The captain hindsight brigade was out in full force this week to bash the Scoutcasters – among others – for recommending Brighton defender Shane Duffy for the Gameweek 34 armband.

With goal threat and two home games against Bournemouth and Cardiff, it seemed a good call. But with seven goals conceded without reply over this pair of games, reality had other ideas.

Az, Joe and their guest Adam Hopcroft take stock of a less-than-inspiring Double Gameweek, with no regrets about their armband blunder.

For Az and Adam, captaining a player with two fixtures over one had merit, especially in a week with no standout captain elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Joe was looking for another Stephane Sessegnon moment. This refers to the “VE Day”-style celebrations among the Fantasy community back in 2012, when the similarly unlikely Double Gameweek armbandee rifled in an injury-time goal against Reading for Sunderland in the Black Cats’ second match that week. It was so memorable that, almost seven years on, Az even remembers who got the assist during that magical moment.

Aside from assessing their newly deployed Wildcards, the crew also take stock of the community’s questions. The fallout from Troy Deeney’s red card and Mohamed Salah’s return to goalscoring form are among the issues covered.

Coping with rotation among the ranks of Manchester City and Spurs also gets an airing.

The Scoutcast’s latest talking point draws inspiration from the top managers this season, to find out what lessons we can learn from them and what it takes to gain an elite-level overall rank.

The community’s roughest and smoothest moves are looked at, including one of the most shambolic Wildcards of all time.

The crew finish off with a detailed look at their Gameweek 35 clean sheet predictions, differential tips, captaincy calls and transfer plans.

Tis tricky. Wilson in for a similar price bracket could be fine. I had Brighton lads this week who had a double and ended up with 1 each.

One single week player might not be the worst, but having to make up the -4 on a double gw is a good idea

completely disagree about VAR making it better, but that's more to do with the shite rules rather than VAR itself - why anyone would actually want that to be offside is beyond me.

Needs changing to daylight at least imo, I honestly think it was fine as it was - if it's too close for the linesman to call in real time then the attacker isn't gaining any real advantage so play on (can still use VAR to get rid of goals like Azpi's against Cardiff, because that is more 'goal hanging' as the offside rule was invented to stop)

Disagree. I see where he's coming from. It's like there's a certain distance offside where it's 'umpires call' as it is in cricket for lbw reviews.

          • 10 Years

so what's so bad about the daylight rule then? if the attacker isn't getting a clear advantage what is the point in preventing a goal scoring opportunity (he actually passed it to someone else too)? you actually want to see LESS goals? brilliant

          1. SADIO SANÉ
            • 10 Years
            6 years, 7 months ago

also how can I be talking sh!t when it's an opinion based on an ALTERNATIVE rule? one that we used to actually have? it's good to be open minded about things sometimes

It was offside end of, without Var the goal would probably have stood and that would have been the wrong decision.

I agree with this. I'd like VAR to work as it does in American Football - it has to be clear and obvious for VAR to overturn a decision on the field.

        1. SADIO SANÉ
          • 10 Years
          6 years, 7 months ago

yep, I mean the rule was invented to prevent goal hanging, I'd like someone to explain to me how Aguero was goal hanging there? now I'm not saying you should be able to be 20 yards offside, but it being that close is not enough imo

You are either offside or your not, Var means the decision is clear and not reliant on a linesman giving a verdict in real time

              • 10 Years
              6 years, 7 months ago

bit late, went for a run - you're obviously not getting what I'm saying so I'd advise you to read it again - VAR would still be clear (if not clearer) if the rule was 'daylight', just like it used to be - which is a better rule IMO.

Great game, but I thought the opposite on VAR. If Llorente's goal had just been awarded by the ref then whatever.

I dont think so, despite poor CS odds and recent disappointment (I captained him), Duffy still offers a goal threat. I wouldn't take a hit for Boly when Wolves struggle to keep CS themselves.

I see the point, but wolves seem to be good at home, no?

Yeah but not at keeping cleansheets, take it from a long time Pat/Doh owner.

Hey guys whats the best sterling plan for this attack?
      Salah mane son eriksen fraser
      Vardy rondon arnie
      1ft 0.3itb
Was thinking arnie to jiminez for this week and bench rondon.
How and when to fit in sterling though.

Hope Haz gets rested somewhat tomorrow. An injury would make it too easy to get Sterling.

I prefer Hazard against Burnley than Sterling this week tbh

Given up so I’m taking a -12: Maddison, Pogba, Vardy to Sterling, Son and King. Need a Fabianski masterclass. On BB.

Maybe. Not really bothered anyway. Doubt can make top 10k (19k). Can’t win MLs.
