5m 5th mid (unless 352). That half mil would have come in very handy

                  Biggest regret:

Never capping Hazard, even though I sold Mane to get Haz early in GW4. I had the confidence to get him early, but bottled the captaincy each time.

50/50 between De Gea and Ederson. Ended up with De Gea (still have him).
50/50 between Dunk and Duffy, ended up with Dunk (still have him).
50/50 between Zaha and Arnautovic, ended up with Zaha (still have him).

I did however go with Mendy and not Bailly, because i went with De Gea. That 50/50 decision might not have been that different.

However i'm really hesistant on selling De Gea because i was in a very similar situation a couple of years ago. I started with Courtois the first 10 gameweeks and he gave me only one or two clean sheets. I transferred him out for Cech (who had a lot of clean sheets up until GW10). From that moment on, Courtois went on a row of 5+ clean sheets. Cech conceded in every match.

Oh and I my biggest regret is selling Doherty after his own goal. He was dropping in price and playing Man City next so I figured it couldn't hurt. 5 GWs later...

Getting rid of Lucas Moura before his brace against Man U was also pretty painful as I brought in Richarlison for a hit and he repaid the faith with a red card.

So many of these responses fall into the "what you didn't do" category. It's easy to point out the players you should have bought after they have scored loads.

If you SOLD a player who went on to haul, that's a different matter

Would Kane out for Lacazette/Vardy make sense? (yes I just got him for the last 2 gameweeks)
Moura or Pedro out for Sigurdsson or keep?
                Bernardo Silva to De Bruyne?

Keeping for me. Worried about aguero still being subbed off at 60th min and City have two important games after so Pep might be eager to pull him off early but then again he could have had a hatty. Kane has a great record in London derbies, assured of 90 min and then the next week they play each other. I'd get aguero for kane gw11 as I'd been capping salah gw9 and gw 10

Anyone on wildcard now, are you considering KDB or having someone lined up as a placeholder?

Tempting to hold Mane and switch in a few games time once he's fit, but then its equally tempting to ditch Mane in favour of Salah as the sole Pool attacker.

Looks good, I prefer Mendy/Laporte over Trippier but I like the team. Mine will basically be the same with Aguero/Maddison over KDB Vardy. I'd much rather own Vardy over Maddison though.

Josh Murphy posting some half decent stats - out of all Midfielders who have started the last two gameweeks he's only behind Hazard, Salah & Moura for minutes per shot in the box.

'Minutes per chance' - only behind Pogba & Sigurdsson (again out of all MFs starting last two gameweeks).

8th for minutes per pen area touch, behind Sterling, Hazard, Moura, Salah, Son, Richarlison, Martial. (same criteria)

Obviously Cardiff are dreadful, but at 4.8 if he becomes any kind of talisman for them (might he be on pens?) that's gotta be worth a look.

Maybe a replacement for Fraser in GW11 for example as there's a big fixture swing there...

haha... yeah fair enough but that's bench enablers that you end up stuck with. Murphy looks like he actually has a shot at belonging at this level.

Admittedly the rest of his teammates could well render him useless.

Had him for gw1. Ok pick in principle but in retrospect was going differential for the sake of it. Probably still the case.

Yeah you're right - would enable a stronger DF / FW in a 3-5-2 than having Fraser as the 5th mid was what I meant (but phrased poorly)

I like to have at least 12 strong outfielders. AWB is one and Murphy could be another. It allows them to rotate with Doherty, Maddison, Jimenez etc when required. But I wouldn't play him often.

Josh Murphy might be having high minutes per shot in the box but don't let the stats fool you. A big reason for that was the Cardiff vs Burnley game where he has like 6 attempts on goal. Moreover, he's not a nailed on starter and Cardiff lack creativity altogether.
You could look at options like Brooks who is only 5.0. I bought him since GW 3 and he's been great so far and plays in a more attacking Bournemouth team.

yeah good points - Obviously the Burnley game does swing it statistically but they have a few games similar to that on the horizon, and his finish for the goal was absolutely class.

Brooks could be a better enabler though once these tough B'mouth games are done.

Bournemouth have some easy fixtures for now. Yeah they have a tough run of games coming up but you would still fancy them to score goals at home against any side with the quality they have. With a 5.0 mid, it's perfectly sensible to bench him in the tougher games.

Having said that, Murphy is still a good shout for GW 9 as it's a home match against Fulham. Cardiff would be desperate to win that so if you have him, you'd want to keep him.

Even Norwegian newspapers picked up the Scotsman's injury. Probably due to the fact that our national team's only scoring striker needs feedin' from Fraser in his BOU-life.

Who are people selling to bring in Mendy? I probably have to sell one of Robertson, Alonso or Doherty. Not keen on selling any until I know that Mendy is nailed

Don't sell those 3. If any, Alonso, but I'd just look elsewhere.

I went for Walker on WC as the replacement for him so probably not selling until I have literally no other issues in the team.

And I wouldn't sell any of those three either - but I'd be tempted to look at 4-at-the-back given how good City's defence is.

The backline of Mendy - Robertson - Alonso - Doherty - AWB looks like a potential (injury/form dependent) season keeper to me.

I think so. Look at which flank has most crosses conceded by Huddersfield and Cardiff.

Why do you keep pushing this? Huddersfield have conceded fewer crosses from the left flank- the opposite to Cardiff.

Yes. 100%. Liverpool fan here so watch all the matches and know the stats inside out as well. No competition. Robertson has been unlucky not to get more assists so far. Almost every match he creates a very good chance and a few half chances.
