There were nine Premier League manager press conferences held on Thursday ahead of the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

The headline team news came from Liverpool, where Jurgen Klopp provided fairly positive news on Sadio Mane (£11.5m) ahead of Friday’s encounter with Norwich City.

Klopp said:

Looks fit. Yesterday was his first session with the team. Yesterday now with the team first time, looks absolutely OK, in good spirits. Yes he’s an option, but we will see.

The Reds’ boss said of James Milner (£5.5m):

Millie trained yesterday with the team, 100%. He will be fine.

The Reds opponents have problems at centre-half, with stoppers Christoph Zimmermann and Timm Klose (£4.5m) sidelined for Gameweek 1.

Defensive midfielders Alex Tettey and Ibrahim Amadou (both £4.5m) are also unavailable for tomorrow’s encounter.

On the subject of newly promoted clubs, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder revealed a clean bill of health at today’s presser.

Dean Smith only ruled out James Chester (£4.5m), meanwhile, as Villa prepare to take on Spurs.

Robbie Brady (£5.5m) looks set to miss out for Burnley against Southampton, whose manager Ralph Hasenhuttl didn’t disclose any injury concerns.

Gerard Deulofeu (£6.5m) was passed fit by Javi Gracia but Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) won’t be ready to feature against Brighton.

The Seagulls will be without Jose Izquierdo (£5.5m) and Yves Bissouma (£5.0m).

Mark Noble (£5.0m) hasn’t recovered from a dead leg in time to face Manchester City but Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) is fit to face the reigning champions.

We’ll have updates on Friday’s 11 press conferences in advance of the 19:00 BST deadline.

      B assuming no other Bournemouth

      C if you have Wilson

      Moura

Although I think Moura could have the most explosive GW1, he is definitely the riskiest. Even ignoring the fact Son comes back GW3, Spurs have beefed up their midfield options that he may realistically end up on the bench very very soon.

I would take Fraser for now and potentially switch to Martial when both of their fixtures swing perfectly at GW10

      For GW1 Moura 100%.

      After that Fraser.

VVD to Robbo - downgrade a GK to fund it

Cheers for the suggestion. I think rotating keepers seems to be the more beneficial option tho. Chose TAA over Robbo to start with in case of any set-piece potential, for which I'd have VVD to try take advantage of

Think I'm G2G, not the most original but for the first 2/3 GW's is fine:

    Pope
    Robertson - VVD - Digne - Zinchenko
    Salah - Sterling - Moura - Perez
    Wilson - King
    (Ryan, Rico, Dendoncker, Greenwood)

Not Joe that Tarkowski has remained at Burnely.

Injury may force him to start, but according to some Burnely fans, if Long is fit & not sold (not sure), he may be favoured over Gibson to to where in the CB partnership he is.

      It wasn't a sure-thing however.

Right then, I've got 2 totally separate teams, can't decide between the 2. Does one stand out to you?

    1,
    Alisson/ Button
    Coleman/ VVD/ Zinch/ Zouma/ Sokratis
    Sterling/ Bilva/ Perez/ Moura/ Dendonka
    Kane/ Wilson/ Long

    2.
    Ederson/Button
    VVD/ Robbo/ Dunk/ Kelly/ Lund
    Sterling/Salah/ Perez/ Robbo/ Dendonka
    Kane/ Jiminez/ Wickham

    Which one?

OK - This is it - Thanks for all the comments and advice I’ve settled for this team (for now) which I believe balances the chances of no shows as much as possible whilst having a competitive team for those who play and a get out route for those that are risks.

Ederson (Button - will drop to 4.0 keeper as soon as I know Ederson is in)
    Digne, TAA, VVD, KWP, (Guilbert)
    Salah, Sterling, Perez, Barkley, (Dendocker)
    Wilson, Jota, (Greenwood)

KWP will become Zouma next week
Barkley can become Mount or Cellebus if he is a no show.

    Thanks...

    Ryan / Button
    Robbo / VVD / Digne / AWB / Lund
    Salah / Sterling / Perez / Barkley / Dendonker
    Wilson / Kean / Ings

    Any thoughts on this guys?

Appreciate Barkley and Kean are punts but I think Barkley has done enough during pre-season to get a starting place and Kean will hopefully be leading the line as the rest are pretty useless.

I've found this pre-season by far the hardest in terms of deciding on my GW1 team and tbh I'm still not entirely happy with any of the drafts I've come up with.

Think I may go triple Bournemouth for the first two fixtures vs promoted teams whilst analysing players like Kean, Haller, Wesley and KdB who I'm tempted by now but not 100% sure on.

    Heaton (Pope)
Trent Robbo Digne Stones (B. Johnson)
    Salah Sterling Fraser Perez (Dendoncker)
    Wilson King (Parrott)

    Thoughts/advice welcome.

Go double BOU and get Jota imo over King

This is something I've considered - my hesitation is that I feel of the three Bournemouth players, King may be the one I end up keeping to cover Bournemouth whilst switching Fraser -> KdB and Wilson -> Kean/Wesley, if they perform.

Such forward planning is hard to pull off, something tends to happen

Literally in the middle of typing to ask if triple BOU was mad or inspired with a forced Wk3 WC.

I am edging towards inspired..... we cant both be wrong!

I think they're at very convenient price points for a triple up. Not planning on a WC, but will probably reduce back down to one Bournemouth player in time for GW3.

Is there any viable 4.0 Def options and who are the best 4.5 Defs?

Rather take a risk on Wesley or Haller?

Means the difference between a 7.0 or less mid (I have Perez already) or a 8.5 or less mid, as well
