We have begun our update of the Watchlist ready for Gameweek 9.

Up first is the goalkeepers after we ran the rule over the best Fantasy Premier League options between the sticks.

Read ahead to find out how we’ve ranked each asset.

Alisson (£5.6m) remains top of the Watchlist for goalkeepers but has consolidated his position there. The Liverpool man’s latest clean sheet brings his form back to A, with only three shot-stoppers ranking higher than him in that department on the official FPL website. Alisson also gets the Favourable Fixtures back with Huddersfield (away), Cardiff (home), Arsenal (away) and Fulham (home) his next four matches.

Ederson‘s (£5.7m) factors remain the same, A for form and no fixture aspect, so he stays in second place. Two home fixtures against Burnley and Southampton appear to have excellent clean sheet potential but they sit next to a trip to Spurs and the visit of Manchester United.

Another shutout and bonus-haul for Rui Patricio (£4.6m) in Gameweek 8 justified our decision to put him third on the Watchlist several weeks ago. The Wolves man obviously retains his A for form, has appealing fixtures and is still a bargain at £4.6 so he stays where he is.

Kepa (£5.5m) comes back onto the goalkeeper Watchlist in fourth place following the recent drop in Marcos Alonso‘s (£7.0m) attacking numbers. We had taken the decision to remove the Chelsea shot-stopper because Alonso was offering potential at both ends of the pitch, and when we weren’t so sure about Chelsea keeping clean sheets, we did not want to hugely encourage a defensive double-up. However, if Alonso is regressing offensively, and Maurizio Sarri’s men are looking solid at the back, then Kepa deserves to be an option once again as he can offer the same level of defensive potential for a much cheaper price.

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) rises up the rankings a little as Leicester’s fixtures look very promising after Gameweek 9. Furthermore, they have ranked very favourably for shots conceded, efforts on target allowed and big chances conceded over the last four Gameweeks, all of which can be seen in the Members’ Area.

Bernd Leno (£4.8m) retains the Favourable Fixtures for a little longer which is why he is still sixth in the list. Once a home match with Leicester and a trip to Crystal Palace are out of the way, Arsenal face tough matches against Liverpool, Spurs and Man United between Gameweek 11 and 15.

Likely to overtake the German very soon, and hot on his tails, is Brighton shot-stopper Mat Ryan (£4.5m). His first clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 8, plus some bonus too, was timed well with the Seagulls’ fixture swing and has seen his form rise from C to B. Between now and Gameweek 21 on our Season Ticker, they rank second for defence.

Ben Foster (£4.5m) returns to the Watchlist now that Watford’s fixtures have perked back up again. The schedule is favourable for the Hornets with Huddersfield, Newcastle and Southampton three of their next four opponents. Foster comes in with a C for form with no clean sheet since Gameweek 1, however.

Just below him is Newcastle’s custodian Martin Dubravka (£5.0m). The Magpies may have allowed a considerable number of shots over the past four Gameweeks but the quality of their fixtures cannot be overlooked. Brighton (home), Southampton (away) and Watford (home) are their next three opponents.

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) gets onto the list for his ability to cover Rui Patricio’s tougher fixtures in Gamweeks 11 and 12. That’s when Wolves face Spurs and Arsenal while West Ham play Burnley and Huddersfield.

Not surprisingly, Wayne Hennessey (£4.6m) has now dropped off the Watchlist. Crystal Palace’s awful quadruple-hit of tough fixtures is now just one week away. Between Gameweeks 10 and 13, the Eagles must run the gauntlet of Arsenal (home), Chelsea (away), Spurs (home) and Man United (away).

Joe Hart (£4.6m) has also been pushed off the Watchlist after failing to keep it Cardiff or Huddersfield. Furthermore, it’s Man City (away) and Chelsea (home) up next for the Clarets.

I'M certain mitrovic will let managers down big time. away to Cardiff and Huddersfield may look like easy games but both sides will know that if they can prevent fulham from scoring they have a good chance. Mitrovic more likely to score against Bournemouth as they'll play more open

          Bottomed:
Bit of a pickle, what do you prefer:

          1) Play S.Cook (SOU), save FT
          2) Play Pereyra (dont ask), (wol), save FT
          3) Pereyra>>Maddison, play Maddison or S.Cook
          4) S.Cook>>Doherty, play Doherty (WAT)

I'm leaning towards playing Cook at home this week and rolling the FT until next week, sensible?

No, it would turn it into a social media site, and would possibly create cliques of groups between members by only involving a select few rather than the whole community.

Agreed also that people would get bogged down with email notifications - you only need to look at some people's activity on here and it would get ridiculous if every comment was tagged towards a certain individual.

                      That's a WC team?

No Liverpool is beyond silly. Get at least 2 defenders and at least 1 mid.

At least 2 defenders and at least 1 mid? That doesn't leave much room for many more.

I currently have Robertson so could leave him in place, then swap Maguire for Laporte - job done!

I think one defender each from LIV and MCI covers the main options nicely.

Ramsey is one to watch though, if Arsenal hit their stride he is usually one of the players at the heart of things - although I heard the talks about his contract at the moment are faltering and he is not a guaranteed starter.

I don’t belive so. He can’t return attacking points every game. He has more attacking returns than Arnie who’s a striker lots of people are trying to get in very soon.

Yes the stats say his attacking stats have dropped but Alonso often scores in bursts, and you need to hold him longer term to benefit. Chelsea have good fixtures coming up so clean sheets will be likely too.

Are Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures, for defensive returns, as good as people are suggesting? So many people on here are either doubling up on their defence or want to find a way to double up.

Their next 6 fixtures are as follows:

                              Huddersfield away.
Looks like a banker of a clean sheet. Most weeks Huddersfield wouldn’t score if the goal posts were as wide as each corner flag.

                              Cardiff at home.
                              Again another banker.

                              Arsenal away.
As poor as Arsenal are, they do score goals. Especially at home. I wouldn’t imagine there will be many times this season a team walks away from the Emirates with a clean sheet.

                              Fulham at home.
It’s a home win banker but is it a home win to nil? Fulham aren’t doing great this season at all, but they do score goals.

                              Watford away.
Watford are a different beast on their home turf. Yes they can have blips ‘ala Bournemouth’ but in most cases they really turn it on, especially against the big teams at Vicarage road.

                              Everton at home.
Cliche - but it’s a Derby, anything can happen. Everton aren’t in great shape but they are an attacking team.

Liverpool’s defence is up there with the best this season, if not the best. They highlighted how strong they are by keeping a clean sheet against Man City in their last game. But if you ignore the colours on the fixture ticker for a second and think a little bit more about their upcoming fixtures, I don’t see the big need for a double up. Even one Pool defender isn’t essential. They could easily let a goal in 3 or 4 of their next 6 fixtures regardless of wether they win them or not. Of course they could also get say 4 clean sheets and bring a good return, but I don’t see that being such a banker as what it seems a lot of people on here feel.

Look at price of Robbo + TAA vs what they're worth in each game. A double up is certainly viable IMO, but you don't lose anything by avoiding.

Yeah I don’t want to put people off at all, they are both great options. It just seems very overhyped on here for everyone to have Liverpool defensive cover. They are great options, but not essential.

The thing is, Liverpool have good value defenders along with highest chance of clean sheets in the next 5. Both Gomez and TAA represent significant value at 5-5.5m price compared to other options (save Doherty).

Only City have arguably as good fixtures/strength in defense but their options are basically limited to Mendy + Laporte.

Valid point re: clean sheets. I believe the thought is that those fixtures are also kind for attacking returns. TAA or Robertson could pile up points.

There's more precedent on liverpool defensive form rather than liverpool attacking form at the moment - in a way the defence has form and fixtures and that's fpl gold until proven wrong.

If they start leaking, then one of the two can be shipped but if it's TAA and Robbo, they could well get attacking returns also

Fair enough, but considering most would double up with Robbo + TAA you fail to mention

                                - TAA is only 5.1, so can't be compared to Meny/Alonso/Tripps, rather to Chilwell/Digne and the like.
                                - Both offer good attacking and baps potential as defenders go
                                - Ofc, going with both rules out doubling up in attack

I didn’t mention any comparisons, I was focusing on Liverpool’s cleansheet chances only.

I appreciate Robertson and TAA (if he’s still a regular) have good attacking threat. But because of VVD’s price and TAA’s possible rest threat people are looking at Lovren, Gomez and Alisson who offer little to no attacking threat so clean sheets are the main focus.

Naturally i'm 0.1 short to just do Mane > Sterling.

KDB likely to be an option? he always seems such a streaky player to have, 2/3 point returns with the odd explosion.
