Wolverhampton Wanderers are still without a league win this season but were thankful to come away from Selhurst Park with a point after a last-gasp leveller on Sunday.

We round up the main Fantasy talking points from their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in our Scout Notes article below.

Crystal Palace 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

  • Goals: Leander Dendoncker (£4.5m) own-goal | Diogo Jota (£6.2m)
  • Assists: Joel Ward (£4.5m) | Adama Traore (£5.0m)
  • Bonus: Jota, Traore x3, Ward x1

After an underwhelming start to 2019/20, there were faint glimmers of hope on Sunday that Wolves are beginning to awake from their early-season stupor.

A 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace is hardly Roy of the Rovers stuff and Fantasy managers will likely need a lot more persuading but there were a couple of positives to take from this match at Selhurst Park.

The strength of character needed to fight back from 1-0 down after Romain Saiss‘ (£4.4m) 73rd-minute dismissal was to be applauded, especially after the struggles of recent weeks when succumbing to defeats to Everton, Chelsea and Braga.

Perhaps more significantly, though, Wolves looked more like their usual selves in the opening 45 minutes, creating the better chances and restricting Palace to just one shot on goal.

This was Wolves of old, with Nuno Espirito Santo sending his troops out in a 3-4-3 (the formation favoured in the first three months of 2018/19) and Matt Doherty (£6.0m) evoking memories of last season when popping up in the box to force a superb save from Vicente Guaita (£5.0m).

Leander Dendoncker (£4.5m) also had a gilt-edged opportunity to open the scoring but saw his goalbound shot blocked on the line, while Diogo Jota (£6.2m) fired straight at Guaita after an excellent one-touch Wolves move.

The 3-4-3 saw Adama Traore (£5.0m) join Jota and Raul Jimenez (£7.3m) in a front three, with the Mexico international the spearhead of the attack.

The advantages of that system were evident in the first half with the West Midlands club looking more fluent in attack, although Nuno Espirito Santo’s side reverted to a 3-5-2 from around the hour-mark as Palace fought back into the match and Wolves’ central midfield became overrun.

Still, it needed a huge slice of luck for Palace to take the lead – an off-target Joel Ward (£4.5m) effort being deflected in by Dendoncker – and the Eagles didn’t really carve out too many clear-cut chances until Saiss was sent off and Wolves had to chase the game.

Santo said of his side’s display:

The first half was very good. It was very well played and I think this is what we should stick to and build from the way we played in the first half.

We played very good, created chances, managed and controlled the game and this is what we want from the growing of the team to sustain this performance because one of the reasons is if you play so good in the first half and produce so many things you must punish. That allows you to control the game in a better way.

One thing we Fantasy managers will have to get used to at Wolves is rotation, which remains a major downside to their assets.

Depending on their EFL Cup progress and because of their UEFA Europa League involvement, Santo’s outfit may well play twice a week, every week between now and 2020.

This time it was the turn of Ruben Neves (£5.5m) to drop to the bench, while Ryan Bennett (£5.0m) was missing from the matchday squad for the second Gameweek in a row – although his absence is more about tactical preferences and form than rotation.

Neves’ benching means that Jimenez, Conor Coady (£5.0m) and Rui Patricio (£5.1m) are now the only ever-present starters for Wolves in the Premier League this season. At this stage last year, Santo had yet to make a single change to his starting XI.

The Wolves boss said after full-time:

It will be the same. There are always changes depending on what we need from the game.

The players that we want to manage and realise we have a game-plan. It is impossible to do what we did last season, I think we played ten times with the same XI.

You have to realise the situation but we have a squad and we trust in our squad. Every player has to be ready to grab their chance.

While there were promising signs from a defensive perspective from Wolves, it should be said that they were up against one of the limpest attacks in the division.

Palace had only one shot on target in the first hour of Sunday’s game and no club has scored fewer goals or carved out fewer ‘big chances’ than Roy Hodgson’s side in 2019/20.

Indeed, their only real clear opportunities came late in the game when breaking on the counter-attack, with Jeffrey Schlupp (£5.5m) and Christian Benteke (£5.8m) wasting excellent chances when clean through on goal.

Wilfried Zaha (£6.8m) looked a little more like his old tricky self, at least, and it will be interesting to monitor his form as a mid-price midfielder ahead of Palace’s fixture turn in Gameweek 14.

Zaha is yet to register a goal or assist in 2019/20, with a lack of pre-season and the biannual distraction of a failed move away from south London perhaps affecting his early-season performances.

The Fantasy potential is certainly there given his falling price and reclassified position and he did, after all, bank 21 attacking returns last season.

The Eagles sit bottom of our Season Ticker for defence until Gameweek 13 and few managers will be interested in recruiting any of the Palace backline over the coming two months, despite Hodgson’s side being only seconds away from banking their third straight clean sheet at home.

It could be argued that the return of Mamadou Sakho (£5.0m) has perhaps made the Eagles temporarily weaker at the back, too, with the former Liverpool stopper still getting to grips with competitive football after a lengthy lay-off and looking rusty in the 4-0 defeat at Spurs last week.

Sakho was a little better in Gameweek 6 at least and Gary Cahill (£4.5m) delivered another excellent performance at centre-half, with the spot perhaps his to lose now.

Budget FPL defender Martin Kelly‘s (£4.1m) race may be run, however, as he was back among the substitutes for this match and now faces additional competition at centre-back from the fit-again James Tomkins (£5.0m).

Right-back Ward was culpable for Wolves’ equaliser as he made a complete hash of Traore’s 95th-minute cross to allow Jota to stab in his first league goal of the campaign.

Hodgson said of his side’s display:

I thought that we did more than enough in the second half of the game to win it. It was a very good second-half performance.

Perhaps we should have taken one or two of those very good chances that we created or those situations apart from the obvious chances that we created around the penalty area, then maybe we wouldn’t have been concerned about the last minute of the game and a cross coming into our box. But we didn’t.

We weren’t able unfortunately to manage those last five minutes by preventing them from getting any sniff at our goal or any balls in our penalty area and as a result, they took the chance.

    A) Aurier (SOT)
    B) Soyuncu (NEW)
    C) Otamendi (eve)
    D) Pukki (cpa)

Probably my last day to ponder the merits of a WC this week. Can you choose the best WC team and I'll then compare to my current one?

    (A)
    Pope (Heaton)
    Ota TAA Aurier (Lund Soyuncu)
    Son Sterling Kdb Mount (Cantwell)
    Abraham Pukki Firmino

    (B) (Same keepers)
    TAA Soyuncu Ota (Lund Rico)

    VVD > Robertson
    Zinchenko > Rico
    Salah > KDB
    D Silva > Son
    Auba > Firmino
    Greenwood > Wood

Leaves me with the below and 1.7m ITB:

    Button/Pope
    Robertson/Digne/Kelly/Rico/Lundstram
    KDB/Son/Sterling/Mount/Dendoncker
    Firmino/Wood/Pukki

Looks like we have some fantastic news this morning. Official FPL have just tweeted this statement:

"Following an investigation, we are satisfied that three accounts were deleted by a malicious third-party as there was a consistent pattern between the activity. As such, we have reinstated the accounts to the original owners. Furthermore, we can confirm there was no breach of our servers and only three accounts were impacted by this activity. We encourage all FPL users to practise good password management, keep their passwords secure and not supply them to any third-parties."

I'm hesitant about getting Abraham when he has two other strikers to compete with making it a higher risk than usual for losing time due to CL rotation, loss of form and early subs.
Better to go with someone without those risks?

Here goes... for -4 you could do the following:

      Digne + Dilva + Vardy -> Abraham + Son + Otamendi

      Digne to Otamendi

This group of Misfits, differentials and those who just aren’t that popular around here. Sure some may be relatively well owned but they generally all fit into one of the category’s above and all could offer something going forward.

Alonso, Mendy, AWB, Buendia, Yarmolenko, Maddison, McGinn, Saka, Wilson,

None of them that particularly highly owned so all decent prospects. Even the likes of Maddison you would expect should be popular but only at 11%, fact is most people will pick the cheaper Mount for that position. Some to consider anyway, if you like to be different or in the likes of McGinn, just sensible (see him or Buendia as an alternative to Cantwell)

Think I might try get him, tempted. That’s why he is good pick because no one really has room for players like that. Everyone just has mount for instance

That's what makes him a bad pick, I'd counter. Forcing space for these kinds of differentials can be dangerous (who am I to talk though, I own Vardy)

I wouldn’t say as an alternative to mount but if u can find that extra space then yea maybe. I know what you mean tho, differentials can be risky. Just not too many and sensible ones who have fixtures and form, can’t go to wrong then

Maddison I'm bringing in, I think he'll become very popular very soon once Liverpool game out of way with. Buendia and Yarm on my radar but just don't have the mid spots left. Would need an injury or big spending up front to think about bringing them in.

Alonso and Mandy I see as big risks, Saka I'm unsure of game time.

Kdb is legendary status in fpl already imo. When he went out injured last season that was gutting, to have him this season fully fit is great. My only stupid move was not having him since GW1.
Just hope he doesn’t get injured at all, want to see the points he get this season. Could very well be in top 3 for points, dare I say number 1.

Hmm sterling has bad record vs Everton? So to does Kun who hasn’t scored nor assisted vs them in the league since 2014 lol.

Not sure anyone other than kdb at city is a smart captain choice this week then

Yea well fine I guess just not expecting anything from cantwell. Relying on him week in week out was a mistake probably especially with two away games on the trot, with mcginn looking far better.
Ditched digne for ota, saving two free transfers in the weeks coming. So yea I’m just going to stick to the plan for now Kane captain and cantwell play for the next 2/3.

Upgrade ota to taa, cantwell to maddison And the striker to Tammy. Then I pretty much cover most of the players who are threat to me.

          My humble opinion.

Heaton to Button or another 4.0. Rotating keepers a headache.

That leaves you with 0.6 ITB.

You obviously like the CHE double up but Mount for me over Tammy.

I would do this, not saying you have to though and do not hold it against me either. Without tearing your idea apart and without money calculstions hopefully it will square out.

          Pope Button
          TAA OTA Aurier Diop Lund
          Salah KDB Son Cantwell Mount
          Auba (Barnes or Wood) Pukki

That is how I would get Son in and if my thumbsuck calculations on money are correct.

    Hi guys,
This is my 3rd year I take this game seriously and I'm pondering about team structure. Sorry for my English but would love to hear your opinions.
The consensus of the community (here, Twitter, etc') is to invest your money with few big hitters for captaincy and not lay money on the bench. thus, you have a few captaincy options, you don't have a benching headache and generally, all your money invest at your 11 players.
But, are we missing something? As I see it, there is an option of 2 rotating big hitters for captaincy and a good bench so we can deal with rotation and maximize more teams with favorable fixtures.

I think this year we got a lot of cheap enablers that can afford that. I can end with a team that looks like this for the next few GWs:
    Pope
    TAA | Aurier | Otamendi | Periera
    Mount | KDB | Son | Maddison
    Aguero | Abraham

    Bench: 4.0, Pukki, Cantwell, Lund.

Indeed, there is a good bench, but If they score, I'm more then happy that I got them as they give me an indication of their capabilities. With this squad, I can play 3-4-3, 4-4-2, 3-5-2. It's very flexible. I think the key to this is the Cheap enablers that we got this season such as Chelsea assets, Norwich assets, Lund, Son + KDB that can consider as big hitters.
Would love to hear your thoughts on structure

I past years I've had a strong bench, but it just isn't worth it. The money sat on the bench could be invested in first 11 every week and scoring you more points. I seem to have a very similar team as you but will have Salah playing over Son cause less money sat on bench.

    Morning all!

Following a pretty crazy gameweek where many managers fortune went to one extreme or the other, it's no surprise to see a new leader in the Community Champion Scout Picks competition! The Scout picks racked up an impressive 72 points, but couldn't match Irfansheikh's massive 88 point score, which makes them the new leader with a 16 point victory! Big well done to Irfansheikh!

Another new gameweek means we have some new Scout Picks and therefore we need a fresh Community Champion for Gameweek 7.

The Community Champion picks a team to go up against the Scout Picks, within a budget of 83m and in a playable FPL formation. Whichever Gameweek champion beats the Scout’s team by the largest margin will win a £100 Amazon Voucher!

If you're interested in applying, email Geoff (geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk) with your FFS username and FPL Team ID.

The Champion will be picked Thursday midday, so make sure to enter by then! The Champion then has until 11am Friday morning to send in their team.

    Good luck!

Many people are removing Digne and Zinch, but what are premium alternatives? Zinch out is understandable but then if you remove Digne which high potential defender you will get? Arse Manutd Che cant defend, Liv have tricky matches for double up assuming most have TAA/Robbo. Lei look best of lot with cheap Soyuncu. Or Azpi/Mendy for punty ones?
At Spurs Aurier can be option but he looks inconsistent ane not nailed.
Which premium defender is worth it?

I dropped Digne to Rico to switch from 4-4-2 to a more flexible 3-4-3

Ricardo is worth it. Fixtures. Bonus magnet. 10 G+A last season. Leicester more solid defensively this season, only conceded 5 to a list of Wolves, Man Utd, Chelsea, Sheff Utd, Spurs, and Bournemouth, and never more than one a game. This defensive solidity hasn't really affecting his attacking prescence, although when the team plays poorly he tends to not have as much of an outlet going forwards.

As mentioned earlier today, I somehow found myself taking a -8 last night (having already used my FTs) but have ended up with a very template team.

My main concern is I have no differentials (apart from the “differential” of not having certain players!).

With my WC still in hand, would you use it now to avoid the hits and get some differentials to gain ground (currently 412k OR)?

    0.2itb
    Heaton
    VVD, Ota, Soy
    Salah, Sterling, KDB, Mount
    Pukki, Haller, Abraham
    (Button) (Cantwell, Lunds, Rico)

    Appreciate the advice gents

I'd wc if you badly want Son/Auba etc. Otherwise stick.

Tbh it’s not even them I’d be looking at, more the less owned picks like Bobby and Vardy/ Maddison.

I’ll try and stick and watch who emerges as a decent differential

Id stick with that team for next 2 gameweeks and then reassess.

        Cheers mate.

Frustrating to be on the back foot with hits like that but by next week people may be clamouring for a new set of differentials anyway!

On a scale of 1-10 how nuts is Zaha(C)?

You're just doing it to be contrary, stop it. A 9, 10 being selling all your players for a hit.

seems a good week for an out there punt though!

That's beyond an out there punt. An out there punt would be captaining Pukki or Abraham or something.

To understate, that is the definition of a high risk, low reward move.

Crystal Palace are a less attacking team than Burnley. Benteke is sitting up front. Zaha can't assist himself and score as well. He'll roast Byram once or twice, get into good positions, and then pass the ball backwards because there's no one making runs in the final third. It's a totally needless risk. I'd genuinely rather captain Pope.

Ok so how to choose who to bench between Rico and Guilbert next GW?

First has atracking potential and the second has better home clean sheet chance?
