Fantasy Premier League managers are faced with a much easier captaincy decision for Gameweek 28 compared to last week.

With Manchester City and Chelsea now back in action, Arsenal’s starting XI easier to predict and Liverpool facing more favourable opposition, there are considerably more clear cut options.

As per usual, we have assessed the key candidates from the poll for their own statistical performance of late, cross-comparing how their teams and opposition have done over the same period.

Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) has shaken off some early competition from Sergio Aguero (£11.6m) to pull away in the latest captain poll. Ahead of Watford’s visit to Anfield, the Liverpool man has garnered the support of 40% of the vote. That is hardly surprising considering Salah’s scoring record against Watford, having found the net six times in three Premier League matches. The Egyptian has also blanked at home just once since Gameweek 19.

Currently occupying second place in the poll is Manchester City striker Aguero. After running Salah close in the early hours of the vote, is now backed by just 18%. The case for the Argentinian is easy to understand after back-to-back home hat-tricks in Gameweeks 26 and 27, ahead of West Ham’s visit to the Etihad Stadium. What may be putting Fantasy managers off is his 120-minute outing for the Citizens in Sunday’s League Cup final.

A benching for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) in Gameweek 27 has certainly put the masses off the Arsenal striker for the midweek visit of Bournemouth to the Emirates Stadium. At the time of writing, he has the backing of just 15%, despite the fact that he has scored or assisted in every home match he has started against sides outside the top six since Gameweek 12.

A tenth Premier League goal of the season for Raúl Jiménez (£6.8m) at the Vitality Stadium has helped him to become the best of the rest in the Gameweek 28 captain poll. The Wolves forward has the backing of 5% ahead of a trip to Huddersfield.

Richarlison (£6.6m) makes a surprise appearance in the top five despite his recent disappointment for Fantasy managers. 2.65% of our voters believe handing the captain armband to the Everton man for a trip to Cardiff could pay dividends. That may well be influenced by the 5-1 drubbing Watford handed out at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday evening.

Raheem Sterling (£11.3m) is another Manchester City option suffering in the captain poll as a result of the League Cup final. The England international also played 120 minutes on Sunday which could jeopardise his chances of starting against West Ham. For that reason, he is currently only seen as the best captain for Gameweek 28 by 2.38% of our voters.

He is marginally ahead of Paul Pogba (£8.8m) this week as a stricken Manchester United side prepare to travel to Crystal Palace. The Frenchman played a slightly deeper role against Liverpool, with Nemanja Matic (£5.0m) missing out, and the concern over that has been borne out in just 2.34% backing in the poll.

Alexander Lacazette (£9.5m) is still around to play a part in the captain conversation after missing Thursday night’s Europa League action through suspension and scoring against Southampton. 2.3% of our voters believe he is the best candidate ahead of Bournemouth’s trip to north London.

Leroy Sané‘s (£9.5m) lack of heavy involvement in the League Cup final makes him one of the most likely starters for Manchester City on Wednesday night, hence why he has managed to get a place in the top 10 of the poll. 1.6% are brave enough to call on him for the armband, just ahead of Harry Kane (£12.4m) who has the backing of 1.2% ahead of a trip to Chelsea and Stamford Bridge.

        Transfers done this week
        So 4 left over 3 weeks, just got to figure the order

        Laca Sterling Son and Stephens to

        Higuain Hazard Fraser and Almiron
        As is stands now that would leave 1.9 itb any better suggestions for these final moves?

    hey guys, still undecided by what to do with this lot. 2 FT and 0.9 ITB, all chips still to play.

    Fab, Stek
    Robbo Doherty Bamba Pereira AWB
    Salah Pogba Son Jota Camarasa
    Rash Jim Auba

    a. Rash + Son for Kun + 5.6M midfield
    b. Auba + Rash for Kun + Rondon/Barnes
    c. Rash + Jota for Rondon + 8.5M
    d. Get rid of Bamba + AWB for 2 BGW defenders (Matip + Evans maybe)
    c. Any suggestions how best to use my 2FT?

      Jimmy is a legend. So much cash made on him I have to keep him through 31
      And the points keep coming in.
      But captain material I am not sure.
      However the fixture is great and having never scored away this season he has done so in the last 2 away games.

      Firmino isn’t going to play against Watford IMO. I’d be shocked if he did. Left Old Trafford on crutches. Rashford’s ankle isn’t that great either, and I’d be surprised if he played too. United can’t afford any more injuries. Look at Barnes or Rondon

    When Fernandinho was injured in December City gone through a bad spell. So teams that did not carried City player's got huge green arrows.

      I’m hoping that’s not the case. Also City had some key injuries that time Kun/Jesus, D.Silva, KDB & Dinho.
      The squad is in much better shape atm.

          Good side up until GW31 anyway. changing players to accommodate that week can backfire. I think 9/10 players will be enough. Trouble is, what frame of mind will Chelsea/Leicester players be in for that week.

            yeah, I don't want to get Bournemouth players now just because they play in 31. I would rather max points and hope my ML leader makes a stupid decision. It nearly paid off last week when he went Anderson(c). Pity I went Son(c).

            🙁

    Having a shocking run and team* is all lit up with flags. Plan is FH32, WC34 - think a -4 is required to get 11 out this week and in 31.

    A) Ings & Rashford -> Rondon & Vardy/Higuain (-4)
    B) Son & Ings -> Hazard & Rondon (-4)
    C) Holebas & Ings -> Robbo & Barnes (-4) [0.1 short of Rondon]
    D) Camarasa & Ings -> Maddison & Rondon (-4)

    Fabianksi
    Kolasinac, TAA, Doherty, Pereira
    Salah, Siggy, Son
    Auba, Rashford*, Ings*

    Steele*, FAnderson, Camarasa*, Holebas*
    Bank 2.5m, 1FT

      A, with Higuain. I think they are the most explosive options.

        Hey Kiwi, who would you bench out of these 3

        Bednarek
        Arnie
        Duffy

      C and it's not close. I prefer Barnes to Rondon anyway.

        I think it's close between those 2 but Rondon's fixtures look better:

        Rondon (BUR, whu, EVE, bou, CPL)
        Barnes (new, CPL, liv, LEI, bou)

        You think LIV get clean sheets for WAT and eve? Both teams can't defend at all, but they're not bad going forward.

          Liverpool still have the highest % chance of a clean sheet this week (based on betting odds) - they have the best defence this season and Robertson is the best FPL asset in their defence. He should set the record for FPL points for a defender this season. Anything can happen in the Everton derby.

          Barnes has the guaranteed fixture in GW33 and his underlying stats (xG and xA) are better than Rondon, but both have good stats.

            All good points, thanks. I already have TAA though and I just have a feeling LIV will concede in at least one of the 28/29 games. 30 and 31 look much safer for clean sheets imo.

            If Firmino is out that does dent the LIV attack though, which makes Mane less attractive.

            I think Ings -> Rondon/Barnes is a must this week. And then it's either:

            A) Holebas -> Robbo
            B) Rashford -> Vardy/Higuain (favourite if Rashford is out for more than 1 week)
            C) Son -> Mane/Hazard

    Alisson
    Alonso Doherty Digne Kolasinac
    Salah Hazard Son Pogba
    King Jimenez

    Guaita Rashford* Kiko Gunnarson

    Both Kun and Sterling playing 120 minutes got me second guessing my transfers, best way to go?

    A) Hazard to Sterling
    B) Hazard, Rashford to Groß, Aguero -4
    C) Save and do either next week

    Cheers

      It's an easy C for me. If Rashford is ruled out for more than 1 GW then I'd switch him to Vardy/Higuain (if you can afford), otherwise Rondon/Barnes.

    Please stop all the scaremongering about city rotation. we know its inevitable (even with Kun/Sterling as well)

    Id be happy if Kun starts 2 out of next 3 games. Can do more damage than any other forward who plays 3 matches.

    Next 3- WHU bou WAT
