Fantasy Premier League managers are faced with a much easier captaincy decision for Gameweek 28 compared to last week.

With Manchester City and Chelsea now back in action, Arsenal’s starting XI easier to predict and Liverpool facing more favourable opposition, there are considerably more clear cut options.

As per usual, we have assessed the key candidates from the poll for their own statistical performance of late, cross-comparing how their teams and opposition have done over the same period.

Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) has shaken off some early competition from Sergio Aguero (£11.6m) to pull away in the latest captain poll. Ahead of Watford’s visit to Anfield, the Liverpool man has garnered the support of 40% of the vote. That is hardly surprising considering Salah’s scoring record against Watford, having found the net six times in three Premier League matches. The Egyptian has also blanked at home just once since Gameweek 19.

Currently occupying second place in the poll is Manchester City striker Aguero. After running Salah close in the early hours of the vote, is now backed by just 18%. The case for the Argentinian is easy to understand after back-to-back home hat-tricks in Gameweeks 26 and 27, ahead of West Ham’s visit to the Etihad Stadium. What may be putting Fantasy managers off is his 120-minute outing for the Citizens in Sunday’s League Cup final.

A benching for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) in Gameweek 27 has certainly put the masses off the Arsenal striker for the midweek visit of Bournemouth to the Emirates Stadium. At the time of writing, he has the backing of just 15%, despite the fact that he has scored or assisted in every home match he has started against sides outside the top six since Gameweek 12.

A tenth Premier League goal of the season for Raúl Jiménez (£6.8m) at the Vitality Stadium has helped him to become the best of the rest in the Gameweek 28 captain poll. The Wolves forward has the backing of 5% ahead of a trip to Huddersfield.

Richarlison (£6.6m) makes a surprise appearance in the top five despite his recent disappointment for Fantasy managers. 2.65% of our voters believe handing the captain armband to the Everton man for a trip to Cardiff could pay dividends. That may well be influenced by the 5-1 drubbing Watford handed out at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday evening.

Raheem Sterling (£11.3m) is another Manchester City option suffering in the captain poll as a result of the League Cup final. The England international also played 120 minutes on Sunday which could jeopardise his chances of starting against West Ham. For that reason, he is currently only seen as the best captain for Gameweek 28 by 2.38% of our voters.

He is marginally ahead of Paul Pogba (£8.8m) this week as a stricken Manchester United side prepare to travel to Crystal Palace. The Frenchman played a slightly deeper role against Liverpool, with Nemanja Matic (£5.0m) missing out, and the concern over that has been borne out in just 2.34% backing in the poll.

Alexander Lacazette (£9.5m) is still around to play a part in the captain conversation after missing Thursday night’s Europa League action through suspension and scoring against Southampton. 2.3% of our voters believe he is the best candidate ahead of Bournemouth’s trip to north London.

Leroy Sané‘s (£9.5m) lack of heavy involvement in the League Cup final makes him one of the most likely starters for Manchester City on Wednesday night, hence why he has managed to get a place in the top 10 of the poll. 1.6% are brave enough to call on him for the armband, just ahead of Harry Kane (£12.4m) who has the backing of 1.2% ahead of a trip to Chelsea and Stamford Bridge.

Wildcarded this week. Decided it last week. Chasing in my money league and wanted to do something different. I quite like this, the game has been very annoying for me this season. Some not so good decisions and a lot of bad luck. Haven't really enjoyed the game since Xmas.

    Team looks like this:

    Ederson

    Robbo TAA Pereira Maguire
    Salah Sterling Pogba
    Aguero Jimenez Barnes

    Boruc Fraser Hayden Diop

Chip strategy is Free Hit 32. I might even BB in 30 as everyone except Barnes (pool) has a favourable match up and should play. TC in 35 probably.

    Thoughts / comments?

Don’t like x2 lei defence, will also be a bit trickier navigating the blanks - still need a few more players imo

Leicester play in 31 & 33. But yea, it's a bit risky. I really like their fixtures. Might go Maddison over Fraser somehow as I am looking to buy Wilson/King in couple weeks in for Jimenez.

Thoughts on Mane over Sterling? (would mean no TAA)

Is Salah really the best captaincy option? Looked completely lost yesterday. Even got outpaced and tackled by an injured Mata.

Hmm I just noticed I could do Rash to Vardy for free with one ft and do not have much value tied to Rash.

    1FT.

    A) Save (play Digne)
    B) Rash to Vardy (play Vardy)
    C) Rash to Barnes (save money)

    Etheridge
    Robbo TAA Doherty Digne (Awb)
    Salah Haz Son Pogba (Anderson)
    Jimenez Rondon (Rash)

It’s still one GW too early, wait until after wed night & there’s a very good chance he’ll be massively popular - not necessarily because he will return v spurs, Utd more because there’s a good chance of low/no points from city’s big hitters + people will see ful/WOL in haz’s Next 2 followed by no blanks

God I hope this news of Jesus training today (previous pages) is true and he can start on Wednesday.

Would really prefer to be able to save FT this week and then do Auba to Kun next week rather than Anderson Rashford to Fraser Kun this week... decisions decisions.

Made a decision based on next 5 gameweeks, one of which is a blank and 3 of which are not easy games for a team that just got beat by Burnley.

He may score well but those fixtures weren’t appealing enough for me to keep him at the expense of not getting Kun in.

Not sell either this week especially not Son. If Rash out next game and Arnie looking likely I'll consider that move

That’s fair, re:Rashford, and yes if definitive injury news that he’s missing Southampton & arsenal I would then entertain selling...

But sellingin he absence of the news is t something I could bring myself to do, rightly or wrongly

Stirring up the pot? I'll bite.

I agree with Son. Do you know how long Rashford will be out for? Looks to be missing 2 of the next four matches.

The last we saw of him he played 90 mins with this injury, so it’s obviously manageable (albeit it restricts him somewhat)

Until I hear he definitely out for x period he’s going nowhere, this is why we have benches

Selling Son doesnt make any sense. Utter BS.

Agreed - no definitive news on Rashford means he’s a bad sell imo

Not a hope. 2 assists last 11 played vs 9 goals 5 assists. Don't understand why people are selling Son

Peoples thoughts on whether Aguero would have played 120mminutes yesterday if there weren’t plans for him to be rested on Wednesday or Saturday?

He’s regularly taken off around 70mins to protect him?

Different rules in finals I imagine so I don’t think that’s a guide.

I can’t see him getting more than 180 minutes in next 3 games and I haven’t ruled out switching to Kane who looked great and will play 270 minutes

Just after an answer please. I keep reading A. Barnes is a better pick than Rondon but then I look at fplstatistics & Rondon seems the one everyone is buying. Is this because of what Rondon scored last gw or is it that people think Rondon at home is better than A. Barnes away & both play each other this gw. Thoughts & thanks.
