A number of newly-promoted players caught our attention in the opening weekend of Fantasy Premier League action.

Norwich City were thrashed 4-1 at Liverpool but still caused their illustrious hosts plenty of problems.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa proved a stiff test for Spurs on Saturday evening while Sheffield United were the first of last season’s promoted clubs to earn a point in 2019/20.

We’ve gone over the numbers to see which of their players could provide some value this season.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 campaign can access it in full.

McGinn & Martial - if they had played exactly the same as they did in GW1 but not scored their goal would they even be on your radar?

I think Pulisic is awesome but 4 goals 4 assists in 20 apps for Borussia Dortmund?? And that's an offensive team. Auba did wonders there.

He was really poor in his final season there
Dortmund did amazingly well to get £60m for him

Yeah that did bump up his price tag quite a fair bit
I was watching Chelsea-Utd match on NBC sports and the camera couldn't stop focusing on him when he came on
So much pressure on his shoulders as the big hope of American "soccer"

    Adrian (Pope)

    VVD, Digne, Emerson (Zinchenko, Lundstram)

    Sterling, Siggy, Martial. Buendia (Dendoncker)

    Auba, Wilson, Maupay

I am on WC btw, so hits aren’t an issue. Main players I’m not 100% fixed on are Maupay, Buendia, Emerson and Zinch, but I like them all as punts

Maybe ‘punt’ wasn’t the right word. Zinchenko, Buendia and Emerson are pretty much guaranteed starts right now unlike some of the players I had before. Ofc I am not opposed to safer options, but I’m just considering fixtures.

Don't listen to TheDragon. Waste of a comment.

Your team looks okay but I agree I think you need some Liverpool attack in there pal unless you plan to go Auba to Bobby Gameweek 3 but I presume you want Kane?

          • 8 Years

            6 years, 11 months ago

I think he just expected you to have given suggestions rather than only a warning. I agree tho that bad punts will punish me given I don’t have another chance to make a massive squad overhaul til GW20, so who would you recommend I have instead of Buendia or Maupay? This is only the first team I have tried making and liked

        2. Dyballer
          • 8 Years
          6 years, 11 months ago

Thanks. I did have Salah and am definitely worried not to have any Liverpool attackers... My qualm with Salah is he played 120mins midweek and then has questionable fixtures thereafter for a little while. Although I don’t expect him to struggle, I can’t see him hauling often either. With such a large investment in a player, I’d want to be captain him most weeks, so I feel Sterling + Auba give a better option and more flexibility in midfield. Mane also looked much better yesterday, so I just want to see who out of them looks more explosive

    2. zotter
      • 16 Years
      6 years, 11 months ago

No Liverpool forward on a wildcard is so ballsy. Even more doubling up on their defence which is wobbly atm. Get rid Buendia and Wilson to fund mane at least

      1. Dyballer
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 11 months ago

I had Salah and defo wasn’t opposed to keeping him. I just had quite a few other issues and him playing 120mins midweek and Mane looking far more dangerous leaned me towards confirming the WC. Liv defence looks slightly out of sorts I agree, but even then I’d back them to keep a CS over any team bar City. 4.5m for Adrian is a bargain regardless

      1. Dyballer
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 11 months ago

Thanks! I had a good score tbh (88) and a decent squad. Naildeness in midfield and poor fixtures ultimately led me to reconsider my choices as well as the Adrian opportunity:

        Team was:

        Pope (Heaton)
        TAA, VVD, Digne, Duffy (Aarons)
        Salah, Sterling, Perez, Trossard (Barkley)
        Wilson, Jota (Greenwood)

      I went this way ...

      Ederson

      VVD, AWB, Zinchenko,

      Salah, Sterling, Martial, McGinn

      Kane, Origi, Martinelli

      Subs: Button, James, Rico, Kelly.

I like most of the players, but having 3 premiums has evidently led you to make severe compromises elsewhere. Origi and Martinelli won’t start many matches at all and the bench is too weak for my liking. Good thing you have your WC active, so I’d lose one of Salah or Kane and try upgrading Origi and at least one of your 4m defenders. Good luck tho!

          Thanks ...

Its a tough one because i had Kane and Salah but went for it to get in Sterling too.

So I've got to stick with this course now. I can't cancel the approach and feel timidity early on has held me back in recent years.

          1. Dyballer
            • 8 Years
            6 years, 11 months ago

I mean it’s not a bad approach to have all three. You may just have to downgrade Ederson, Martial or one of the 5.5m defs, because what will hurt you is having Origi and Martinelli as starters. I see James on the bench, but he isn’t a guaranteed starter yet, so you do need at least one dependable bench player.

            My recommendations would be:
            Ederson -> Adrian
Origi -> 6.5m FWD of your choice
Kelly -> Dunk? At least a nailed 4.5m def

His movement really impressed me, it was really good in fairness, you can’t deny that he did cause liverpool centre halves and TAA problems, he knows exactly how and when to run the channels, which lead to the goal, i think he can succeed this season based on what i saw in GW1, but 90 minutes may not be enough to judge. It was also the best defence in the league.

Wouldn’t have £6m James on the bench

Get rid of Zinchenko as you have Ederson and upgrade striker

      It’s good to go

Bench order is a lottery - could make a case for any of them

If you don’t think Zouma will keep a clean sheet then he probably shouldn’t be first on your bench. Dendoncker at least has the chance of attacking returns

Spent -4 getting Kane. Team (squad) is now:

    Heaton (Pope)
    TAA, Lundstram, Zinch (Rico, KWP)
    Sterling, Cantwell, Salah, Martial (Dendoncker)
    Abraham, King, Kane

    Comments - constructive preferably...

Why on earth did you do that this week?

      - he is playing City
      - he is if anything falling in price
      - it cost you -4

Doing it next week has none of the above problems....

It looks exactly as I would expect a SSK team to look like. You need to downgrade Abraham and probably a keeper and fix cantwell (who is he)

Maguire. Usually I would go for the full back. But awb has asprilla-legs and can’t cross

      Wan for Baps
      Harry for goal threat

I’d go Wan for old times sake but both similar quality of options I think

    Pickford
    TAA/Digne/Dunk
    Mane/KDB/McGinn/Martial
    Kane/Rashford/Jota

    Button/Dendonc/Rico/Lunds

What does this team look like had to wildcard as aslmost just had a Auto select team due to late entry.

Get Salah and Sterling instead of Mane and KDB I would

    Here’s my team:
    Pope
    Montoya,Coleman,TAA,VVD
    Salah,Sterling,Perez,KDB
    Wilson,King

    Button,Dendoncker,Greenwood,Lundstram

Should I just save the transfer? I can’t see any obvious changes

Definitely save but pray that Bournemouth attack fires this week otherwise you’ll need to move king and / or Wilson on quickly next week to avoid price drops

Good advice ... i wanted to stick with laporte but you can't have it all in this game.

Build from the back or stack the midfield or strikers.

I had Bournemouth and Wolves players as a second striking string before but wanted to go big. Likely backfire.

Don’t limit yourself to competing with people in your mini league. Strive for greatness - get a top 1k finish and all mini leagues will take care of themselves.

Can't decide on which of two defenders to start GW2.

AWB (A) Wolves / or Mings (H) Bournmouth

    Any thoughts?
