Under 10% of Fantasy Premier League managers played their Wildcard for Gameweek 3.

After two weeks of the campaign, 6.8% of players worldwide pulled the trigger to create themselves a new squad.

That was 2.4% more than played their Wildcards in Gameweek 2, just 4.4% of managers shaking things up at the first hurdle.

Worldwide chip usage for Gameweek 3

So far, 11.3% of managers have played their Wildcards.

Not surprisingly, it was the most popular chip for Gameweek 3, as the majority of FPL players hope to use the others later in the campaign.

The Wildcard has certainly been the talk of the town in the Fantasy Football Scout community this week, so it is helpful to have a look at the Wildcard templates both overall and among the current top 10,000 managers.

Understandably, Sterling is the most popular player in Wildcards for Gameweek 3, chosen in 73.0% of them.

Following his four goals in two games, Teemu Pukki (£6.8m) is just behind the Manchester City man, currently sat in 61.2% of Wildcard squads.

Snapped up by a similar number of managers was Sheffield United’s budget option John Lundstram (£4.1m).

His 14-point haul in Gameweek 2 has convinced 61.2% of Wildcarders of his ability to offer value this season.

Despite much of the pre-season debate revolving around whether or not we should have Sterling or Kevin de Bruyne (£9.6m), those who have Wildcarded early simply asked ‘why not both?’

The Belgian midfielder is the second-most popular option in his position among those who went back to the drawing board for Gameweek 3.

These early-movers have also largely ditched Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), opting to spread the cash elsewhere.

In order to facilitate this, 46% of these managers have opted for Sadio Mané (£11.5m) as their coverage for the Liverpool attack.

They have also moved away from the Reds’ defence following a disappointing start to the season.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) is the most fashionable of Liverpool stoppers with 36.5% presence in overall Wildcard squads for Gameweek 3, with Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0m) not earning enough interest to make the top-five in this position.

Manchester United players are also proving popular, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£5.6m), Anthony Martial (£7.7m) and Marcus Rashford (£8.7m) in the template.

Number of chips used by managers in the current top 10k

Even though those currently in the upper echelons of the game are still, to some extent, skewed by chip usage, it is still interesting to see who some of these managers have turned to in order to press home their advantage.

Their Wildcard template picture is actually remarkably similar to the overall one, the only differences coming in the budget areas.

Lewis Dunk (£4.6m) has been turned to with no Liverpool defenders making the cut, while Todd Cantwell (£4.6m) is in 33.9% of top 10k Wildcard squads.

Just 10.2% of managers have used the Triple Captain so far, with 2.3% of them deploying it for Gameweek 3.

Kane appears to have been the chief recipient of this enhanced armband among the current top 10,000, while Sterling, Rashford and Mané also received attention for it.

For people.who watched the game how did Guilbert play? Is there a chance that he stays in frist team?

Birmingham Mail ratings. 8 bit generous but didn't hurt his chances. One of reasons I sold Heaton on WC was open up 3rd Villa slot for maybe 4.4m defender

@kiwi Trezeguet's rating is 8, more than McGinn and Grealish at 7.5.

Nailed at left wing as Jota looks to rotate with El Ghazi in right wing?

Can he be better than other mid?

Trez played RW last 2 and El Ghazi dropped as poor but came on and scored a great goal. Smith wants competition for every spot and it's looking like working

6m I think. I think he puts in a good shift in attack and defence but prefer others for FPL on what I've seen so far

he's at a price level you can move to other good options, so worth a punt.

tbh i was more impressed with Brighton/Trossard maupay and mcginn

I had him in my presewson draft but changed to Mcginn before season started. At the end it was good choice considering first 3 GW but I think Trezeguet is the one to watch, he could have good season, good player.

He played very good last game, think he is nailed. I think he can be discovery this season. I know its Belgian league but his stats last season are great. Think he can be nice option, especially under new manager, Brighton can maybe score more goals this season.

          200 points for 7.0m is a bargain.

          normally costs 12m

Leave Robbo and VVD. Robbo can get 10 assists and 2 goals, VVD 5 to 8 goals

Question: Do you want a team to win a pen if you own the opposition GK?

For me I do in the first half but not in the second if he still has CS

Sounds right yes. Also depends how likely he is to keep a sheet. If I owned Alison or Ederson I wouldn’t want them to concede a penalty at any time if they still have a sheet

Yup, doing Sterling to Grealish soon!
On a serious note, from mates at the game last night, they reckon their home games will be epic (atmosphere was seemingly unreal) and that Wesley looked very good...which surprised me as I wasnt impressed with him at all from his first two games!

It finally came together for him this GW. Great run into space and finish for his goal, assisted the assister for the second and was generally great with his hold up play. On pens too, and you’d have to think that a team with Grealish in it is going to win its share of pens.

I’ve had him from the start and, though worried after he was hooked early last GW, am happy to be holding him with the upcoming fixtures.

I'll be shocked if Sheffield go down. They are too well drilled not to stay up. Norwich are going to need to keep scoring goals to stay up but I think they have the fire power. Villa I'm not too sure, I don't think they quite have enough goals in them to account for their poor defence. But they will put up a strong fight.

Let's be honest though, as soon as Newcastle appointed Steve Bruce they were going back down. Palace too reliant on Zaha. I don't think Sheffield or Brighton will be fighting for 18th. I think Villa, Norwich, Bournemouth and Southampton will fight it out.

        After 3 games

Villa 36 shots 14 on target 4 goals
Everton 34 shots 5 on target 1 goal

Which team's fans should be more concerned?

                Nope.

                Newcastle are going down.

The other two spots will be between:
Palace, Villa, Bournemouth, Norwich, Southampton. Palace and Villa looking the most likely.

Would you be looking to offload Coleman if you owned?
Thinking Digne or no one from the Everton defence.

Lots of options around the 5.5m mark. Have double Liv defence too and thinking I need to make some defensive changes.

    Current D.
    Ryan.
Coleman, Robbo, VVD, Lundstram, A Smith.

One Everton defender is fine just not two. Coleman out is a bit fickle, u picked Coleman because he is cheaper and his attackin intent. Give him time imo

      1. Sz21
        • 14 Years

1 Eve defender is enough- Digne looking a lot more dangerous FPL wise than Coleman it must be said. Digne looking like a top pick for the season it seems. Ownership is another factor.

Not sure Coleman is worth the 0.5m or so less than Digne now. I can downgrade Robbo or VVD to make up for it too if needed.

Looking to be more proactive this season than normal and that means getting on the guys who are looking close to must haves. Digne may be but Coleman def is not looking it atm.

    Heaton -- Pope
Taa Vvd Digne Zincheko -- Rico
Sterling Kdb Martial Perez* -- Dendocker
    Kane King* -- Wickham

*already lost 0.1m each on these and will loose more if i dont get rid

A: Save FT as Perez (BOU) has good fixture and get rid of him in gw5
