We have begun our update of the Watchlist ready for Gameweek 9.

Up first is the goalkeepers after we ran the rule over the best Fantasy Premier League options between the sticks.

Read ahead to find out how we’ve ranked each asset.

Alisson (£5.6m) remains top of the Watchlist for goalkeepers but has consolidated his position there. The Liverpool man’s latest clean sheet brings his form back to A, with only three shot-stoppers ranking higher than him in that department on the official FPL website. Alisson also gets the Favourable Fixtures back with Huddersfield (away), Cardiff (home), Arsenal (away) and Fulham (home) his next four matches.

Ederson‘s (£5.7m) factors remain the same, A for form and no fixture aspect, so he stays in second place. Two home fixtures against Burnley and Southampton appear to have excellent clean sheet potential but they sit next to a trip to Spurs and the visit of Manchester United.

Another shutout and bonus-haul for Rui Patricio (£4.6m) in Gameweek 8 justified our decision to put him third on the Watchlist several weeks ago. The Wolves man obviously retains his A for form, has appealing fixtures and is still a bargain at £4.6 so he stays where he is.

Kepa (£5.5m) comes back onto the goalkeeper Watchlist in fourth place following the recent drop in Marcos Alonso‘s (£7.0m) attacking numbers. We had taken the decision to remove the Chelsea shot-stopper because Alonso was offering potential at both ends of the pitch, and when we weren’t so sure about Chelsea keeping clean sheets, we did not want to hugely encourage a defensive double-up. However, if Alonso is regressing offensively, and Maurizio Sarri’s men are looking solid at the back, then Kepa deserves to be an option once again as he can offer the same level of defensive potential for a much cheaper price.

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) rises up the rankings a little as Leicester’s fixtures look very promising after Gameweek 9. Furthermore, they have ranked very favourably for shots conceded, efforts on target allowed and big chances conceded over the last four Gameweeks, all of which can be seen in the Members’ Area.

Bernd Leno (£4.8m) retains the Favourable Fixtures for a little longer which is why he is still sixth in the list. Once a home match with Leicester and a trip to Crystal Palace are out of the way, Arsenal face tough matches against Liverpool, Spurs and Man United between Gameweek 11 and 15.

Likely to overtake the German very soon, and hot on his tails, is Brighton shot-stopper Mat Ryan (£4.5m). His first clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 8, plus some bonus too, was timed well with the Seagulls’ fixture swing and has seen his form rise from C to B. Between now and Gameweek 21 on our Season Ticker, they rank second for defence.

Ben Foster (£4.5m) returns to the Watchlist now that Watford’s fixtures have perked back up again. The schedule is favourable for the Hornets with Huddersfield, Newcastle and Southampton three of their next four opponents. Foster comes in with a C for form with no clean sheet since Gameweek 1, however.

Just below him is Newcastle’s custodian Martin Dubravka (£5.0m). The Magpies may have allowed a considerable number of shots over the past four Gameweeks but the quality of their fixtures cannot be overlooked. Brighton (home), Southampton (away) and Watford (home) are their next three opponents.

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) gets onto the list for his ability to cover Rui Patricio’s tougher fixtures in Gamweeks 11 and 12. That’s when Wolves face Spurs and Arsenal while West Ham play Burnley and Huddersfield.

Not surprisingly, Wayne Hennessey (£4.6m) has now dropped off the Watchlist. Crystal Palace’s awful quadruple-hit of tough fixtures is now just one week away. Between Gameweeks 10 and 13, the Eagles must run the gauntlet of Arsenal (home), Chelsea (away), Spurs (home) and Man United (away).

Joe Hart (£4.6m) has also been pushed off the Watchlist after failing to keep it Cardiff or Huddersfield. Furthermore, it’s Man City (away) and Chelsea (home) up next for the Clarets.

A fit Salah would be majestic, his ownership is only ~ 20% in the top 10k

Given the situation with injuries and Sterling's performances, I doubt Salah would be bought en masse anyway.

I agree. But I think it will finish nearer 35-40%. Still a key differential given the fixture.

A fit Salah who also doesn't underperform. That differential could easily be a rank killer if he does.

You can own him and not captain him but not owning him at all is very dangerous.

But you have already missed out on the points. You will just mirror the rest who bring him in late. I got Kane's haul against Hudds by acting early. He might not explode against Hudds. But I would be very surprised if he doesn't explode in one of those 3 games.

Anyone that has more wisely invested up to now by fielding a player with the same score for half the price and invested the rest in form players is already out of sight

Salah hitting 15 points isn't going to make up for that. Not when their Salah replacement has every chance of hitting a score that halves that gain

              It's a folly.

You managed that despite the enormous drag factor of investing in a 13m player performing at 6.5m level

                  You could be much higher

Everyone "could" be higher if they owned exactly the right players at the right times. It's impossible in reality to do that though. The question is could we have found better reasons, at the time, to get the best performing players in. The answer is very often no.

There's plenty of good reasons to not buy Salah or even keep Salah this week. There's already been a. 5 swing in the Sterling/Salah price range.

Nobody seems to be providing balance to the view.

It's like managers are hypnotised. You just don't need to own a 12.8m flop. Just wait till he hits form and then get him in. He's not Harry Kane, he won't hit 24 then blank the next 3 games

His ownership is falling so there's no hypnotism involved. He has blanked against Spurs, Chelsea and City but he has returned against the lesser teams, only blanking against Leicester City. You are pretty much repeating the same things over and over

The game is played on single game week resolution. A manager can respond to any change in 1-2 game weeks.

It's a combination of a short and long sided game

There's a miriad of reasons why I felt Kane was essential for that, and which I feel don't count for Salah, which I've detailed more than once.

Further to that we now see that Kun, Sterling and Hazard are the three in form, big hitting, captain options. Salah can't currently compete with that at 12.8. He needs double figures returns or no blanks to do so. I can wait for that

Maybe about 2.5 more than he's currently getting. Thing is, at 12.8 you pretty much gotta be a nailed captain at least half the time. And currently he has two mode scores, 2 and 8. Who wants to captain a player who currently scores 2 as often as 8

          Completely agree.

Owned Salah since GW1 and have regretted every minute.

Will downgrade him to someone at 9-11m and use the funds to upgrade a striker.

It’s very easy to work out if a player offers value per million. And currently Salah doesn’t.

I am preparing myself for returns in the coming weeks, I think it's inevitable. Just wasn't prepared to let the will he/won't he (be worth it) drag on any longer.

Fully plan to go into the next three games with Kun, Sterling, Mendy and Hazard. That's either not possible with Salah or the rest of the team is junk

Of course. Scrutinizing all the available angles leads me to think the next two games are far better suited to further observation than investment. I'll be much happier learning more first if Salah does hit 16 than I will be bringing him in only for a 2-8 pointer against an apparently terrible team.

      Yeah I'm on board.

If he's confirmed fit I'm going to get him. I honestly think if he even gets close to last season's points, he's underpriced at 13m. Back in my first seasons playing FPL, we had Henry who cost 14m and he never scored that many points in a season. Henry was also classfied as a forward whereas Salah is a mid (who's effectively a forward).

I've been out of action for a few weeks (new baby!), so my team is a bit of a state and my squad value is horrific. Thinking of shipping PVA due to fixture shift. Jota obviously needs to go. Long term I'd like to shift funds out of defence.

    Discussion: Long-term city choices?

Sterling, Mendy, Aguero to me seem the first choices, can see Kun being rotated more this season with Jesus coming in. Sterling to me will be playing almost every match with his current form both for club and country, pep seems to like him. And Mendy is just brilliant so can't see him going anywhere apart from the occasional rest with CL.

Anyone else you guys have been thinking of?

Very tempted to swap Kun out for Sterling.

Mendy and one of KdB/Sterling. Unsure whether Agüero will continue being hauled of at 60-70 mins with just an assist and occasional goal. Walker over Mendy also an option if Mendy benhed too much.

A - Richarlison, Knockaert, Doherty and Robertson

    or

B - Mane, 4.5 Mid, Bennett and TAA

    ??

Option B is to accommodate Mane with Liverpools upcoming fixtures.

    B)

Have 2 free transfers and 1.4 m in bank. Still got WC. Was going to go BSilva to Salah and Kane to Wilson/Arnie but think will wait a week. May as well use 1 free transfer. What move would you make?

    A Trippier to Mendy
    B Trippier to Robertson
    C Tomkins to TAA
D Take a punt for this week on BSilva or Fraser to Shaqiri
    E Any better suggestion?

    Trippier Doherty Alonso
    Hazard BSilva Richarlison Fraser
    Aguero Kane Mitrovic

Have been mostly off the grid since the last GW. The Internationals don't much interest me these days.
Between being Scottish and having to endure any campaign we are involved in... trying to make sense of what the hell this UEFA Nations League nonsense is... and the SFA picking Belgium and Portugal to give us a roasting in Friendlies.

Looking at my team though through rested eyes... only Salah and Fraser flagged. I assume both likely to be ok.
I actually don't have a clue what to do with my team but feel like it needs a bit of work.
Considered Salah and Arnie > Mane and Laca but fixtures keep telling me to hold on.
When is the breaking point for Salah. Have most of you shipped yet?
