Squads among the top 10,000 bracket of Fantasy Premier League managers changed a little for Gameweek 9.

The international break triggered 4.4% of Wildcards at that level of the overall rankings. This was more than double the figure from any of the previous three Gameweeks.

In this article, we will highlight the differences between the choices made by Wildcarders and the rest of managers, also discussing the effect of injury news during the break.

As expected, the Wildcard chip is the only one that has significant usage this week.

This leads to a cumulative percentage of managers in the top 10k who already used the chip to 73.7%, a number that is particularly high considering we are only almost half-way through the first Wildcard usage window.

The overall cumulative percentage of Wildcarders is much lower, 35.4% and we could see significant changes in the top10k fabric if the Wildcards that are to be used in the next few weeks make a big difference.

Most Popular Players

Next, we look at the most common picks of the Gameweek 9 Wildcards vs the total picks of the top 10k.

Most of the Wildcard picks actually explain themselves. The two cheap goalkeepers Rui Patricio and Lukasz Fabianski dominate the Wildcards selection.

In defense, the interest in the in-form Matt Doherty and the returning  Benjamin Mendy is the main focus point. While they are in 72.4%, 69.2% of Wildcard teams respectively, their ownership in the top 10k reside at just 50.4% and 26.1%.

Meanwhile, it seems like Marcos Alonso and Kieran Trippier are the main fall guys.

On the other hand, midfield and attack options look very similar. The only exception is the shy appearance  of Raheem Sterling in 39% of Wildcards while it was Ryan Fraser’s position in the rest of the top 10k.

Speaking of which, the Bournemouth man, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were the most popular picks that had injuries over the international break.

While Fraser had 42.6% top 10k ownership last week, the number only slightly dropped to 41.8% indicating that only 0.8% managers decided to sell him this week based on his injury concerns.

However, not all who kept him actually had him in the starting XI.

In fact, Fraser’s percentage in started top 10k teams is only 33.85% meaning that around 8% of managers have him on the bench this week.

Meanwhile, Salah and Mane switched places again for top 10k ownership. Salah now leads with 34.1% as opposed to 31.4% for Mane. The Egyptian has an even higher effective ownership since 6.7% of top 10k managers actually gave him the armband this week.

The other top captaincy choices this week are the very popular option of Sergio Aguero (67.2%) and Eden Hazard (7.2%). Other differential captains were Sterling (5.97%), Harry Kane (4.28%) and Alexandre Lacazette (3.5%).

It looks like so far this season, most of the obvious captaincy choices delivered and Aguero continued this pattern today.

Also, as the most owned players in the top 10k have been more or less the same the past few weeks, it can still be hard to beat the template with differential picks or captains. But this could all change.

What’s the thoughts on my wildcard team, where would people recommend changes?

    Ryan, Button

    Robertson, mendy, chillwell, Bennett, wan-bisaka

    Salah, hazard, Maddison, Schurrle, Kennedy

    Aguero, mitro, Arnie

Would like to make room for vardy but is it worth swapping Maddison to cheap mid for this?

Also Fulham double up only for next few but who else would be good long term in schurrle spot?

I think it looks really good. Personally I would want Alonso in for Chilwell and I would fund it by Mitrovic->Jiménez/Ings as Fulham double up seems a lot anyways. If you then need further funds maybe do Kennedy to someone cheaper. Looks good though, your team!

Cheers for the feedback. I did have Alonso but fancy chilwell to do well with Leicester run and frees up funds for 3 decent strikers. I’m guessing people don’t think vardy is needed with Maddison in then?

Alonso out could burn you. He was very attacking yesterday, especially in the first half, and that was against a top half team.

    #Patch #Prediction

I am sounding the klaxon for the migration away from cheap forwards.

I am just as guilty here and also stocked up heavily in the back defence.

Time for kids to go even cheaper and forwards to beef up.

This is coming from someone with a 3K OR

          Vardy, Laca...

Midfield I would recommend Kenedy, it's no coincidence o have been banging on about him for so long

Scored a goal last week and made the cross bar vibrate

          He is due

Lacazette's form may be about to come to an end with his fixtures turning. No matter how good he is, if the defence collapses he will get less points. And whilst I love Vardy, he doesn't score enough FPL points to justify formation change.

Gray is expected back soon and when he is, Iheanacho is back to being a huge rotation risk.

Am a Leicester fan. If Gray replaces anyone in our current lineup, it is Amartey or Pereira, not Nacho. Nacho has finally made Vardy less isolated up front. I would be surprised to see Gray come in for him.

Just have to suck it up I guess! I have no other cash cows left. Would have to play WB or double Wolves. Still have my wildcard and I don't fancy PvA for the next four anyway so I can't see it being a prob it's just if someone else gets tonked!

          Hello,
I'm on WC, can you help me please:
          A) Salah and Giroud

          D) De bruyne and Firminio + 1.7 ITB (could be used for keepers)
          E) D. Silva and Aguerro + 0.9 ITB (could be used for keepers)

          Team:
          Foster - (Button)
          Alonso-Mendy-Robertson-Tripier - (Wan B)
          ?-Mane-Richarl - (Fraser, Kayal)

I have had Aguerro since GW3 but I'm bored of the 60 min. per game and think Jesus will sart some matches as well sooner or later.
If I upgrate keeper it will be for Fabianski or Ryan indeed but the next 3 GW of Foster are as easy as you get.

Why do so few have D. Silva on here? Seems like a bit of a casual pick but not valued by the "pros". A great player, could have hauled even more yesterday if Kun didnt play like a donkey.

Im loving him right now, Pep really rates him, clearly part of the first 11. Of course hes a rotation risk, but not more so than Sterling, Sane etc, and hes cheaper than them.

He's been in my team for a while now but this may be his last week. 26pts in last 4 starts... not too shabby.

Rotation risk greater now that KDB is back. Think there were Pep comments at beginning of season that DSilva would be used more sparingly this year due to age and promoting Bernardo.

Obviously a great player but the Man City midfield is such a minefield this year.

Im not so sure that hes affected by KDB. They dont play the same position. I believe Bernardo is the one who is at greater risk because he has been playing that deep controlling midfielder position. D Silva plays more forward than KDB.

Im 100% sure he starts against Spurs next week.

Pep has been known to happily play KDB deeper. Who knows how he might try to get Spurs to second guess him next week in terms of lineup. D. Silva is just a little too rotation prone for my liking if this year so far is anything to go by.

That is pretty sure. I'm the same as hairybaby. Had him for a few weeks, but losing now to squeeze Salah back in. Can't afford him and Kun and Haz in team, Other cheaper mids performing and although I think he is a key player, he will get rotated. With Mahrez now playing well BSilva will likely get rotated to relieve him and DSilva. Can see DSilva missing every third or fourth game.

Let Richarlison play first, and then consider whether you really want to get rid of him and Aguero for a hit.

Any Chelsea fans got a perspective on Alonso's attacking role and how durable it is? He was leaving huge gaps in the left back position yesterday, most managers wouldn't stand for it.

I know this was a talking point at the start of the season but his output did decline after GW4 and he looked way more attacking yesterday but Chelsea looked particularly vulnerable at the back.

Hazard dropped back a bit, so perhaps it depends on their tactics for the specific match?

I am very surprised that Sarri is putting up with that from Alonso and like you say he played right into United's hands.

The fact that Alonso offers a great threat from free kicks with that left foot of his is the only thing that is keeping him nailed in the first team for now.

I'm assuming he's not even on free kicks any more. Haven't seen him take one in ages. But I'd be happy if you could convince me otherwise as it factors into my thinking too

Is Trippier > Chilwell a good move?

Planning to roll my FT this week and use it in GW11 for Sterling + TAA to KDB + Mendy. An improvement for sure?

I guess a lot of people made Mane to Sterling for a hit for this GW...

My question is dobwe stay now with our choice or kneejerk and get Salah?

Sterling has Spurs A Shampton H United H
Salah has Cardiff H Arsenal A Fulham H

For now I think to stay with Raheem and take Salah for the home game vs Fulham.

                      Thoughts?

Salah for a hit. Next week, back to Sterling.

I hope Alonso and Mendy stay put on their price for just a GW ... Need some more time to decide to stick with Laporte or not

Good chance Mendy rises next week, I imagine Alonso to Mendy will be popular. I'm probably keeping Laporte another week but we'll see. 6.4 wouldn't be a disaster by any means.
