The second FFScout Charity Cup takes place later today

With no Premier League action this weekend, all eyes will surely be focused on Parmiter’s School, Watford, WD25 0UU this afternoon as members of the Fantasy Football Scout community and their guests come together to participate in the second FFScout Charity Cup, taking football offline and onto the grass (or rather, 3G) in aid of a very worthy cause.

Last February, we raised over £1,000 towards the Melanoma Research Foundation. This time, we will be raising money for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) which works to prevent male suicide (the biggest killer of under 45-year-old men in the UK).

If you would like to donate, please follow this link to our Just Giving page.

Despite around a dozen withdrawals in the build-up to the big event (with players no doubt fit for league action next weekend!), we are still expecting over 40 players for a light-hearted, mixed-level mini-tournament followed by drinks at the local inn.

Further details can be found at the Just Giving link above and late players or spectators are very welcome, as are contributions towards CALM’s work. For those who can’t make it, we will try to post updates on this page throughout the day.

A round-up of last February’s event can be found at this link, which includes a slideshow and videos produced by our very own TopMarx and Rupert the Horse.

CALM’s helpline – 0800 58 58 58 – and webchat are open daily 5pm-midnight. It’s free, anonymous and confidential.

For more information about CALM and the impact that your donation will have, please read here.

CALM is a charity registered in England and Wales (1110621) and in Scotland (SC044347)

    Best replacement for Mendy?
Don’t have Alonso but can’t afford him, Laporte the obvious pick?

    Hazard Sterling Mane Richarlison
    Arnautovic Wilson Jiminez

Also should I be playing Dunk (LEI) over anyone?

Richarlison looks a good pick for captain. I think Dunk should stay on the bench.

Got a bit punty bringing Firmino and Lamela in over the last 5 GW. Given Mendy injury, thinking of a -8 to sort it out?

Firmino, Lamela, Mendy -> Jiminez, Sterling, Stones?

      Patricio
      Robbo - Alonso - Stones
      Sterling - Hazard - Mane - Fraser
      Kun - Arnie - Jiminez
      ________
      Hamer - Bennett - AWB - Stephens

Hmm -8 is a big blow on next GW. I think it will pay off in the next 4/5 but I'd be expecting a red arrow this GW. When are you thinking of WC'ing or have you already?

Cheers mate. Unfortunately played my WC. I suspect both Mendy and Lamela won't start and with Stephens suspended and AWB yellow flagged (and Firmino set for another 2-pointer), I think it may pay off this GW?

How deep is your bench? With 9 games in 5 weeks coming up (plus champions league & league cup) the already high level of injuries & rotation is only likely to increase...

Are you taking the opportunity to redistribute some funds towards your first, second and/or third subs in preparation?

Personally I had Ederson, RAM, Haz, Kun, Salah, Wilson as starters, then one of Fraser, Ings, TAA first sub/AWB second sub, with a dead slot for sub keeper & third sub.

I’m now thinking of swapping Mendy & AWB for Digne & Doherty to bolster th bench. A bit.

On my WC I got 15 players that play every week and that I'm not scared to play. For example my midfield is: Rich, Mane, Hazard, Fraser and Martial.

Current bench is: Hart, Duffy, Fraser AWB.

I always like having a strong bench all the time because then bad fixtures aren't as much of a problem.

As for those moves, I'd do them.

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          • 14 Years
          5 years, 5 months ago

AWB as a third sub is a good call. That’s the problem with mid vs defence - cheaper “playing” players are always available in defence vs midfield or attack.

But I do think Robbo, Alonso, Digne, Doherty, TAA should provide a good enough first & second sub to get through the fixture madness, hopefully without needing to go 3 deep into the bench

      3. Pinturicchio10
          5 years, 5 months ago

Decent but soon to be deep as f**k for December madness.

I'm quite happy with a two decent bench players rather than three bench fodders. I've currently got Brooks AWB and Quaner.

After United this week, Palaces awful fixtures come to an end and hopefully we will see some 9 pointers from AWB again.

Maybe on my WC I'll sort out my third bench fodder, but realistically how often will all three bench players be auto subbed in a single gameweeks? Very unlikely imo.

Rolling and very happy with AWB and Camarasa as my fodder options. I've a rotating 12th man atm between Pereira/Fraser/Barkley/Jimenez, though Barkles will probably become Richarlison this wk following a Mendy>Doherty move for funds

Camerasa is very interesting. I saw him hitting DFK’s recently & seems to be quite involved going forwards. Cardiff are also in a little bit of form, putting 4 past Fulham helped their confidence.

Him & AWB probably allow a full extra 1.0 - 1.5 on the starting XI vs going for 5.0-ish benchers like TAA, Doherty, Diane etc.

I like to have players that I'd be happy to play some or most weeks so that I can rotate my starting 11 when I expect a blank and to plug the gap when there's injuries and rotation in my starting 11. This saves a lot of transfers. With the poor fixtures for all my budget players lately, it's not helped but I've not left any money on the bench anyway since I got Salah in before Cardiff and there's 2 decent 4m defenders available (4.4 /4 / 4 on bench now). But now I've got Doherty in for Bennett, meaning barkley will be on my bench this week. I want to upgrade him, although I might end up with very tough decisions every week and too much money on the bench, so I need to reconsider my team structure. But I'm comfortable with my team nevertheless.

I think a rotation/pool approach around the edges of your team makes most sense when the fixtures get crazy...

When you have a premium core involving 2 or 3 big hitting defenders, and 3 or 4 big hitting attackers (basically 5 of Robbo, Alonso, Haz, Salah, Kun, Sterling this year) it reconciles very well with having one or two from TAA, Diane, Doherty, Fraser, Deulofeu, Success, Ings, Jiminez, Wilson etc.

It’s just hitting the right ones at the right times

Agreed about both points on the fixture schedule and the key being to make the right budget picks. I'm not seeing any mids priced below 6.5 that are worth owning at the moment, which is probably why i stupidly got Barkley in. I basically have 2 dud midfield spots which is what I need to fix (I favour midfielders generally so I don't like wasting their slots). Thinking of getting sterling in for Salah and upgrading Barkley to Martial/similar price, then I'll need to bench one of Doherty/jiminez/Richarlison, which looks sensible based on the next few fixtures for wolves and Everton.

My bench is currently Doherty/Fraser rotating 1st sub, Murphy 2nd sub, AWB 3rd sub. I brought them in at just 0.7m over the starting lowest priced options e.g. 4m def/4.5m mid they all have good upsides and are very cheap. I am tempted to rotate AWB/Doherty each week (their fixtures allow it), downgrade Mendy to Peltier and the upgrade Martial to Spurs/City mid (if KDB was fit it would be him) or possibly Murphy to Richarlson.

That would then leave me with a bench of Murphy, AWB, Peltier. Not great but ok. Or if I upgrade Murphy then I would always have 1 of Fraser/Jimenez/Richarlson 1st sub.

I think the optimum approach is picking an 10th and 11th best outfielder (I.e. last pick of your starting XI and 1st sub) who have excellent rotating fixtures and both are low in transfer value and are good options. That is currently Fraser/Doherty for me. And if I pick up an injury they are still decent options to come on when given tricky fixtures.

Fraser, Doherty, Ings, Jiminez, Deulofeu, Success, Digne, AWB, Camarasa are the recurring names alright... basically anything up to 5.5 is fair game...

Murphy, AWB, and R. Bennett. Cheap and they put up points when I need them. I may upgrade Murphy to Gudmundsson for the upcoming busy schedule.

Should be deep. Not because you'd expect to use all three any given week, but because B) the bench should give you possibilities to have a good 1.sub and B) also contribute in a rotational set up.

I'm fairly happy with my current set-up, where Ive got Doherty, Digne, Hughes and success battling for a slot in the XI each week. Happy with the set-up, not necessarily the players.....

I do think it's worth saying goodbye to 1.0-1.5 extra on your bench each week.

Very strong bench at present - Any three from Doherty, Arnie, Wilson, Barkley, AWB.

Looking to downgrade Barkley and upgrade one of the others.

Have WC soon though and looking for a bench of 2 x 5-5.5m and probably AWB or Bennett as third sub. My strategy will hopefully be Schindler/Digne/Doherty as cheap defenders so offers pleny of flexibility during tough periods.

After my transfers this week, I will have
one or two of Doherty/Digne/AWB and
          one or two of Kenedy/Arnie/Wilson/Jimenez
          depending on the fixture.
For example this week bench will be Arnie/Kenedy/AWB and next week Wilson/AWB/Digne.
I like that flexibility during this period of the year. It may change with the fixture swing in GW15 though.

FAnderson clearly on form could see Arnautovic getting a YC or something silly, clearly on Arnautovic at the moment.. I could see WH scoring 1-3 or 2-4 any opinions on the matter?

Both will probably do well over a period of 5-6 weeks.

Arnautovic has comparatively less competition whereas Anderson has to compete with likes of Richarlison/Fraser/Martial etc...

I think there are more alternatives in F.Andersons position and price bracket than Arnies. Arnie is by far the best second striker / 6-8M striker so Arnie for me.

Looking at downgrading Mendy and upgrading Fraser (Got Brooks also so not keen on doubling up for the next two at least).

With 2FT and 12.5M to spend, is Doherty and Martial the best investment to make? (Already have Richarlison if that helps).

It hurts at first when you buy them, but i believe it is worth it long term

        What’s the best option here:

        A) Mendy + Bennett > Laporte + Doherty -4
        B) Mendy > Doherty
        C) Mendy > Laporte
        D) Mendy + Fraser > Doherty + Martial -4

I’m prettt stuck here really, I don’t want to take a hit unless it pays off specially since it’s quals for the members cup!

I’m contemplating going cityless in defence since I’d be able to have Yedlin/Doherty/awb as third options and it gives me martial for utds fixture run in place of Fraser where I already have Wilson.

But equally I could have Fraser on the bench and have RAL and Doherty - maybe it’s best to two stage option A so not to take a hit

Already there has been a Laporte rise which is annoying!

For next GW: Fraser + Obiang >> Anderson + Paterson
        a) Yes
        b) No
        c) If that's your biggest worry you must have a great team
        d) Lots of lubrication and go gently at first

Basically choose 2 from Fabianski, Patricio and Pickford, IMO - look for the 2 that rotate best

        A Mendy & Maddison > Smalling & Martial
