Gameweek 27 came to a conclusion earlier this afternoon with two matches held at Old Trafford and the Emirates, so our focus now switches to the EFL Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester City.

Kick-off at Wembley is at 16:30 GMT.

Both of these sides blanked in Gameweek 27, of course, as a result of this tie.

Pep Guardiola has made only one change to his starting XI from the side that beat Schalke in midweek, with Oleksandr Zinchenko starting instead of Ilkay Gundogan.

That alteration means that Aymeric Laporte will move back over to centre-back, with Fernandinho pushed forward into his usual central midfield position.

Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling start in a front three with Bernardo Silva again.

Leroy Sane is among the substitutes, though Gabriel Jesus hasn’t recovered from injury to make the bench.

Eden Hazard starts as a central striker in Maurizio Sarri’s usual 4-3-3, with Gonzalo Higuain only among the substitutes.

Marcos Alonso is not part of the match-day squad, so Emerson Palmieri starts at left-back.

Both of these sides return to Premier League action on Wednesday evening: Chelsea face Spurs at Stamford Bridge, while City take on West Ham at the Etihad.

Chelsea XI (4-3-3): Kepa, Azpilicueta, Luiz, Rudiger, Emerson, Jorginho, Kante, Barkley, Willian, Hazard, Pedro.

Manchester City XI (4-3-3): Ederson, Zinchenko, Laporte, Otamendi, Walker, Fernandinho, Silva, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Sterling, Aguero.

The fact that rest of chelsea players didnt back Sarri & tell Kepa to come off is very telling....
They dont respect him at all

Or is it because they didn't want to impact kepas focus if he was bullishly stay on the field anyway

Just because he wanted to stay on doesnt mean h!e should get to!
Whats the point of a manager if players are allowed to overule their decisions

Too much player power at chelsea....been going on for a good few years
Not good for football as a whole when players dont respect their managers

I agree, and partly disagree. The players definitely don't care about their managers and it's been the same group for ages now that are consistently showing how they act like children. But at the same time none of them are capable of leading themselves or each other. 10 years ago you could have looked at almost any player on the field in blue and said ya, he could lead the dressing room himself, he can run the pitch.

Anyone bringing in Sterling/Aguero? Hard to go w/o City vs WHU, but just impossible to know which will start, especially midweek after 120mins for some.

Could have done any number of
    A) Auba-->Aguero
    B) Rashford+Anderson-->Sterling+Barnes (-4)
    C) Rashford+Anderson-->Aguero+Fraser (-4)

But maybe thinking just Rashford to Barnes, or even save FT? I've got 3.4 ITB

    Fabianski (Boruc)
    Robertson Doherty Pereira (Bednarek AWB**)
    Salah Son Pogba (Anderson Camarasa)
    Auba(c) Jimenez Rashford*

I'm in the very same dilemma, and can't decide. Auba > Kun an easy free transfer, but what if he's rested? Sterling is also an option, but that involves a hit for me as well (with Rashford+Son going out – while reluctantly keeping Anderson).

Stats are on Barnes side. Burnley share pens depending on who won it but Barnes does take some.

Wood who is the taller target man came off after 75 v Saints to be replaced by Crouch. I seem to think that will happen more often than Barnes going off.

Kepa should be sacked, not Sarri."

Kepa obviously thought Sarri was making a decision based on bad info, and wanted to stop him wasting the sub. It's unprofessional from him and the staff, but it's hardly a sackable offense. Sarri might have wanted to take him of due to possible injury PLUS other factors which Kepa didn't even consider (e.g. Willy could be a better option for pens anyway). The injury doubt being enough to help Sarri cross the threshold to make the decision. Not need for all the sensationalism going about. Tbh Sarri handled it most poorly imo

        1. Richd

            • 9 Years
            6 years, 9 months ago

So? You can still use a sub.

The point is that Kepa thought Sarri thought that Kepa was injured. But Kepa thought he was not injured. So he was trying to communicate that to the staff.

Lack of communication =confusion, and everyone looking for someone to burn.

Not the point. He was told 3 or 4 times to come off.
What happens when Sarri wants to make a sub in next game? Pedro says nope staying on?
Doesn't matter on the situation manager says you're off then that's it. Otherwise sets a horrible precedent.
Sarri picks kepa for next game he looks as weak as hell.

          1. Deulofail
            • 9 Years
            6 years, 9 months ago

Yeah but he is a Keeper. I've never seen a keeper subbed when not injured. (Well maybe once, maybe never, not sure). So it's not the same. Kepa thought Sarri made a mistake, and the intensity of the situation caused a massive reaction from commentators, views and even Sarri himself.

Everyone but Sarri is confused as they don't have all the information. If the crowd would just shut up for a second, they could just communicate properly 😆

Why is it an over-reaction? He was subbed and refused to go off. Then, the team lost the penalty shoot out. I'd be surprised if he ever played for Chelsea again while Sarri is the manager.

      1. Deulofail
        • 9 Years
        6 years, 9 months ago

Did the board even go up?

The team losing the penalty shoot out has nothing to do with Kepa's decision to refuse to go off. They could have won.

That's a classic example of the sensationalism I'm talking about. People are more angry because of the result and use it to inform their opinions about Kepa's behaviour before the shoot out.

Judge the incident based on all of eternity leading up to the incident, but not based on the only time that doesn't influenceit (the future!) haha

Keeper refusing to be subbed. Captain nowhere to be seen. Willian laughing around with Guardiola literally seconds after losing the final. Well on their way to getting another manager fired. Chelsea are a joke

Sarri pussied out and now Kepa is more to blame then Sarri, he could have easily made him come off...

      1. MTPockets
          6 years, 9 months ago

How? He had a team in last few minutes of a final and needing to be psychologically ready for penalties

He made a decision and didn't follow through on it. He nearly walked off down the tunnel instead of sticking to his guns.Cabellero is proven in penalty shootouts and to bring him on was the smart decision. Sarri didn't want to be blamed so he did nothing and now Kepa is to blame.
