Is it time to invest in defence of Season Ticker high-fliers Brighton?

Brighton and Hove Albion’s budget defensive options could attract some long-term Fantasy Premier League attention very soon.

The Seagulls recently recorded their first clean sheet of 2018/19 in Gameweek 8, which was well-timed with them ascending to second place for defence on our Season Ticker over the next 13 matches.

We’ve decided to look into the numbers to see if Chris Hughton’s men can be trusted with what, on the surface, looks like an extended run of favourable fixtures.

Whats the position of alonso in the last 4 gws? Is he advancing and taking shots like he used to? Fixtures has not be unkind in those weeks too.

Worth a WC or stay patient?
    Fab, Foster
    Trippier, Robertson, Tomkins, Doherty, WB
    Mane, Haz, Maddison, Walcott, Neves
    Aguero, Vardy, King

Feel with the fixture swing I should be shipping out my crystal boys and bringing in brighton and west ham players.

Most likely would do Trippier for Mendy if I was making the single change this week.

    Ok, decision point.

    Current team:

    Ryan
    TAA, Trippier, Doherty, Mendy
    Hazard, Salah, Moura
    Aguero, Wilson, Mitro

    Hamer, Maddison, AWB, Stephens
    0FT, 0.7 ITB

    Proposed WC team:

    Patricio
    Mendy, Alonso, Robertson, Doherty
    Hazard, Mane, Richarlison
    Wilson, Lacazette, Aguero

    Fabianski, Brooks, Højberg, AWB
    0.0 ITB
Is it worth pulling the trigger or is the team up top GTG?

Team on top is fine for at least two more weeks - I think you'll get at least 60-70 points out of that team (and don't believe the Salah injury BS - he is absolutely going to play next week). For GW10 you can swop Moura and Maddison. You will probably want to re-look the WC in GW11 to swop out the Bournemouth (eg Wilson to Arnie) and possibly Spurs players

Great bench options though generally, but wouldn’t want to rely on too many of the players from those teams in your staying 11

FPL Rule Change: so a few weeks ago someone asked the question about what change would you want to bring to see in FPL. So, this idea popped into my head last night while I was looking at how many points I've had on my bench in first 8 GW's: how about a rule where you have a choice to sacrifice your FT by being able to substitute one of your bench players for a starting player during the GW? In other words, each week you either get a free hit OR a free substitute... ?

    1. Fitzy.
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 12 Years
      5 years, 6 months ago

How would that work? You can't make any changes to your team after a GW starts, or are you suggesting that you make a decision prior to lockout that you'll sacrifice that week's FT for an automatic substitution from your bench?

Got to be honest, Fitzy - more thought given to the concept than to the mechanics of it. In my midn it was more a cse of at the end of the GW you could choose between making a free substitute on that GW's results OR choose to use a FT for the following GW. But the prior decision idea might also be really interesting...

Yeah, like your highest scoring bench player gets swapped for your lowest scoring starter.

Exactly - but then you don't get a FT for that week. The free substitute looks backwards at the GW that has just completed and FT looks forward at the coming GW. Decisions, decisions.... 🙂

Nice one. In my Dutch Fantasy League we have something that's called the Pinchhitter: whenever a player comes off the bench and scores/assists, he gets double the points.

Kinda like that one, being nailed makes this a bit less important.

That's a neat concept - it would make players like Sturridge and most the ManCity mids more appealing and interesting!

probably any chip is a bad rule, if we are trying to be the best managing.

That would be a decision post match, surely? The game is entirely predictive with no retrospective aspects so I cannot see that being allowed.

      1. The 5% Team
        • 5 Years
        5 years, 6 months ago

well, the pinchhitter is not a chip.

For example, if you had Ramsey in your starting XI in the Fulham match, he would have got you 10 x 2 = 20 points, because he came off the bench. If he was on your fantasy bench, you got no points of course.

So you have to make the decision before the games: start a player who plays 90 mins, or start a player who might come off the bench and maybe gives you double points.

Exactly my point - at the moment the entire mechanics are predictive, in the absence of perfect information about team selection, injuries etc. etc. Introducing a retroactive game mechanic, albeit one that forces your to sacrifice a forward looking opportunity might be interesting?

True - it would certainly spice life up with the double points aspect but I still doubt whether they'll wear it. Interesting idea , but let's see if the FPL Ivory Towers adopt it.
