Liverpool take on Manchester City in the Community Shield this afternoon and the match could be as big a signpost as any as to how the two sides will line up in Gameweek 1.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) both make their first starts of pre-season for the Reds and are joined by Divock Origi (£5.5m) in the front three.

Sadio Mane (£11.5m) is yet to return following his involvement with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Alisson (£6.0m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0m), Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) and Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) all unsurprisingly feature in the Liverpool backline but Joe Gomez (£5.5m) has been given the nod over Joel Matip (£5.5m) to partner van Dijk at centre-half.

James Milner (£5.5m) is ruled out as a precaution due to a tight muscle.

There are no huge shocks in the Manchester City starting XI, with Aymeric Laporte (£6.5m) missing out through injury as expected.

Sergio Aguero (£12.0m), Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) and Ederson (£6.0m) are only among the substitutes after their late return from the Copa America.

Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) again leads the line for the Citizens and will be flanked by Leroy Sane (£9.5m) and Bernardo Silva (£8.0m).

Kevin De Bruyne (£9.5m) is part of City’s central midfield three, while Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.5m) starts again at left-back.

Kick-off at Wembley is at 15:00 BST.

I'm considering a midfield of Sterling, Salah, Perez, Moura and Martial. The last two obviously come with risks but if they hit the ground running they could have some good mileage in them. Thoughts?

i think the risk is minimal, as there's plently of alternatives for that price option, all it takes is 1 transfer to fix it up

It's that old FF cliché of "wait and see". Nobody ever gained anything by being first on a bandwagon.

5.5 Zinchenko is good value, and gives you versatility to switch to other potential high scoring defenders. (WanB, Coleman, Spurs, etc)

Could Milivojevic be a big differential player this season? I hope that he still will be the main penalty taker for Palace. Last season he scored around 12 goals, with 10 of them were penalties. Now with the VAR introduced in the upcoming season, would this be profitable for Palace?

    1. noahzark22
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 1 month ago

no data really suggests VAR brings more penalties to domestic leagues. It's equally likely to overturn some penalty calls. Palace is in shambles right now.

      1. rjcv177
        • 11 Years
        7 years, 1 month ago

Only added info to this. The big clubs get "dubious" penalties without VAR. If u remove the ones "gifted" to them i can almost guarantee that penalties will increase all around the league. The refs have the tool to check any doubts instead of let the game play on.
Other issue are goals from set pieces. Grabbing, pulling, blocking are easy to check now, defenders need to avoid that.

Siggy seems expensive with Everton’s poor pre-season attacking form, so perhaps b sensible. Rumours that Ake on Man City transfer radar, so caution needed there. If Chelsea not winning then Barkley likely to be subbed for Mount after 60 minutes or so.
