With top 500 finishes in three of his last four seasons Mark McGettigan, aka FPL  General, is a more than worthy interviewee for our Meet the Manager series.

Mark explains what it takes to make the leap from being a good Fantasy Premier League manager to one who is challenging for the top places in the competition.

As well as patience and an aversion to hits, he believes that bravery in the transfer market and avoiding the crowd are important lessons to a successful ascent up the rankings.

He also reveals why underlying statistics are only one part of his Fantasy management jigsaw, which is dominated by the good old-fashioned eye-test.

The FPL website’s own Watchlist tool is another vital weapon in Mark’s Fantasy management armoury. He discusses why this often overlooked function has been so important to helping him better organise his thoughts regarding transfers.

However, with a current rank just outside the top 400,000, he faces one of his toughest tasks yet in 2018/19.

As well as sharing his strategies for success he also analyses where it has gone wrong this season and how he plans to turn it around.

Tapping into Manchester City’s potent midfield and ending his reliance on mediocre captains look key as he aims to once again finish strongly.

The chat with Mark is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

Can’t believe Auba is rising again tonight!
    Can’t remember a time that’s happened, 2 rises in 2 days!!
Did Martial have that happens few years back? Can’t remember !

Yeah rookie error by myself. Planned Auba & Alli transfer next week but didn't anticipate another price rise. Gonna be priced out by 0.1 probably.

        Ah well, Son it is.

Yes, it's kind of annoying as my plan next GW can only take 1 rise. Makes it hard to play against the template as your team value just lags behind.

Thanking of bench boosting this team whats peoples thots? Also have 1ft but dont thank i need to use it

1ft would you use it or im i good to save?

    Patricio
    Alonso, taa, laporte
    Richarlison, dsilva, sane, mane
    Kane, Arnautovic, Jiménez

    Bench, hamer, Pereira, awb, brooks

Hamer won't play, and overall your bench simply doesn't look that strong. Save the Bench Boost.

Different question from the norm... my girlfriend's team was in a proper state so I suggested she use her wildcard.

Very low transfer value (think it was only a mite over £101m!) but we've cobbled together this:

    Fabianski (Patricio)
    Alonso, Laporte, TAA, Duffy (AWB)
    Hazard, Sterling, Richarlison (Kanté, Billing)
    Kane, Arnautovic, Jiminez

Done with exact money. Anything you'd change before the next GW?

Why Hazard? thinking of ditching him myself, I don't think he's worth the money compared to other options. Could do Sane, Dilva, and upgrade one of the other mids to someone like Fraser?

True - it's her call at the end of the day but I wanted to get a sanity check as I'd feel guilty suggesting the WC then wasting it.

Still got Hazard myself but used my FT this week. Potentially look at shifting him after tomorrow.

    A: Kane, Sane, Fraser; or
    B: Auba, Sterling, Brooks?

Shipping out Haz, Barkley, and Kun from team below (for -4).

    Hart/Button
    Alonso, Robbo, Laporte, Doherty, WB
    Haz, Barks, Salah, Rich, Hojbjerg
    Aguero, Arnie, Jimmy

Wouldn't the two 'big' transfers do the trick? Can't see you gaining enough back to justify the hit of the third. Unless it enables the other two of course.

      1. Indio
        • 14 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

Yeah it’s a good point but they are enabling in those combos, and I’m factoring in Robbo doubt and that Barks won’t play to justify the hit! Have some options for 2xFTs though... Anyways thanks for feedback!

    Evening all
Used my FT already and have the below. It's not worth wildcarding to get in Fabianski, Anderson, Auba is it? May as well stick this week?

    A) stick
    B) wildcard

    Patricio
    Alonso. Robbo. Chilwell
    Salah. Sane. Fraser. Cairney
    Jiminez. Kane (c) Arnie

    Foster. AWB. Doherty. Gudmunson

    Ryan

    Alonso/Doherty/Digne

    Haz/Rich/Salah(c)/Anderson

    Auba/Wilson/Arnie

    (AWB/Hughes/Balbuena)

Used my 2fts to get Auba and Anderson for Kun and Martial.

I know iv no city but given rotation fears I may get away with it for this week.

Hazard out for Sterling if he doesn't cop on very soon

Surely im due a 70+ pt week?? What ya think??

    Thoughts on these:
    A - Aguero/Martial to Zaha/Sterling
    B- Aguero/Martial to Kane/5M mid
    C- Aguero/Mane/Martial to Aub/Sterling/5m mid (4pt hit)
    or, simply just...
Aguero to Aub and carry over a FT.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

    Fabianski
    Alonso - TAA - Laporte - Dunk
    Salah - Hazard - Martial
    Jimenez - Arny - Kun

    Rui - AWB - Murphy - Obiang

    A) Martial > Son
    B) Martial > Moura

    D) Kun > Kane and Martial > 7.2 mid (-4)

In the exact same dilemma - I have no idea. I like Kane (C) this week but I know I'll want to get Aubameyang in at some point, and I don't want him to keep rising and rising.

I don't think many in my ML's will be going for Kane this week which makes me safer going with Aubameyang.

      What are you leaning towards?

      [My dilemma:
      A) Aguero --> Aubameyang
      B) Aguero + Robertson --> Kane (C) + TAA (-4) ]

      1. Gooner97
        • 12 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

I was kinda waiting GW16 for Auba because I was also tempted by Laca if he played #9 spot but the price cheanges are happening faster than I expected.
Anyway, I wouldn't sell Robbo because he's a top player (I also have him at 6.2 atm) and it's only a dead leg. I understand Liverpool cover, especially in defence is essential, but I can make it through. (Maybe get TAA as well) Also, I'm not really convinced by Kane and his pricetag at all...

        1. The Count of Monte Cristo
          • 13 Years
          7 years, 4 months ago

Likewise, and knowing that I want him, I don't want to lose 0.2m more if I can avoid it. Think I'm just gonna make that move now tbh.

Totally agree about Robertson, and if he's out I'll have Laporte - Alonso - AWB with Patricio in goal so it's not a huge loss. Let's just pray.

Not owning nor Salah nor Kane maybe Haz because Sterling could be rested... otherwise I might just captain Auba if I get him. All my front 8 players have nice fixtures lol I'm a bit undecided tbh

City always score and he is in good form and seems the least likely to be rotated. Other options are Sterling, Hazard, F.Anderskn(VC), Arnautovic or Wilson
