Mohamed Salah has become the Fantasy Premier League flavour of the month once again ahead of Liverpool’s Gameweek 10 meeting with Cardiff.

The Egyptian is currently the favourite for the latest captaincy debate and has a strong case for the armband.

With Manchester City tied up in an away trip to Spurs the most viable alternative this week looks like Eden Hazard, if he can shake off a back injury.

We’ve had a look at all the different angles to pick out the best candidate.

Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) is the current leader of our captain poll by a considerable distance. The Egyptian is preparing to welcome Cardiff city to Anfield in Gameweek 10 on the back of a seeming return to form.

At the time of writing, just under 48% of our voters backed Salah and will have been pleased to see him scoring three goals in the space of a week as his strikes helped dispatch Huddersfield and Red Star Belgrade. The Liverpool man has also confirmed his position in the penalty pecking order too.

Despite issues with his back in the last few days, Eden Hazard (£11.4m) has a strong hold on second position in our poll. Chelsea are preparing to face a Burnley outfit that has given up more shots than any other Premier League side this season.

Hazard is still a long way off the leader though, his 18% backing under half of Salah’s.

For the first time since Manchester City’s Gameweek 8 trip to Anfield, Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) has not troubled the top of the pile. That may be to do with the fact that a trip to Spurs is considered a tricky fixture, at least on paper. In fact, as things stand, more of our voters are interested in Sadio Mané (£9.7m).

The Senegalese international, fresh from a starring performance against Belgrade, has 7% of the votes while Aguero has just a 3.5% share.

Interestingly, Andrew Robertson (£6.4m) could easily overtake the illustrious Man City forward before the Gameweek 10 deadline with his backing currently at 3.3%. The Scottish full-back looks likely to record a clean sheet at least against Cardiff and there will be the usual hope for attacking returns too.

The combination of a surprise Gameweek 9 benching and a theoretical tough fixture against Spurs has pushed Raheem Sterling (£11.2m) a considerable distance down the list this week, chosen by just 0.59% of voters. Thus far, 15 options have been considered superior captain picks including Bournemouth trio Callum Wilson (2%), Josh King (0.71%) and Ryan Fraser (0.77%) as well as Aleksandar Mitrovic (1.48%) and Raúl Jiménez (1.33%).

Arsenal’s goal-getters remain among the differential captaincy candidates as they travel to Crystal Palace. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.8m) has gone back above Alexandre Lacazette (£9.7m) after his Gameweek 9 brace. The two forwards currently have 2.03% and 1.79% backing respectively. Mesut Ozil (£8.4m) is another option considered more popular than Sterling this week with a 0.83% share.

I’d love to own Lacazette at the moment. Those moves don’t sit well with me even though they could work out. Next week you’d want Sterling again.

You’ve only had Sterling one wee. Why get rid already?

You wildcarded last week with no Liverpool attack, why suddenly scramble to get them with a hit?

I think you made the decision that you didn’t think Salah was right last week by not including it. I’d stick to your original plan rather than jerking him in over a brace against Red Star.

Taking a hit to lose two great options in Laca and Sterling is very likely to backfire.

Sooooo ... should I keep or sell Leno? Got him 2 weeks ago instead of Ryan/Patricio and it looks like another poor decision of this season.

I don't see Arsenal keeping a clean sheet against Liverpool but there's a higher possibility against Palace, Wolves and Bournemouth.

Apart from the worry of game time, why is there not more hype for Shaqiri?

    Playing for LFC
    7m
Playing that Coutinho role behind the front 3 very well (Stats back it up).
    Great fixtures

The 'coutinho' role above is one that Klopp played with Ox and he was class in it, it's one lallana can play too but he doesn't look fit. Henderson / Keita injured which means only Wij Milner and Fabinho are fit - I reckon he starts with 2 of them (probably Wij and Milner).

Shaq will start Cardiff and Fulham at home which in theory look like great fixtures - If your bench can cope with the arsenal game in between then he's a great shout imo.

not guaranteed he will play against Cardiff and Fulham

      1. Gegenpress
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

I'm basically 100% sure he'll play Cardiff, Fulham closer to the time.

Klopp won't play 3 out and out CMs in the easy games where he expects teams to sit back.. He did this last season too (He'd play Ox with the front 3 in games where teams sat back). In the tougher games against the top clubs he likes 3 CMs to help control and dominate the midfield.

Another thing to look at is that if Trent doesn't play then Shaq will also be taking most of the set pieces.

"Shaq will start against Cardiff and Fulham" - Klopp is that you?

      1. Gegenpress
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

Now with Shaq as an option, I'm fairly certain in the 'easier games' Klopp will only start 2 out and out CMs with Shaq to try unlock teams that sit back.

It was evident he did this last season with Ox, he also praised the system and called Shaq a 'genius' post the midweek game.

Shaq was having a quality game - why do you think he got taken off as first sub, he's resting him for Cardiff.

I'm seeing this same exact line this week as well. he has look great his past two starts in all comps and klopp has been gushing about the little "genius". Sneaky play to keep his starting role. Might be rotated but that is always a risk with most Man city and liverpool mids.I like his next three fixtures more than Richarlisons, who is at a similar price point.

Almost certain to get a cs, usually gets 1/2 BP. So that makes it a minimum of 7 points from him.

He is attacking, plays for attacking team, could get that assist and who knows could score too.

looking solid, dont know about h.costa will he play or not, not really on my radar. but otherwise looks good.

Saw the stats. Jimenez was awful last weekend, hooked at 59', looked jaded.
H.Costa played the 90', looked dangerous with two shots and two dribbles. Interesting to see that it was Doherty, not Costa who made way to Traore, which suggests that Costa was playing very well.
Didnt see the game though, just stats.

I can see that. I do wonder if Jimenez will be dropped (although he has just traveled back on a long haul flight which would account for looking jaded). I am looking for Jimenez replacements as much as I am considering Fraser or Ward replacements (I have 1.1m in the bank for someone).

For Fraser, Im looking at Knockeart or Izzy-whatshisname.
Jimenez is a keeper in my team for now, I want to keep team structure as long as possible.

I wouldn't go near Knockeart. With GroB coming back soon I think his place is far from secure and his stats are not great. I agree about structure. I wouldn't be adverse to switching Jimenez to Ings if it comes to it.

    what to do?

    patricio (hamer)
    robbo, bennett, alonso, cedric (awb)
hazard, salah (c), richarlison (hojberg, bacuna)
    kane, laca, wilson

    A. kane -> firmino
    B. go with this team, save FT
    C. other thoughts?

dont really see the point in that swap, cuz i think there is equal chance both of them to score and they are playing against each other. ofc manc have been better defensively but you never know with kane.

Desperate to get rid of TAA, how's this for free?

TAA + Alonso -> Robertson + David Luiz

So tempted to (C) Hazard over Salah. Both the individual and team attacking stats, and the opposition defensive team stats support it, as does form. Only hold backs are H v A fixture and injury doubt.

If Sarri confirms Haz is fully fit, will anyone switch to Haz (C)?
