Fantasy Premier League managers are faced with a much easier captaincy decision for Gameweek 28 compared to last week.

With Manchester City and Chelsea now back in action, Arsenal’s starting XI easier to predict and Liverpool facing more favourable opposition, there are considerably more clear cut options.

As per usual, we have assessed the key candidates from the poll for their own statistical performance of late, cross-comparing how their teams and opposition have done over the same period.

Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) has shaken off some early competition from Sergio Aguero (£11.6m) to pull away in the latest captain poll. Ahead of Watford’s visit to Anfield, the Liverpool man has garnered the support of 40% of the vote. That is hardly surprising considering Salah’s scoring record against Watford, having found the net six times in three Premier League matches. The Egyptian has also blanked at home just once since Gameweek 19.

Currently occupying second place in the poll is Manchester City striker Aguero. After running Salah close in the early hours of the vote, is now backed by just 18%. The case for the Argentinian is easy to understand after back-to-back home hat-tricks in Gameweeks 26 and 27, ahead of West Ham’s visit to the Etihad Stadium. What may be putting Fantasy managers off is his 120-minute outing for the Citizens in Sunday’s League Cup final.

A benching for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) in Gameweek 27 has certainly put the masses off the Arsenal striker for the midweek visit of Bournemouth to the Emirates Stadium. At the time of writing, he has the backing of just 15%, despite the fact that he has scored or assisted in every home match he has started against sides outside the top six since Gameweek 12.

A tenth Premier League goal of the season for Raúl Jiménez (£6.8m) at the Vitality Stadium has helped him to become the best of the rest in the Gameweek 28 captain poll. The Wolves forward has the backing of 5% ahead of a trip to Huddersfield.

Richarlison (£6.6m) makes a surprise appearance in the top five despite his recent disappointment for Fantasy managers. 2.65% of our voters believe handing the captain armband to the Everton man for a trip to Cardiff could pay dividends. That may well be influenced by the 5-1 drubbing Watford handed out at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday evening.

Raheem Sterling (£11.3m) is another Manchester City option suffering in the captain poll as a result of the League Cup final. The England international also played 120 minutes on Sunday which could jeopardise his chances of starting against West Ham. For that reason, he is currently only seen as the best captain for Gameweek 28 by 2.38% of our voters.

He is marginally ahead of Paul Pogba (£8.8m) this week as a stricken Manchester United side prepare to travel to Crystal Palace. The Frenchman played a slightly deeper role against Liverpool, with Nemanja Matic (£5.0m) missing out, and the concern over that has been borne out in just 2.34% backing in the poll.

Alexander Lacazette (£9.5m) is still around to play a part in the captain conversation after missing Thursday night’s Europa League action through suspension and scoring against Southampton. 2.3% of our voters believe he is the best candidate ahead of Bournemouth’s trip to north London.

Leroy Sané‘s (£9.5m) lack of heavy involvement in the League Cup final makes him one of the most likely starters for Manchester City on Wednesday night, hence why he has managed to get a place in the top 10 of the poll. 1.6% are brave enough to call on him for the armband, just ahead of Harry Kane (£12.4m) who has the backing of 1.2% ahead of a trip to Chelsea and Stamford Bridge.

All this Barnes and Rondon talk is getting me crazy. Considering them for Rashford, although I have enough itb to go straight Agüero.

depends on what your longer term plans are. If you think you'll need cash then getting one of Rondon/Barnes could serve you well. Kun is obviously in form, but always a rotation risk. If you have a strong bench to cope though, kun could definitely be worth it.

  7. Jayv807

been burned last couple of weeks by having no bench players. With Rashford and AWB injured, Kamara out of the league and Sterling on ongoing rotation worry, I decided to do Rashford/Kamara to Jimenez/Rondon for a hit to strengthen my squad.

Problem is now, who to bench? Leaning towards Jota since he has been a bit rubbish the last two weeks.

    Etheridge
    Robbo, Pereira, Jonny
    Salah, Sterling, Mane, Pogba
    Auba, Jimenez, Rondon

    Guaita, Jota, Bednarek, AWB

Set Pieces tab hasn't been updated for 3 weeks (and it wasn't quite spot on at that time anyway). E.g.,

I believe Barnes took the last two pens for Burnley (2nd and 9th February). Though Wood wasn't on the pitch for the first of those, he was on a hattrick for the second, but let Barnes take it regardless. There may be other Burnley examples I've missed. Let me know. It's not impossible they'll share duties, of course, but I think that's enough evidence to place Barnes as #1 for now.

Kamara is still listed as second in-line to take pens for Fulham, but he left for China before the last update.

Wilson and Stanislas are injured, so I was wondering if there is any more information about potential penalty takers at Bournemouth if King isn't on the pitch? Likewise, Fulham only have Mitrovic. Hudderfield only have Mooy, really, as Lowe isn't nailed. Palace only have Mili, as Benteke and Wickham don't play too much. Southampton only have Austin, who's not been playing much, as Ings is out. Spurs only have Kane, but have apparently been going without any penalty takers while he and Alli have been out and Lamela not on the pitch. And this is all without looking at freekicks.

I understand it's not easy to predict some of these things, but it would be appreciated if it were looked into, since it seems to be glossed over rather than fully maintained, like Team News is, for example.

Feel free to share any useful info or opinions you might have about set piece takers, here, to help 'em out.

Have exact money to do Rash + AWB > Higuain + Diop, for -4. Don't like the feel of it, but AWB dropping tonight, which will make that double move out of reach. Would mean Barnes instead.

Definitely approve of your camarasa plans but I’m going to upgrade to fraser once Bournemouth fixtures swap. Planning to take out a fair chunk of midfield for the blanks and will have loads of cash. Otherwise would definitely be on hayden (worry about mcneil with brady and Gudmundsson lurking).

Button to boruc is sensible, though, will think on that.

      I'm in the same situation
Leaning towards B due to Arnie start not being 100% certain and he doesn't have an amazing history vs. City (2 goals in 9 appearances I think)
I'm sure he'll score when he's on my bench though!

Just got Barnes in for Rashford only for RMT to tell me to bench Barnes.

    Oops

That's ok, you bought him for more than one week...also RMT said I'd get more than 40 points this week so occasionally it is wrong.

RMT is ridiculous. Fanderson was 3rd best last week after doing nothing much in several weeks

I wish I knew for sure Laca starts this match. It's only for 1 GW then switching to Higuain for the run into the blanks. But it's an Arsenal striker at home to that shocking Bournemouth defence, or a blank/cameo. Such a huge difference.

he won't rest him, he needs to play in the league games coming up. He can rest during european nights

You would think so, but Emery is unpredictable. The Spurs game is only a few days later so that would mean 3 games in a week for Laca, which is the exact reason Emery just gave for not playing Auba last game. I don't think Laca is a lock to start. Of course if he was in my team already I'd leave him, but it will be a transfer in.

You would think this is true, but you never know. Iwobi, Aubameyang, Ozil, Mikhitaryan, Ramsey, Lacazette, Suarez vying for 3-4 spots. Could always see Laca coming on at half time or something. You can't be sure with Emery, but I expect him to start.

Exactly my thinking. I expect him to start, but to actually spend my FT on it is risky. I do want Arsenal attack for this game though. I think they're going to put a hatful past Bournemouth missing key players and away from home, where they've been dreadful. So it's Laca for free or Auba (-4). I can't decide.

Still don't get the Higuain love based on Huddersfield rout. Benched against Malmo and consolation injury time run out on LC. Punt vs Fulham?

It's all about fixtures mate. The Huddersfield game is exactly why I'm interested. Couldn't care less about what he does in tough fixtures because he won't have any when he's in my team. Fulham is a hat-trick in the making for a predator like him. Then Wolves, Everton, West Ham surrounding the potential double (which I'll be free hitting so doesn't matter either way). Goals to be had.

Yeah, a big blow. Unfortunately, it's a case of live by the sword die by the sword. I've made so many transfers like this all season and on aggregate I'm ahead by an absolute mile, so I'm trying to think big picture. I feel pretty unlucky having owned Deulofeu for ages for no rewards at all, but that's the game. I lost faith in him and be burned me.

One of my best seasons I was quite aggressive with transfers but they paid off massively. Hasn't worked always. Good luck though. Those Deu points would've had you right in the mix but plenty of weeks left

Want to just think about future gw and do Auba -> Kun before another price swing.
