The third instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Charity Cup takes place today.

Following the success of the first two competitions in February and November 2018, which featured around 80 players and raised over £2,000 for the Melanoma Research Foundation and for Campaign Against Living Miserably, this time we’ll be raising money for the Stroke Association.

Most of you will know that Joe, a much-loved member of FFS and the wider Fantasy Football community, recently suffered a bleed on his brain. Thankfully, after a fairly hellish month, he is gradually returning to normal.

The Charity Cup will be held this morning at Whittington Park Astro Pitch in London linked here, meeting at 9:15 am to finalise teams etc.

The full address is Holloway Road, Islington, London N19 4RS. The closest Tube station is Archway on the Northern Line (8min walk) and the closest London Overground station is Upper Holloway (2min walk).

As always, the precise format (including squad sizes) will depend on numbers but everyone will get decent game-time in a 7 or 8 aside format.

This is real-life football (not an FPL online cup!) with players of all ages, fitness and abilities very welcome.

As with previous tournaments, we’ll be organising players into squads, so you don’t need to round up a team yourself, although feel free to invite guest players to boost the numbers.

If you would like to take part please email peter.kouwenberg76@gmail.com with your contact details and you will be added to the WhatsApp group for further information (unless you state that you would rather receive information by separate email only).

Even if you are not able to play, please donate to the Stroke Association at the Just Giving page which is linked here.

I definitely want KDB in my team for the majority of the season but is anyone else a little hesitant to go with him from the start? My strategy this year is value and balance and an alternating Salah/Sterling captaincy. He'd be a great vc for when pep pulls a pep and benches sterling. My concern is match fitness, possibility of a deep role and fixtures not being meh. Thoughts?

Looked good in pre season, I have him in, but I don't have sterling

Looks a good alternative namely for the first two GWs, but difficult to fit in with Salah Sterling strong defence etc, in my opinion.

Wilson can offer more value I think

        I think I've managed..

        Ederson Button
        TAA VVD Digne Zinchenko Kelly
        Salah Sterling Perez Rich/Siggy Dendoncker
        Deulofeu King Greenwood

If you have salah & sterling along with kdb, that will more then likely hinder any chance of getting another premium.

I would like to see if he plays deeper or in a more advanced role in the league. I fear the recent training matches against Asian teams havent really showcased much of how City will really look in midfield because of the poor quality of opposition allows KDB to roam further forward.

My whole strategy is not spending big money on players I never intent to captain and balancing the rest evenly. That's why I'm going without Kane. But in my opinion 9.5 is a steal player for KDB. Guarantees you returns, often explosive and in my opinion, the best player in the league (Liverpool fan)

Hi mates. Feedback on this team pls? Is this KDB + Sterling alternative viable, in your view?

    KDB, Salah, Sterling, Perez, Robinson

    Cheers!

Whose Robinson or shouldn't I ask? What's the bench? Any spare cash to play with as difficult to give a good opinion without all the facts.

Robinson is a SHU 5.5 mid playing OOP during pre-season (upfront). Feels a decent enabler to fit in KDB along with Salah and Sterling.

Bench is Kelly Lundstram and Greenwood.

        Another alternative would be:

        Ryan
        Coleman, TAA, Robertson, Zinchenko
        Salah, Sterling, Perez, KDB
        King, Deulofeu

        Button, Lundstram, Dendoncker, Greenwood

        Cheers mate

Has anyone done an FPL Draft so far? How big should your watchlist be to avoid panic during the auction?

Work out how many players will be drafted in total, break it down by position. Identify the best (say 60) defenders, rank them as As, Bs and Cs. Allow for any flexibility in formation, so find the best 65 defenders say. Delete eveyone else from your list.

      1. Chandler Bing
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 1 day ago

That's an interesting (and probably much better) approach. I only had like 70 players in total for now. But that was just me choosing players I like from the full batch. Looks like I'd need to look more into the bottom half sides as well.

Yes you do, you won't get everyone you want, it isn't like the FPL candy shop, you can make a difference by identifying the hidden gems in the lower half of the league. For the major names, we all know who they are and it is somewhat luck how they perform over the season and how many games they miss.

          Don't listen to Mendy.

I've done a few and I don't prefer keeping a watchlist. It results in panic if players in your watchlist are snapped away, especially when the number of participants are more than 6 or 7. Just go with the flow.

Tottenham play City and Arsenal away within GW4. City face just Tottenham out of the top 6 in the first 6 GWs. And you won't argue against City putting 3 or 4 past Tottenham at home.

What’s the scoop on JWP dudes?

Is he still flying way under the FFS groupthink radar?

He’s started 18 of the last 19 premier league games under hasssenhutl

He’s scored 7 goals in those 18 games

    Including scoring in 6 games out of 9 (!) between GW22 & GW30

He got over 75 points in those 18 games (nearly 4 PPG) which if you extrapolate to a 38 game season has him north of 150 points easily - and that’s without any improvement (at 24 you’d imagine he has some upside)

He’s one of the best dead ball specialists in the league, and is lethal from long range...

He’s not going to score 250 points, but he looks set to make his price tag look very kind indeed imo

That he certainly is not 🙂

He strikes me as a player who could establish himself as an FPL option this year, has all the right aspects to his game

Him, Ings, Adams, Yarmolenko, Robinson & possibly DCL are currently battling for the 6.0 slot in my team

        1. Galza
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 1 day ago

He could be, but I look at it as what would I say to someone who posted their team with JWP in it.
I’d probably say he’s not a great option and to wait and see if Yarmolenko looks like starting or try and find 0.5 to upgrade.

    2. El Lobito 10

Small sample period. May have been a mere purple patch. I have considered him but don't rate the Southampton team much. Not discarding him as an option though by any means but there are a lot of good mids around the 6 or 6.5 mark

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 16 Years
        7 years, 1 day ago

sample size is all relative though, right? Compared to say for example, Ceballos the sample size is positively gigantic

Who’s are the names on your 6.0 shortlist out of interest?

Just saw their fixtures. Pretty evil until end of November, I'll be avoiding Saints. I'm looking at Tielemans really, he's fantastic. Perez, Gross too. I fancy Gudmundsson to do well when Burnley fixtures improve and Lingard is flying under the radar very much, probably because he's a twat

            • 16 Years
            7 years, 1 day ago

Hmmm... I reckon we’ve all developed quite the blindspot with JWP - I find him an intruiging option

Tielemans & Perez look great, but they’re also more expensive

In that period JWP played 18 out of 19, scoring 7G

Ryan Fraser for example got 2G & 5Ain the same period

Siggy got 5G & 3A in that spell also

Just had a look at Pepe last season. Two thoughts

A He’s horrid for Auba if he gets pens - 9 of his 22 goals were pens. That’s where his returns get boosted.

B 13 goals (non pens) and 11 assists in Ligue 1 isn’t all that really is it for 80 mill or whatever? Pretty close to Zaha figures in PL last season. Zaha would also have got about 20 goals with pens added.

I am also thinking of putting KDB in, and have currently Wilson and Fraser in my team.

But I don’t like King (allways let me down last season), plus he didnt score/assist in pre-season.

Considering downgradig Laporte to a 4.5 and upgrading Fraser to KDB. Question is there a good enough 4.5/5.0 defender to put in my main line-up? (Have TAA, Robertson, Coleman, Laporte, Flodder)

And if so will KDB + 4.5 be better in points than Laporte + Fraser

Yeah, I think you're at a better spot than I am since I sadly don't have a Laporte in my locker to downgrade. The only way to do it is by swapping the Bournemouth boys for their teammate and then the Ginger Pele.

For you, I think the ideal thing to do is to downgrade Laporte to Zinchenko or Stones then find another 1M downgrade in your team.

First time playing with my team in the prem... Does it change anything? Already avoiding Bourne assets cause I'm confident we'll surprise them ;). Really tempted to avoid this altogether but vv difficult to do so

Shouldn't change much but if you're completely avoiding a strong attacking Bournemouth side due to it, it might be a sign of things to come.

I totally get it though, must feel amazing seeing your team in top flight for the first time.

Tbh prefer others to the Bourne lads. Think they'll struggle more this year but could be wrong. Yupp though 🙂 buzzing

Y'all expect Willian to be first choice under Lampard for Chelsea?

    Asking for a draft game.

Cheers mate. Any Sheff United players I should go for. Norwood was a possible one for me.

I'm considering Henderson, Lundstram for bench fodder and Robinson (5.5m midfielder OOP) bagged 4 in 3 in preseason up top and looks on fire. Hendo for save points and possible cleansheet in home fixtures

Looked at Henderson, just waiting for his appearance in the game. Could be a good punt as I think United could be in for a torrid time this season and he could be a bonus monster.

got Lundstram as bench fodder too but if he does well I will bring him im.

      I’d go Leno.
The guy finished 4th in the saves table last season with 105 and he played just over 500 minutes less than the top 3. I reckon with a full season as number 1 and he’ll easily make 5 mil look cheap...

Lacazette off for Nelson after 10 mins. Possible injury?

Question for Brighton supporters: how nailed is Stephens? Started 31 PL games last season. Can we expect a repeat?
