Last season’s finish of 1,224 was Josh Landon’s third within the top 5,000 during his nine-year Fantasy Premier League career.

But the Always Cheating podcast co-host’s campaigns haven’t always looked so easy.

In Joe’s latest Meet the Manager interview he finds out Josh’s strategies for success and how he has learned from his mistakes.

The demons of what he calls “that Yaya Toure and Aaron Ramsey season” loom large in his thinking years on. This has helped him snap up emerging bandwagons quickly, and especially before they become the template.

Other ghosts from the past such as Watford striker Odion Ighalo are also revealed during Josh and Joe’s chat about how psychology affects Fantasy managers’ decisions.

As listeners to Josh’s podcast will know, the eye test is crucial to his decision making. After all, the best manager to trust is often ourselves, as Josh describes how he navigates his way through the noise of FPL content, most notably on social media.

Latest football trends, which defenders to select and the ability to spot when a Fantasy game is “throwing a bone” are also explored in detail during this latest episode of a series that began last season to focus on the thoughts of managers with a stellar track record of success.

The chat with Josh is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

It is also available on Soundcloud and through other notable podcast outlets. Embedded versions of these are also available below.

Laporte drop was annoying but cant say it wasnt coming. Who to move him on for?

    A. Otamendi
    B. Digne
    C. Lowton *

    * context - if I downgrade to Lowton it keeps a City spot free as I may look into bringing in KDB very soon.

    Current defence:

    Pope
    Laporte TAA Lund Kelly Rico

I'd bring in Kdb as soon as possible. Digne for me otherwise.

    2. MTPockets
      6 years, 10 months ago

If Digne still affords KDB then B
But Burnley's fixtures are pretty good so if there's a time to have Pope + def it's probably now

Very soon isn’t soon enough imo.

But there again that’s a very thin defence given Kelly Rico are unlikely to feature. Wouldn’t really wanting to be starting Lund every week and the Burnley double up is bold.

A few decent choices around the 4.5 mark. Soyuncu, Pieters, etc. I'd prob downgrade and get KDB as you have suggested. That's what I've done anyway. (TAA only premium def I have left).

    Pope
Robertson | Zinchenko | Van Dijk | Digne
    Sterling | Salah | McGinn | Mount
    Pukki | Wilson

    (Button, Dendoncker, Lundstrom, Greenwood)

1 FT, 2.3m in the bank and WC still to use.

I need to somehow get KDB in my team, especially prior to the Norwich game. Reluctant to use my WC to make so few changes. Any advice how to fit him in?

I'm thinking McGinn -> KDB and Robertson to a 5m like Mings

    2. Squeakybum99

Using Robbo and McGinn. That's what I did a few GWs back. Fraser in my case instead of McGinn. However McGinn is a decent bet for his price, whereas Fraser blanked enough for me to pull the plug in GW2.

    4. MTPockets

Not ideal with Robertson vs NEW. But if you want KDB have to make a sacrifice somewhere
Guess downgrading Wilson doesn't leave enough

    Pope (Button)
    VVD Zouma Guilbert Kelly Lundstram
    Salah Sterling KDB F.Anderson Mount

    1FT and 0

    A. Save
    B. Zouma or Rashford out

    Pope (4.0)
Digne - TAA - Zinchenko (Soyuncu, Lundstram)
Sterling - KdB - Salah - Mount (Cantwell)
    Haller - Abraham (Ayew)

4 subs rotate for 11th place.

Yeah, Mount could be James, or Abraham could be Pukki/Barnes. Have James from 6.0 and Pukki from 6.8 currently in my team, to make the decision before deadline..

Also have Zinch as 5.5, might switch to Otamendi but that 0.1 buffer is hard to throw away..

If Newcastle keep it tight early on, I dont think they won't lose by loads as can be reasonably resilient if they want to. Conversely, if they let in an early couple, they will lose heart (see Norwich) and have Bruce to gee them up so likely a landslide

    Trent is safe pick

I’d put my mortgage on TAA playing 90mins v Newcastle and benched via Napoli. TAA Highly likely to play 90 v Chelsea thereafter.

Insigne ripped him apart in July and I expect Gomez to come in for UCL.

Trents creativity is going to be needed against Newcastle who are likely to just turn up and park the bus. This is exactly the type of game that Trent is essential for Liverpool.

How important is it to have a strong bench from now until Christmas?

If I want to fit KDB in, my bench is - Cantwell 4.7, Hanley 4.0, Nketiah 4.4 (extra 0.1 needed)
    0.0 ITB - WC ac

    team

      You want two prolly

There are a few in your side who are occasional rotation risks and injuries happen. That said any sub is a likely 2 pointer only so the occasional 10 man side isn’t a disaster.

Are head to head records a valid gauge?

Since Palace came up 7 of 12 matches against Spurs have been 1-0. Only one of the others has been high scoring with a 0-0, a couple of 2-0s, a 2-1 Palace victory and a solitary 3-1 to Spurs.

KDB is in some form. Just run riot against Scotland. I'd bring him in.

I was about to laugh and say how he does against Scotland doesn't really show form, then I realised Norwich will be playing a second choice Scotland cb at best at the weekend...

Believe this team needs a few changes and I definitely need for some of your advice.

    Heaton* | Pope
    VVD | Robertson | Digne | Aarons* | KWP*
Salah | De Bruyne | Maddison | Lanzini | Dendonker
    Kane | Murray* | Gallagher

*Could downgrade defense to upgrade elsewhere. Have 2 FT and 0.4 in the bank. What changes would you make to this lot? Would you take any hits?

    Cheers!

Just spent a few minutes looking at this and it isn't straightforward.

I think the fitness of Aarons and Walker-Peters could dictate your moves. If one of them is out, I'd consider switching to a 4.5 defender, maybe Lowton, or Soyuncu if you aren't keen on the Burnley double up, then moving Murray to Barnes?

I’m hoping it doesn’t 🙂 but it surely will. Up to now most transfers will have been WC - the professionals will be making their moves in the next couple of days.

Surely the professionals aren't getting rid of a £7.7m OOP Man Utd striker though (albeit this Man Utd)!?
Just hope he drops cos I want him in and it'll mean not having to carve up elsewhere. 🙂

      FOR REFERENCE

Existing players from Liverpool and City:

      Liverpool: Mane
      City: Sterling, KDB, Zinchenko

Would be getting rid of Zinchenko for a -4 to bring in Kun

if you have sterling and kdb, i would probably say salah then. especially with the risk that aguero could be rested for jesus plus could easily get taken off after 65 to rest for champions league

Gtg this week? Need to address defence (maybe bring in Otamendi for Digne and upgrade Kelly to Soy) but hoping to get away without transfers this week.

    Pope
    TAA Digne Lundstram
    Salah KDB Sterling James
    Haller Pukki Barnes

    Lowton, Cantwell, Kelly

He's starting to show a bit more consistency away from home, but has still blanked in four of his last ten league road trips, so it's not unthinkable.

    a) vvd, digne, lanzini
    b) 4.3 defender, digne, pepe/son
    c) vvd, 4.8 defender, pepe/son

    which option...

Morning Gaffers. On a WC and have the exact money for this:

    Ryan Pope
    TAA Digne Zinchenko Pieters Lundstram
    Salah Sterling KDB Mount Cantwell
    Barnes Haller Greenwood

It looks a solid team to me but just feel a bit meh about it and am wondering if I should upgrade Greenwood to a Pukki or C.Wilson by donwgrading elsewhere. Would be harder to do post-WC obviously. Thoughts???

Thoughts on what to do with this team?

    Pope
    VVD - AWB - Digne - Zouma - Lundstram
    Sterling - Salah - KDB - Martial - Dendoncker
    Pukki - Jota - Wickham

    0.5 ITB and 2 FTs.

    Thanks guys!

personally would look to get rid of zouma, awb and jota. Dont think chelsea or united will keep many clean sheets, and jota could potentially be dropped for cutrone by looks of it (he should play most games but certainly not 90 minutes)

      awb out for otamendi
      zouma out for soyuncu

then you have 1mil in bank to upgrade jota next week?
