Fantasy Premier League managers are faced with a much easier captaincy decision for Gameweek 28 compared to last week.

With Manchester City and Chelsea now back in action, Arsenal’s starting XI easier to predict and Liverpool facing more favourable opposition, there are considerably more clear cut options.

As per usual, we have assessed the key candidates from the poll for their own statistical performance of late, cross-comparing how their teams and opposition have done over the same period.

Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) has shaken off some early competition from Sergio Aguero (£11.6m) to pull away in the latest captain poll. Ahead of Watford’s visit to Anfield, the Liverpool man has garnered the support of 40% of the vote. That is hardly surprising considering Salah’s scoring record against Watford, having found the net six times in three Premier League matches. The Egyptian has also blanked at home just once since Gameweek 19.

Currently occupying second place in the poll is Manchester City striker Aguero. After running Salah close in the early hours of the vote, is now backed by just 18%. The case for the Argentinian is easy to understand after back-to-back home hat-tricks in Gameweeks 26 and 27, ahead of West Ham’s visit to the Etihad Stadium. What may be putting Fantasy managers off is his 120-minute outing for the Citizens in Sunday’s League Cup final.

A benching for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) in Gameweek 27 has certainly put the masses off the Arsenal striker for the midweek visit of Bournemouth to the Emirates Stadium. At the time of writing, he has the backing of just 15%, despite the fact that he has scored or assisted in every home match he has started against sides outside the top six since Gameweek 12.

A tenth Premier League goal of the season for Raúl Jiménez (£6.8m) at the Vitality Stadium has helped him to become the best of the rest in the Gameweek 28 captain poll. The Wolves forward has the backing of 5% ahead of a trip to Huddersfield.

Richarlison (£6.6m) makes a surprise appearance in the top five despite his recent disappointment for Fantasy managers. 2.65% of our voters believe handing the captain armband to the Everton man for a trip to Cardiff could pay dividends. That may well be influenced by the 5-1 drubbing Watford handed out at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday evening.

Raheem Sterling (£11.3m) is another Manchester City option suffering in the captain poll as a result of the League Cup final. The England international also played 120 minutes on Sunday which could jeopardise his chances of starting against West Ham. For that reason, he is currently only seen as the best captain for Gameweek 28 by 2.38% of our voters.

He is marginally ahead of Paul Pogba (£8.8m) this week as a stricken Manchester United side prepare to travel to Crystal Palace. The Frenchman played a slightly deeper role against Liverpool, with Nemanja Matic (£5.0m) missing out, and the concern over that has been borne out in just 2.34% backing in the poll.

Alexander Lacazette (£9.5m) is still around to play a part in the captain conversation after missing Thursday night’s Europa League action through suspension and scoring against Southampton. 2.3% of our voters believe he is the best candidate ahead of Bournemouth’s trip to north London.

Leroy Sané‘s (£9.5m) lack of heavy involvement in the League Cup final makes him one of the most likely starters for Manchester City on Wednesday night, hence why he has managed to get a place in the top 10 of the poll. 1.6% are brave enough to call on him for the armband, just ahead of Harry Kane (£12.4m) who has the backing of 1.2% ahead of a trip to Chelsea and Stamford Bridge.

I bought AWB at 4.0 now his SV is 4.3 but dropping tonight
    A. Sell him now for -4 as i would be anyway hitting for GW31 to field 11
    B. Take the drop now and wait to see if he plays GW33 and hold him in that case

he is cheap enough to sit on your bench and wait for news, provided you have playing bench players in your squad.

Have a similar dilemma. Have to sell AWB or Bennett before GW31, otherwise will be fielding fewer than 11 that week.

Bennet has 2 decent fixtures coming up, so maybe it's time to wish Obi Wan farewell for now.

My defence is TAA Robertson Doherty AWB Bed....and i have 5 players for GW31....so need to take few hits anyway.....i was thinking LEI def or NEW but NEW not sure of GW33 match

Newcastle are better defensively. It's a risk they might blank, but Leicester are a sieve at the moment.

Depends if I want to get Higuain now before AWB drops, which would mean Zaba/Diop for -4.

If I target a forward line of King-Barnes-Arnie for GW31, plus Sterling > Hazard, then I could get pretty much anyone

Look to prepare for BGW31 - maybe ditch Ashford for Rondon/Barnes depending on Man Utd presser tomorrow. Rest looks good to this week though.

If Aguero is 'confirmed' to be playing, and I've already done Rashford --> Rondon / Barnes, which option would you do? (View to stock up for BGW31)...

    A) Firmino --> Aguero [Ditching a BGW player but more funds to play around with until then]

    B) Kamara --> Aguero [Less flexibility up until GW31]

    Salah (c) -- Pogba -- Son -- Anderson -- Camarasa
    Firmino* -- Rashford* -- Kamara [1FT + 5.8m ITB]

i'd probably go with B out of those options. Kun vs West Ham at home could pay off. I couldn't get Kun without a -8 or I had to drop Auba, which I am too stubborn to do now that I have held him this long....

Thanks -> Could make juggling things around in GW29 and GW30 a pain with little to no funds left over, mind you. But Firmino would stay in the side.

So stats comparison using members’ tool is telling me Rondon > Barnes > Vardy

I was hoping Vardy could be the differential I’m looking for but the stats aren’t lying. Vardy even at his best returns a goal here and there. I think I’m convincing myself not to risk it...

In fairness Leicester have been up against Liverpool, Spurs and Man U in the last 4. I'm very tempted by Vardy, will watch this next game and evaluate

I hate going for more expensive differentials. It makes me feel even worse when it doesn't work out knowing I could have gotten a bargain player who is scoring more and have cash for elsewhere.

Does it really say Rondon is better than Barnes though? Did you read all the stats or just look at which player had a + sign?

      1. Don Kloppeone
        • 8 Years
        7 years, 18 days ago

I read every stat and on balance that’s how it looked. Obviously lots of ups and downs but overall that’s how it looked for the usual key stats

It’s really such a hard decision.

Perhaps I should be guided more by the fact that Vardy would require a -4 whereas Barnes/ Rondon will be free

Just watching Rondon in any game that isn't Huddersfield with 10 men is enough to put me off him

Personally gut is telling me either Barnes or Vardy

The Vardy move also moves on Jota which helps relieve me of my Wolves triple up which is now too much

I got Barnes in for him as he looks good for 2 or 3 goals by the time 33 comes around, he fits into my team rotation do that I can easily bench him when he plays Liverpool and he's guaranteed to play 33 unlike Rondon

            Just went for Barnes

Now have a headache on who to play out of:
            Barnes (new)
            Jota (hud)
            JWP (FUL)

        7 years, 18 days ago

I guess we can read the stats differently. It’s v close between them. For me my gut puts Barnes above Rondon so it’s prob between Barnes and Vardy

Yes imo except for the fact that he has no game in 31 and 33

Need help deciding between these two:

    A) Aguero + Hayden
    B) Sterling + Rondon

Inevitably whichever you pick will be wrong. I went Kun + Rondon. Waiting for Kun benching.

So as it stands, which teams are guaranteed a fixture in Gameweek 31 and 33 and which teams have a possibility of playing in both depending on FA cup results?

Is Firmino, Rashford & Son to Aguero, Vardy & Almiron for -8 crazy?

Wood v Newcastle away (got 3 goals in the last 2 games)
Jota v Huddersfield away (nothing and seems to barely last 60 mins)

Do you have no WC left? That's only reason I can see for FH31 and even then 33 better

I have a WC. This GW was proof that I don’t want to fill my team with GW 31 dross. Still 3 gameweeks where I can maximise transfers. I have a good amount for 33- Arsenal and Everton assets for example

This GW was proof that using FH in 31 to get 11 is horrible waste and how many will you have for 33? I'll have 7-8 for 31 and keep all my best players that blank

Better teams playing in 31 IMO with better fixtures than this week.

7 so far for GW 33. Can get 10 for a hit.

I’m also keeping my players that blank for 32. Like most of have the main assets for 32 anyway IMO

I've swapped between them a few times, I've had both for ages and have already got it the wrong way round quite a few times this season - probably Salah this week.

Salah seems the safe bet but i just keep thinking about Aubameyang being rested at the weekend aswell as his great home form and Bournemouth being dreadful away!!

Its a tough decision, when it's difficult I normally just go for the most expensive of the two as I don't feel so bad when I get it wrong.

Yeah this is very true I just wonder the effect the match against United may have on Liverpool and Watford should be buoyant and more rested after a thinking win on Friday night

Last one before bed....Which is better?
    A) Rashford > Vardy this week
    & Richarlison > Maddison/F.Anderson/Fraser following week

    OR

    B) Rashford > Rondon this week
& Richarlison > Mane following week

    OR

    C) Rashford > Barnes this week
& Richarlison > Hazard following week
