Fantasy Premier League managers are faced with a much easier captaincy decision for Gameweek 28 compared to last week.

With Manchester City and Chelsea now back in action, Arsenal’s starting XI easier to predict and Liverpool facing more favourable opposition, there are considerably more clear cut options.

As per usual, we have assessed the key candidates from the poll for their own statistical performance of late, cross-comparing how their teams and opposition have done over the same period.

Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) has shaken off some early competition from Sergio Aguero (£11.6m) to pull away in the latest captain poll. Ahead of Watford’s visit to Anfield, the Liverpool man has garnered the support of 40% of the vote. That is hardly surprising considering Salah’s scoring record against Watford, having found the net six times in three Premier League matches. The Egyptian has also blanked at home just once since Gameweek 19.

Currently occupying second place in the poll is Manchester City striker Aguero. After running Salah close in the early hours of the vote, is now backed by just 18%. The case for the Argentinian is easy to understand after back-to-back home hat-tricks in Gameweeks 26 and 27, ahead of West Ham’s visit to the Etihad Stadium. What may be putting Fantasy managers off is his 120-minute outing for the Citizens in Sunday’s League Cup final.

A benching for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) in Gameweek 27 has certainly put the masses off the Arsenal striker for the midweek visit of Bournemouth to the Emirates Stadium. At the time of writing, he has the backing of just 15%, despite the fact that he has scored or assisted in every home match he has started against sides outside the top six since Gameweek 12.

A tenth Premier League goal of the season for Raúl Jiménez (£6.8m) at the Vitality Stadium has helped him to become the best of the rest in the Gameweek 28 captain poll. The Wolves forward has the backing of 5% ahead of a trip to Huddersfield.

Richarlison (£6.6m) makes a surprise appearance in the top five despite his recent disappointment for Fantasy managers. 2.65% of our voters believe handing the captain armband to the Everton man for a trip to Cardiff could pay dividends. That may well be influenced by the 5-1 drubbing Watford handed out at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday evening.

Raheem Sterling (£11.3m) is another Manchester City option suffering in the captain poll as a result of the League Cup final. The England international also played 120 minutes on Sunday which could jeopardise his chances of starting against West Ham. For that reason, he is currently only seen as the best captain for Gameweek 28 by 2.38% of our voters.

He is marginally ahead of Paul Pogba (£8.8m) this week as a stricken Manchester United side prepare to travel to Crystal Palace. The Frenchman played a slightly deeper role against Liverpool, with Nemanja Matic (£5.0m) missing out, and the concern over that has been borne out in just 2.34% backing in the poll.

Alexander Lacazette (£9.5m) is still around to play a part in the captain conversation after missing Thursday night’s Europa League action through suspension and scoring against Southampton. 2.3% of our voters believe he is the best candidate ahead of Bournemouth’s trip to north London.

Leroy Sané‘s (£9.5m) lack of heavy involvement in the League Cup final makes him one of the most likely starters for Manchester City on Wednesday night, hence why he has managed to get a place in the top 10 of the poll. 1.6% are brave enough to call on him for the armband, just ahead of Harry Kane (£12.4m) who has the backing of 1.2% ahead of a trip to Chelsea and Stamford Bridge.

I know Rondon or Barnes is causing headaches for many.

I think it comes down to Barnes' guarantee of GW33 fixture v Rondon's better fixtures, particularly GW30 when Barnes is away at Liverpool.

I was on Barnes, now I'm edging slightly towards Rondon.

    What do you all think?

      Very similar thinking.

If you are free hitting in GW32 then the "different" fixtures they have between now and GW34 wildcard fall into Rondon's favour.

You're basically risking him not having a game in 33

Watford at home to Palace will be slight favourites so the odds are currently suggesting Rondon won't have a game.

        It's a close game though

The other way around based on Crellin. Odds are something like 56-44 in Watford's favour.

Interesting. I have Tarkowski so Rondon is additionally tempting to hedge my bets with those two this weekend (as well as the pro-Rondon reasons above).

Though I'm probably keeping Rashford, I would tend to agree. Barnes also seems to have penalties (though it's not impossible that duties are shared), whereas I think Ritchie has them at Newcastle.

    A) Rashford --> Barnes/Rondon now (FT). Then tomorrow either Firmino --> Aguero (-4) if positive news on the latter. If not, Camarasa -> Sané (-4) and hold Firmino for BGW.

Lots of discussion on Rashford for Barnes or Rondon, but any views on whether Josh King is decent option?

    - Poor fixtures for next two is the main issue, but not so bothered as it gives me less of a bench headache
    - Like Barnes plays both 31 and 33, while Rondon is a doubt
    - Has better fixtures IMO in 31 and 33 out of the 3 (BUR and NEW both at home)
    - Plays Huddersfield in 30
    - On penalties
    - Most braces and double digit points of the 3
    - Highest priced of the three
    - Underlying stats not as strong as Barnes in areas like shots on target, goal attempts and xG

I guess it's a case of sticking to my guns as this was always my intended move this week (have Son also), any merit in this or sort out the flags?

Are people who are playing FH in GW32 using their FTs before Blank GW31 only to bring in players who have a fixture that week? Or getting other players in before then who have good fixtures, knowing they will blank in GW31?

Which would then mean taking gets to get a full eleven in GW31, or fielding say, just 8-9 players.

Not sure I can live on a diet of Burnley, Newcastle and Leicester players for the next four weeks.

I had 8 GW31 players after Chelsea lost to Man U and added Pereira for AWB on Friday. So sitting with 9 GW players and 3 transfers to come before then.

For people who are doing FH31, how are you using other chips, and how are you dealing with GW32-33 where lots of the DGW players blank the following week?

Do injured players attend training? Driving to training doesn't mean physically training

“ ... Do injured players attend training? ...”. Yup, you still go to team meetings if you’re not long-term. Rehab is also typically co-located.

Rondon considering my personal circumstances, however for a better answer you would have to contextualise yours.

OK, Rashford getting injured threw a curve ball into my GW31 build plans. Essentially I'd have to take an additional hit between now and then. At present I have a forward line of Lacazette, Rashford, and Jimenez. What it boiled down to was either me ignoring the Rashford transfer out and gw31 planning remains as-is and save additional hits, or making the switch now. There's a good case that the Rondon fad is worth capitalising on. Another arguementis that Arnautović is a better mid-term option and he has better fixtures compared to Rondon. I've opted for switching Rashford with Rondon this GW and will switch Lacazette for Arnautović GW29 or 30. Jimenez is going nowhere.

... Thus opting for the addtional hit in GW31 planning.

i think given your circumstances rondon was the right pick mate... given you already have a premium fwd in lacazette... i've gone aguero (in order to avoid the pending rashford price drop and possible aguero rise) and just going to pray he starts... i mean he is a good fwd to have until 31 anyway... and moving forward my transfers will be focussed on stacking up for GW31

Any reason to spend my FT (0.1itb) for gw28? No City is a little worrisome.

    Robbo, Doherty, Bednarek
    Salah(c), Son, Pogba, Anderson, Hazard
    Jimenez, Rondon

Auba & Holebas to Aguero & Robertson worth a -4? Got exact cash to do it before the Auba price drop and currently have no Liverpool defenders nor any City players at all.

      Fabs IMO
City could be tired and have historically looked far less effective attacking when Fernandinho is out

Looks like going to lose .3m in team value with Rashford Auba and Hazard falling in price. Can understand Rashford but Auba great fixture and Hazard plays both blank weeks.......

Surely it’s people just getting rid due to the bench Re. Aubameyang so why worry? Hazard under Sarri is not a bad option but I would pick at least 5/6 other players ahead of him atm
