Eden Hazard (£11.4m) will be the Fantasy Premier League focal point as Chelsea get Gameweek 9 started this lunch-time.

He comes into the Blues’ meeting with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge as the second-most owned asset in FPL, behind only Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) with 51.0% backing.

Fantasy managers will also be hoping for a clean sheet with Marcos Alonso (£7.0m) still in 45.9% of squads.

Investment in Manchester United has waned in recent weeks with their most popular option David De Gea (£5.8m). He remains owned by 18% despite going four Gameweeks without a clean sheet.

Their most fashionable outfield option is Paul Pogba (£8.1) with 13.9% backing. Interestingly, the Frenchman has been tipped by  Joe’s famed Goals Imminent table.

On the injury front, both Antonio Rudiger (£5.9m) and Mateo Kovacic (£5.9m) came through doubts over their fitness while Ross Barkley (£5.7m) was named on the bench.

Luke Shaw (£5.1m) overcame his knock to start for Man United.

CHELSEA XI (4-3-3): Kepa, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, David Luiz, Alonso, Jorginho, Kante, Kovacic, Willian, Hazard, Morata.

MAN UNITED XI (4-3-3): De Gea, Young, Lindelof, Smalling, Shaw, Matic, Pogba, Mata, Rashford, Martial, Lukaku.

Unrelated but I've always wondered why commentators use the word 'cynical' when describing a bad foul. When you look at the dictionary definition of cynical it doesn't look like an appropriate word to use to describe a bad foul in football.

        Meanwhile on with the footy.

I think cynical means doing unethical things for your own benefit, which matches what the commentators are trying to say

      “Concerned only with one’s interests”

I think that fits. If it’s in his team’s interests for a player to commit a foul rather than let play go on, that is an apt description.

      1. gooberman
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 14 Years

I guess so. I thought cynical was mainly having a negative suspicious view of things. Still think there are much more appropriate words that would fit better.

    5. Fred54
      • 11 Years
      7 years, 6 months ago

One of the meanings of cynical explores the idea of whether something is worthwhile. I guess this applies because if the foul had not been committed does it mean a goal would have still been scored?

      Was the foul worthwhile?

      They're commentators.
What the hell does "Early doors" mean?
I man falls over his words not knowing what to say but knowing he should say something and every halfwit in football now uses it to mean early in the game.

      1. Fred54
        • 11 Years
        7 years, 6 months ago

Alot of the lexicon has sound reasoning, it's just that they become cliches and become detached from origin and take on a life of it own.

        'Early Door
When English pubs closed in the afternoon, customers who were waiting or arrived soon after the pub re-opened in the evening were known as 'early doors'.

I don't like them using pressurising instead of pressuring. It just makes me think of gas in a canister. It's not technically wrong, it just sounds a bit naff to me.
