While we’ll be bringing you the usual team news video and article write-up on Friday, the earlier-than-usual Gameweek 27 deadline has prompted this initial summary of the press conferences and medical bulletins that have happened already.

Things We’ve Learned

The headline news came from Mauricio Pochettino’s presser, with talk of Harry Kane‘s (ankle) return dominating proceedings.

The Spurs boss said of his star striker:

He’s very good. I think we need to assess him one training session tomorrow and then decide but I think he’s doing well. I am happy with him and maybe he’s going to be available to be part of the squad.

He’s not ahead of schedule but everyone knows that Harry is an animal, he wants to be ready as soon as possible. He made everything to try to recover and, of course, the injury that he suffered is tough to recover but it’s more the possibility that when you push, you push. In some injuries, you cannot push too much, because always you need to be careful. When it’s a massive injury it’s completely different.

But of course, we’re so happy that in the last ten days he was fantastic, back in training again, and he can be available again. It’s going to be a massive impact for everyone.

I don’t care if he feels ready or wants to play or not, like another player. I’ll decide myself, with my coaching staff, with the doctor and the medical staff and the sports science staff. Always with every player that came from an injury or illness, always it’s about the structure, when it’s possible to play or not. Of course, if you ask him ten days ago, he was ready to play. But in the end, the last word is always myself. I take the risk, the decision and everything that is going on in the team.

Ben Davies (groin) has also returned to training this week, though Danny Rose (illness) is a minor doubt for the trip to Burnley.

One Spurs player who won’t feature this weekend is Dele Alli (hamstring), with Pochettino providing this update on the injured midfielder:

His progression is good, we are happy. This is the last part of the period of his recovery. Difficult to say: maybe one week, maybe ten days, maybe two weeks. We are going to assess him day by day.

Burnley will again be without Steven Defour (calf), Aaron Lennon (knee) and Jonathan Walters (Achilles), though Sean Dyche confirmed on Thursday that Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady are fit to feature.

Leicester’s fixtures are about to take a turn for the better but those Fantasy managers who were interested in James Maddison and Ben Chilwell might have been slightly deterred by Claude Puel’s comments on Thursday.

The Foxes’ boss said:

We have an issue with Chilwell and Maddison and we will make a point in tomorrow’s training session. It’s not serious but we will see tomorrow.

Manuel Pellegrini delivered his press conference on Wednesday and brought news that Manuel Lanzini (knee) and Samir Nasri (calf) have returned to training.

The West Ham United boss said the pair “maybe” have a chance of featuring against Fulham, though there was no update forthcoming on Fabian Balbuena (knee).

Pellegrini said:

For this game, we have the squad which played most of the games and we will have the squad list on Thursday, and maybe Lanzini and Nasri can be included on that squad list.

They worked not only today but they worked the complete week. We will talk to the medical staff about whether we can use them.

All four playmakers in our squad were injured, which is always difficult, so the return of both of them injects more quality into the squad.

We will analyse Jack Wilshere next week, then we will be more clear about his future.

Claudio Ranieri meanwhile declared that, Alfie Mawson (knee) aside, Fulham have no injury worries – meaning that new signings Lazar Markovic and Havard Nordtveit could be match-fit enough to feature.

Kiko Femenia (hamstring) is Javi Gracia’s only injury-related absentee going into Friday’s game at Cardiff, though Jose Holebas begins a two-match ban for accruing ten yellow cards.

Gracia said:

Roberto [Pereyra] and Isaac [Success] are both ready to compete. Roberto is a very important player, making the difference in a lot of games, scoring goals and assisting. Isaac hasn’t played the same minutes as other players, but the time he played, he played with quality and is helping the team. He’s a good option for us in attack with his power and pace. He is something different for us to help us manage different games.

Prödl is another option for us at centre-back where the players are playing well. It’s always good to have a player of his quality.

Kiko is feeling very well in all the training sessions. For the next game, it’s impossible [for him to play] but I think for the game after, he will be ready.

Sean Morrison (appendix) is back in training for the Bluebirds, but Neil Warnock cast doubt on whether the club captain would feature against the Hornets and provided an update on Victor Camarasa.

On Morrison, Warnock said:

He’s training, he had another tough session yesterday. He’s just got to have a bit of football in his locker. We’ve got three games in a week so it’s pointless rushing him. I’m hoping he’s going to be involved at some stage this week.

On Camarasa:

He has a medical team from Spain that look after him. Sometimes we don’t agree. It’s difficult for Victor because he’s got so many people talking to him. It’s [an ongoing] calf injury. He’s doing most things really well.

Huddersfield have been given a boost by the return of Jonas Lossl and Chris Lowe from illness, while Elias Kachunga has had a less-serious dose of the flu ahead of the trip to Newcastle.

Danny Williams (knee) won’t be ready to play despite a return to training, though Abdelhamid Sabiri (knee) featured for the under-23s last week and may come back into contention.

Managers Yet to Deliver a Press Conference

Unai Emery (Arsenal)
Eddie Howe (Bournemouth)
Roy Hodgson (Crystal Palace)
Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Manchester United)
Rafael Benitez (Newcastle United)
Ralph Hasenhuttl (Southampton)
Nuno Espirito Santo (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Injury News That May Be Updated on Friday

  • Laurent Koscielny came off with a muscular injury in Arsenal’s win over BATE on Thursday night, with Unai Emery describing the defender’s substitution as “precautionary”. Ainsley Maitland-Niles missed out through illness.
  • Callum Wilson (knee) and David Brooks (ankle) are thought to be medium-term absentees for Bournemouth and are not currently scheduled to return till March.
  • Jurgen Klopp earlier in the week declared Dejan Lovren (muscle) a major doubt for the trip to Manchester United.
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ruled Anthony Martial (groin) and Jesse Lingard (hamstring) out for “two to three weeks” last Friday but reports in the media suggest the pair could possibly recover for the visit of Liverpool – this has yet to be confirmed by Manchester United, however.
  • Jonjo Shelvey (thigh) has returned to training for Newcastle United.
  • Danny Ings (hamstring) hasn’t been sighted in training this week, though Stuart Armstrong (calf) has been involved.
  • Matt Doherty came off with a knock in the FA Cup win over Bristol City last weekend, though Nuno Espirito Santo appeared to downplay the severity of the injury. Diogo Jota missed out on that victory with a dead leg.

Predicted line-ups and in-depth team news on the eight teams who have held press conferences already can be found here.

        Son - Salah* - Pogba
        Rashford - Jiménez - Aubameyang

Almost. Have 6 players for GW 31, but with Richa likely to make way for Anderson or someone else.

Thoughts on this chip strategy for players who have almost all of their players blanking in gw 31?

    fh31 bb32 wc33 tc35

In the next few weeks you could get sterling and kun and maybe even kane, who most people will be ignoring. Then fh in 31 and get 11 players you'd actually want (many bandwagons failed last year leading up to the big bgw). You could bb in 32 as since most popular cheap defenders, such as awb and kiko, have 2 games that week. The tricky part will be the wc in gw33. You'll want people who play in 33 but also players who play twice in 35. It's not as bad as it may sound though. You could get two gks to rotate with one playing in 33 while the other has a dgw in 35. You could get two cheap defenders who play in 33 who you'd bench in 35. You could get 3 Liverpool players and 1 or 2 bournemouth players as they have really good fixtures in 33, 35, and the rest of the season. You also will have two fts to use so you could get rid of 2 players playing in 33 for 2 playing twice in 35. You could manage 9 players in 33 still have a very good starting 11 in 35 where you could still have 7 dgw players without any hits. This strategy would also allow you to play tc in 35.

tldr: build for 32 bb, allowing you to bring in man city and spurs. fh in 31. Then wc in 33 getting 9 playing that week and 5 who have dgw in 35 so you can have 7 (using 2 fts) dgw players in 35, with your other players being liverpool or bournemouth players who have a great fixture in 35.You will also be able to use tc in a dgw

Not sure how you build for the doubles in 32 when we don't know which fixtures are moving? I'm not sure if it's as simple as all GW31 blanks moving to 32.

I agree that it's frustrating looking at players I might want short term, but passing them over because they don't play in 31.

Great alternative thinking. Too many following the crowd like sheep plus this allows you to focus on the best teams and players now up to the first dgw.

He played RM a few times and was dropped a couple of games when Amartey was available. But since Amartey had a season long injury, Pereira has been played at RB.

Amartey played right back the most times Pereira played OOP, and the recent games it was Simpson who played right back. Simpson were awful so not looking likely to get Pereira OOP again before Amartey is bacfk.

Hey MT. I do want to double up on Liverpool's defence, but not until next week. I was thinking Yedlin or a Leicester defender, but really think Palace will score. Maybe Maguire as he has attacking threat.

Periera/Chilwell have looked good when I've seen them. Maguire doesn't appeal, but maybe if opposition are poor on set pieces? Haven't watched Newcastle recently tbh

I probably should get Pereira again like earlier in the season. He is up against Zaha however, so not sure if this is the week to get him.

            Am probably over thinking it!

No I think the same - being pushed into it due to Holebas suspension but wouldn't otherwise choose a Lei (or New) defender until much closer to the blanks. Esp for a hit which will be necessary for Pereira if Chilwell's out.

    Best replacement for Richarlison

    I have 9.1

Oddly I'm leaning towards Amiron as Newcastle have such appealing fixtures....where as Fraser is an option but tricky fixtures.

    Any ideas guys

Almiron is pure hype at the moment. Struggled in 45 min friendly vs CSKA probably lacking match fitness. Rafa said may start him may introduce off bench

Shelvey did full training in Spain and Ki and Diame played first half vs CSKA They rotated whole 11 first and second half. Hayden played with most of the second string but so did Ritchie

Hayden is a deep lying midfielder really. Avoid like the plague

good shout, i have rondon bit skeptical to double up.

trying to decide on rich replacement, Anderson i guess is obvious choice

        I have Anderson

Fraser is a potential replacement but he's been quiet lately in terms of big returns

I doubt they are nailed unless they perform. With these fixtures to navigate, no show or 1pt cameo is not a risk I want to take. The cost might be -4 besides bad gw result.

Just bought Barnes to sit on my bench this week (funded Kamara to Laca). With Albrighton injured & Ghezzal underperforming, i cant see Barnes missing many minutes any time soon.

On the RMT on here, how frequent do they change projections for GWs?

What factors do they take into account?

i just wanted to back test it- but need to know how static the data is....

ye individually its not great for some players-but appears to be very effective in a general sense

If you’re not playing FH GW 13 how many hits are you willing to take ahead of that week?

I’m looking at trying to field 10 players for a -8 and hope that Schindler and Hayden plays.

As many as I feel necessary based on cash ML chasers and form of players between now and then

Hitting in players like Hazard, Higuain, Mane can work if you are free hitting 32 as they have decent matches in 33 when your team reverts back.

E.g. a -8 to get those 3 for Aguero, Son, Pogba could work well as they don't play in 31, can free hit them back in for 32, and they probably won't play in 33 (FA results dependent)

All chips in tact and really tempted to TC Salah away to Fulham in GW31. With free transfers I can only get 8 out, so with TC would effectively be 9 and my extra player would be another Salah.

Someone talk me out of it.

Maybe if Chelsea have double outside the big two double gameweeks? Salah or Kane at home to HUD the only other single fixtures I think i’d consider using it on.

It will not effectively be 9 aince everyone else can TC another GW instead. I do think it can be a good time to do it however, especially since many won’t be able to use both BB and TC on a DGW since they will WC.

You’re right in that it doesn’t give me an extra player over everyone else across the season. But would - barring a Sane fiasco - at least guanteee me an extra 2 points from my 8 players, which is better than taking a hit to field 9 I think.

All things considered doesn't sound terrible but Salah scored 4 in last season's corresponding fixture of GW28 opponent
