With just nine Gameweeks to go now, it’s time to make that final push up the mini-leagues and overall rankings.

A huge amount of ground can be made up and lost in the ‘30s’ with careful planning and a bit of luck (or bad luck).

Gameweeks 31 to 35, in particular, are going to be fun with two Blanks and two Doubles. Periods like this are why we play FPL.

There is always hope even for those who are enduring a frustrating campaign.

Staying the course and playing the chips and/or Wildcard smartly can reap huge benefits, leaving the current leader of your mini-league in shock come Gameweek 38 when they find themselves slipping to second place having led for most of the season.

Bournemouth are attracting a lot of attention this week ahead of a kind run of fixtures which will see them face Huddersfield (away), Newcastle (home), Leicester (away) and Burnley (home) over the next four.

We don’t usually look to the Cherries for defensive assets but after they restricted Manchester City to just one goal in Gameweek 29, managers are considering if the likes of Arthur Boruc (£4.0m), Adam Smith (£4.3m) and Nathan Aké (£5.0m) are worth investment.

Only Liverpool (nine), Chelsea (seven) and Man City (six) have registered more clean sheets at home than Bournemouth (five) this season.

In their last four games at the Vitality Stadium, Boruc has been beaten on just two occasions.

A Gameweek 30 trip to goal-shy Huddersfield and home ties in 31 and 33 looks good on paper for clean sheets. The question is, will they deliver?

There are plenty of attacking options to consider as well with cases to be made for all four of David Brooks (£5.0m), Ryan Fraser (£6.1m), Josh King (£6.5m) and Callum Wilson (£6.3m).

West Ham midfielder Felipe Anderson (£7.2m) has now blanked in nine of his last 10 appearances, so why keep him just because he plays in the blanks?

I’ve only had him in my side for three weeks and already want to dump him.

Keeping the Brazilian would allow me to field XI players in Gameweek 31 without hits, but selling him could get me Sadio Mané (£9.8m).

The way I’m looking at it is I’d rather own Mané for Liverpool’s Fulham fixture and field ten rather than keep Anderson and play eleven. Food for thought.

Another player who has been disappointing his owners recently is Mohamed Salah (£13.4m). Five blanks in his last six games have managers asking the same question again, is he worth the money?

Selling him ahead of a home game against Burnley and then Fulham away feels like a very dangerous time to ship the Egyptian. He hasn’t been playing badly, he just hasn’t been clinical enough in front of goal.

The chances are falling his way, he’s just hasn’t been putting them away!

It will come as no surprise if he bangs three or four goals in over these next two fixtures. Sell him at your peril.

Romelu Lukaku (£10.7m) scored another brace in Manchester United’s impressive 3-1 win over PSG on Wednesday night to bring his tally to six goals in his last three starts.

He’s making a strong case for inclusion in our squads for Double Gameweek 32 where United will face Watford (home) and Wolves (away). Is he worth the £3.0m more than Marcus Rashford (£7.7m) though? Could a double-up be on the cards?

Former United attacker Wilfried Zaha (£6.9m) is another who is set to be a popular pick for Gameweek 32 if he continues in his rich vein of form.

The Ivorian international has returned attacking points in five of his last six appearances (five goals, one assist).

His partner is crime Michy Batshuayi (£6.5m) is starting to deliver as well, scoring two in his last three.

Captaincy for this weekend seems to be a straight shootout between the Manchester City and Liverpool assets.

Will Salah get back amongst the goals or will Mané outscore him again?

Raheem Sterling (£11.4m) looks good for the armband again this week despite blanking against the Cherries.

For me though, I can’t look past Sergio Aguero (£11.8m) this week with seven goals in his last three home matches. A hat-trick against Watford please, Sergio.

Jamie Vardy (£8.9m) at home to Fulham and Harry Kane (£12.4m) away at Southampton are worth considering as well.

Good luck for the Gameweek folks.

Like many I'm building a 31 team and FHing in 32. Currently have 7, but will probably look to field an XI.
    A) Play Jimenez, but take -8 next week if I want XI.
    B) Get Brooks in for Camarasa, play over Jim and take a -4 each week.
    C) Get Brooks, play Jim and put Brooks on 1st bench duty.

If A, I'll either pick Brooks (for Camarasa) or Azpi (for AWB) for 31 and 33

Do you get more points from holding Pog/Wolves and having better WC/FH players than bring in average people for one/two games and taking hits though?

        1. Jay_
          7 years, 4 months ago

This is it. The FH isn't too bad because you only need XI, it's the WC and potential BB squad that really suffers with low value. Getting a good XV and loading up on Arsenal, City, United, Spurs is hard. At the same time though, I wouldn't call Bournemouth attackers that face NEW, BUR, average.

Depends how you spend the money. Obviously you need to look down the line and decide if you want to continue to own players like Pogba or Jimenez. Just don't think there is any need to stubbornly hold on to a player simply cause you have a lot of value tied up in them. Only 9 GWs left now to move (ideally) up the ranks.

Think I’d be more tempted to lose FAnderson to fund a better incoming defender in a double swap in 31.

Out of those B seems fine to me as long as you want to keep Doc/Jim/Pog (I.e if you wouldn’t get in on WC then no reason to keep).

Nope. His body was in a natural position. I liked Rio Ferdinand's take on it. He was glad the penalty got given but admitted it shouldn't have

Contact w the hand but No penalty to me. I mean, would the referee have given that if it was a world cup final?? or howelse should Kimpembe jump( w his hands on his laps??)

I'd consider myself unbiased on this one and I'd have felt hard done by from PSG's point of view, but his arm was slightly away from his body so it is justifiable. Reminds me a bit of the City penalty against WHU the other week. Very soft in one sense, but within the realms of giveable.

      1. ZimZalabim
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

I think you should try jumping up and down and see how much control u have on your arms and how close to your body you can keep them. His arm is definitely not in an unnatural position, its ball to hand not the other way around, but having said that prem refs are far stricter in these type of decisions. they do get given once in a while but its very harsh when they are given and those are all given without the aid of VAR.

Using VAR and getting these wrong make no sense. VAR is just replacing human error with human error.

        1. Party time
          7 years, 4 months ago

This but in the end it is not the var that decides. The var is there for the referee to review the incident, then the ref decides even if the var suggests A the ref can pick B

i agree with you that why im saying its a flawed system because it hasnt removed the human error factor.

Other sports like Cricket and Tennis have more black and white decisions football rules leave themselves to interpretation and inconsistency which is why it will take a long time before VAR is actually helpful, through years of trial and error.

But the chance of human error decreases if you get to watch an incident several times, and in slow motion, rather than just judging it in real time.

I'm still not sure it did, it looked like it did, but the ball is slightly up in the air, so it's deceptive.

Just an example for Zimza that even with VAR some decisions are still so tight to call.

“I think you should try jumping up and down and see how much control u have on your arms and how close to your body you can keep them. His arm is definitely not in an unnatural position, its ball to hand not the other way around“

Why would such jumping be allowed in football then? What if you just have to jump in a way in which your hands don’t make you a bigger target? He clearly was able to block a larger area with jumping like that, why should this kind of jumping be allowed? If you can’t jump that high with your arms in a more natural position (whatever that means) then why it should be allowed in the first place? It’s a sport played with feet not with “jumping hands”...

What's he doing turning his back on the shot and having him arms out. Not smart.

you see defenders leap all the time to block shots in the box with their arms unnaturally rigid to their sides so they avoid these situations. i think there's an argument that his arm was in a natural position for the leap he was trying to do, but it's a big risk if it wasn't intentional.

    9. HamezMace
      • 12 Years
      7 years, 4 months ago

Unbiased, well except that I'm english.

It's simple - by the laws of the game it's a penalty.

There is a disconnect between people who play, or have played the game, and people who make the rules.

Where I have no sympathy for the defender, he turns his back to the play, so to argue he couldn't see where the ball was being hit is his own fault.

    10. joeydelucchi
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 4 months ago

i just dont think he was deliberately able to stop the ball if the ball is going that fast....slow motion with VAR is making wrong decisions imo

      1. HamezMace
        • 12 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

He's taking the chance by turning his back to the ball, and putting his arms out, it's the last minute of the game, and he's making a desperate attempt to block the shot.
He might not, and probably didn't mean to do it, but anytime someone commits a foul, they probably don't mean to do it, they're probably intending to win the ball genuinely, but fouls happen.

Similar incident at the other end, when Mbappe falls over, and the full back hits the post.
Lindelof on the line, hands behind his back, Smalling covering defender, exactly the same, not natural, but they know the risks.

        1. Party time
          7 years, 4 months ago

Another thing to consider although I did not watch out for this is if the ball was going to be on target. If not why give the penalty? It is good to have Psg out but not being biased. No penalty.

I think the premier league FA have decided to give any ball to hand contact in the box as a penalty from next season, heard this last week

I agree, going for a Bournemouth defender doesn't seem the most sensible option regardless of recent stats, we all know what sort of team they are. Huddersfield will definitely fancy scoring against them this weekend.

Is it worth to sell Poba to aford both Haz and Mane or keep Pogba and get only one of this 2

    currently on 8 for gw31

how's this next week for -4 to give me 10

    sterling + pva > hazard + azpi/luiz (-4)?

makes sense on paper for gw 31 but I would hold sterling for watford at home over getting hazard vs wolves

cool, gives me the following team, don't think I need to take a further -4 to field 11 do you?

        fab
        robbo - azpi - X
        salah - mane - hazard - barnes
        vardy - rondon - chicharito

Probably not given that it’s a defender. Would need a clean sheet to off set the -4. Unless your FH in 32 so bringing in a defender in that plays 31 and 33, the hit would be compensated for by 2 lots of appearance points.

Otherwise team looks good to go for 31.

tbf, I have awb and pva, both of which could have a game in 33 if watford beat palace in the cup

so maybe going for just azpi for the -4 is ample, and continue with 10

Tahith Chong: £4.5m and a bad hair cut. Worth sticking on the bench? Apparently, he should be playing

        He blanks in 31!
Only going to lose 0.2m in value .
Straight back in 32 on FH
Possible blank in 33 then back in on WC in 34.

      2. Must lose a 11 million player for his two blanks specially with the FH32 and WC34 being set up so nicely to have him back when it matters!

Best 8.8 defender combo for 30,31 and 33? (only one will play in 30)

    A) Fredericks, A.Smith
    B) Diop, Mepham
    C) Rice, Schlupp
    D) Other?

Maybe the safest option, but doesnt Fredericks have higher potential than Rice, and Smith > Schlupp? Making A better?

If I didn’t have Fabianski in goal I would get Rice. You want a guaranteed starter plus Rice in MF.

Cheers. Rice might be in midfield, but very defensively. Fredericks seems to be more involved in attack.

I might go Fredericks + Schlupp

Need a goalkeeper for the blanks and maybe this week if Guaita is dropped. It affects one of my moves next week, though not the big ones (Kun and Pog to Hazard and Vardy).

    A) Get Fabianski, which in turn probably means Camarasa to Brooks.
    B) Get Boruc, which in turn probably means AWB to Azpi (or as above).

Many will use it in double GW35 after WC in 34, having everyone on the bench playing twice.

    Afternoon,
    2FT's in the bank.
    Focus on 30 & 31 only...
    A) Pogba & Rash -> Brooks & Vardy
    B) Son & Rash -> Brooks & Vardy
    C) Son & Rash -> Mane & King/Wilson

C would mean Mane & Salah double up.

    Cheers

There is a bit of scaremongering on loosing money at the moment. Main culprits are Wolves assets and Pogba.

I personally aren't too fussed on Wolves involvement in 32.

Doherty has been rotated recently too so what's the chance he gets rotated in his double. I won't be needing him in 30, 31 or 33 so is it worth keeping for an iffy double in 32?

Up top, I've had a brief look, and Lukaku and Aguero seem nailed in 32. I'd throw in Rashford or Zaha as a third striker over Jiminez.

I'm personally keeping Pogba but for those with only 2 Pool, Mane looks a tasty if you shun a defensive double up.

The pool of players to choose from is getting bigger as the season progresses. We don't have to show loyalty to those we've made money on.
