Fantasy Premier League managers will already have one eye on the end of Gameweek 13 when Bruno Fernandes (£11.0m) visits Sheffield United.

Manchester United are not in action until Thursday evening when their midfield maestro shoulders the responsibility of 1.2 million captain armbands.

No asset comes into Gameweek 13 backed by that many, although among the top 10,000 managers, he plays a secondary, yet not insignificant, role.

As you can see, Fernandes was seen as the best alternative to Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) for the Gameweek 13 captaincy, backed by 28.1% at this level.

The strength of the Portuguese international’s following makes for a gap of just 4.2 percentage points compared to Manchester City’s number 17, who was chosen as skipper by 32.3% of the top 10k – and blanked in a favourable home matching against West Bromwich Albion.

Meanwhile, at least 20% of the top 10k are expecting goals at Anfield on Sunday, despite predictions of Jose Mourinho spoiling the occasion with his big-game conservative approach.

That’s because 11.0% of these managers have captained Harry Kane (£10.9m), FPL’s highest-scoring asset with just one blank since Gameweek 2.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) has blanked just once at Anfield this season, convincing 9.1% of the top 10k to captain the Egyptian for Gameweek 13.

Jamie Vardy (£10.3m) completes the top-five continuing as a niche captain at this level with 5.4% backing for the armband ahead of facing Everton.

Incredibly, De Bruyne is still something of a differential among the top 10k.

Despite coming into Gameweek 13 as the most popular captain in this rank bracket, three more players can boast higher effective ownership.

As already alluded to, Fernandes is the most significant of these, sitting in 61.1% of top 10k squads and his captaincy backing taking him to effective ownership of 89.2%

Kane (81.2%) and Son Heung-min (78.5%) remain powerful effective ownership weapons, each one at least six percentage points better off than De Bruyne in this department.

This season best-performing Fantasy managers are slowly losing patience with the Chelsea defence.

Ben Chilwell (£6.2m) came into Gameweek 12 as the top 10k’s most-fashionable defender – sat in 56% of their squads at the last deadline.

However, James Justin (£4.9m) has overtaken him for Gameweek 13, edging past by 0.01 percentage points, although Chilwell has still suffered a decrease of 5.6 percentage points of his own.

Kurt Zouma (£5.7m) and Reece James (£5.3m) also suffered mild decreases in popularity at this level, owned by 30.1% and 24.3% respectively for Gameweek 12 and just 29.7% and 23.5% after Tuesday afternoon’s deadline.

For the second Gameweek in a row, the midfield is the area of biggest fluctuation, although the top-four players in this position have held onto their places in the template.

Diogo Jota‘s (£6.9m) injury sees him drop out of the top five while De Bruyne finally creeps in with 39.6% ownership.

Assessing how the top 10k made room for him in their squads is difficult considering that Salah’s ownership has stayed the same between Gameweeks 12 and 13, Son dipped from 79.9% to 77.3%, while Fernandes and Jack Grealish (£7.8m) have all increased their popularity at this level.

There has not been any sign of sacrificing funds up-front to facilitate changes in midfield either.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.9m) suffered only a minor ownership decrease (from 72.2% to 71.1%), Kane’s has remained virtually stable and Patrick Bamford (£6.3m) became more popular, rising from 54.4% top 10k ownership to 57.6%.

Wildcards continue to fall slowly among the top 10k as another 1.2% of them pulled the trigger on a new squad for Gameweek 13.

Unsurprisingly, interest in the Triple Captain and Free Hit chips was low indeed, although there was a smattering of Bench Boost deployments.

In fact, roughly as many made use of the enhanced bench as did Wildcards this time out – an interesting decision considering recent announcements about Double Gameweek 19.

Continuing the trend of top 10k managers finally taking notice of De Bruyne, we can see that he is the most popular midfielder on Wildcarders at this level for Gameweek 13.

Only Kane was chosen more often by such managers for the midweek deadline, the general theme of these Wildcard selections clearly involving templating-up among the forwards and securing the key premium midfielders plus Grealish.

How to deal with GW 18 & 19. Already used Wildcard.

    1. Play as strong as you can for next several weeks and getting 10 or 11 players for GW18 then FH GW19.
    2. Use transfers to get an XI for GW 18 with 2 FTs for GW19... then play Triple Captain.
    3. Use next several transfers to setup a quality GW19 team. Use FH in GW18. Triple Captain GW19.

GW 18 FH , use the transfer to fill in for GW 19 (use BB maybe)

tbh they are all valid and may be influenced by who you already own. I'm least in favour of 2 although Salah(tc) has some appeal.

I'm leaning to 3 but undecided yet.

      You will actually get a wc gw17 so you could add;
      4) wc17 setting up gw19, FH18, BB19 but that leaves you only TC chip for later gw so probably not the best as your then hoping the FA Cup causes minimal carnage.

Gw 19 FH Looks ideal to me. You can get the best set of players for that dgw.... While managing a XI for GW 18

Although Gw 18 FH is more popular on here.

What would be the best strategy here?
    Mendy(Forster)
    Chilwell Cancelo Coufal (Lamptey)(Neco)
    Salah KDB(C) Bruno Grealish(Riedewald)
    Bamford DCL Watkins

    1.5 itb, 1ft

I already have 7 for GW18(Although 3 of them are Riedewald, Cancelo,Lamptey) is FH18 still worth it for me?

There is no way of knowing, but he has been very good and created a lot of opportunities. My best guess is that he starts 3 of the next 4 -- (a) SOU in GW 14, (b) then one of NEW in GW 15 and EVE in GW16 (where they play Sat and Mon), and (c) CHE in GW17. That would mean starts on Sat/Sat/Sun or Sat/Mon/Sun, but either way basically once per week.

If I were guessing, I think he sits against NEW and Pep saves him for EVE, but, who knows. But it seems very unlikely that he'll start both of them.

If B may as well go Douglas 3.8m although I'd be loathed to lose Son without Kane who I'd be trying to work towards getting although wouldn't be quick and easy.

Certainly shifting some value from the def up top seems sense. Pool have decent fixt but I don't see their FB offering that 7m+ value with no vvd.

I would say your team should look like.
          4 players who play 18
          4 players who play 19
3 big hitters for 18. Switch these 3 to big hitters for 19 by doing 3 transfers(-4/-8)

This will allow you to have big hitters in both 18 and 19. And field 7 players in both.

At halftime going 3 Che defs was all the rage now suddenly 1 is too many it seems. Not planning to lose mine but as a Chilwell and Zouma owner I'd love Frank to play Azpi.

Not just to stitch James owners which ofc would be great but he's a better defender in terms of my cs. I think Frank sticks with James though.

Looking for options to free up funds to do Mahrez > Son before Fulham, which to go?

        A) Chilwell to Dier (have James)
        B) Grealish to Bowen/Neto/JWP
        C) DCL to Bamford/Adams

Probably would do FH18 BB19 so maybe DCL out edges it if looking farther.

Without knowing money ITB and the rest of the team...

          I'd recommend Chilwell to Stones.
I believe Stones was just rested and Laporte wasn't used. Its a slight risk so your D4 is important.

Grealish plays GW18 and has games up his sleave.
Calvert-Lewin plays GW18, has a couple of good upcoming games, and really hasn't dropped off too dramatically considering fixtures and Everton personnel changes.

Otherwise, Neto looks good as he'll release the most funds.

          GW 19 FH for me.

GW 18 FH does not have much upside. Aside from City and Tottenham fixture the rest 3 fixtures do not really look points to me and as it everyone already has one or two of Kane Son KDB... So you could get away fielding 7-8 players that week.

Allows you to differentiate later and select the best options possible instead of getting the players in ahead of time with a risk of them getting benched.

          1. Pinturicchio10
              5 years, 2 months ago

Plenty of upside having 11 players and a crack at a big score vs teams with 7 or 8 players.

For to get that upside you need to have good enough players who can get points. Apart from City and Spurs dont see who can get the points and everyone will own Son Kane KDB

For your team. Plenty of teams wont have numbers in 18, which means the FH upside is there. They would also naturally have a strong team of dgw players and maybe only need one or two transfers to max out.

Looks good, nice fixture on 20 as well. I am still 50:50 whether use FH in 18 or 19.
I can get 10-11 players in 18 without hit.
Or 13 DGW players + Martinez and Son in 19 (BB)

I'm leaning towards FH in DGW19 as well.

My season keepers (Son, Kane, DCL, Martinez) all play in BGW18 and I'm reluctant to transfer them out just for DGW19.

Easy to get 9-10 players for 18 without taking a more than a -4. already have double villa, DCL, KDB, Zaha, Lamptey. And was already planning on getting 2 or 3 Spurs players for GW16 onwards

I like seeing different strategies, makes the game more interesting.

I think I'm on for a GW18 FH and then still deciding between BB/TC for GW19 personally, but each to their own and good luck.

I’m not going to dismantle my team for GW18 only. I will probably run with 8 max and FH GW19.

This game is luck & the rest are just supplements/ guide. In the end, It’s either you are lucky or not.

Nah, you can definitely make reasoned decisions, but you're right that a lot of 'variance'/'luck' plays its part as well.

But that's why we play, if it were easy and everyone got 100 points every week, no one would play.

My point is Luck has more control of the game than everything else & yes, we can’t control our luck but could at least try to get an advantage with those supplements.

So many factors affect how lucky we are in the game, for example; if we analysed those stats well, eye test, VAR, injuries etc

But when someone says this game is strictly eye test/ stats, that is just bullshiiit

Its difficult, because if it was such a high % luck, then home come some managers consistently finish at extremely high ranks over 10+ seasons? I think that's the proof that luck isn't the be all and end all.

But I get your point, you can analyse everything and still end up captaining Giroud or Son for a red card.

I would say most of the game is luck, but the minority percentage that is skill does make all the difference in terms of where you will end up from an OR perspective.

That's the question. I reckon over Christmas with so many people usually travelling, there will be more Covid cases which might lead to more cancellations.

People building for GW18.. Aren't you concerned about loading up on dross players? Barring Spurs, the rest are awful teams or in terrible form (City). Assuming your FHing in GW19, you'd be keeping these rubbish players for a while.

FH in GW19 doesn't look that appealing as those with SGW in 19 seem to actually have better fixtures (spurs, city, villa, wolves, arsenal). Pool has burnley which could be good but don't think you'll need more than salah for that, Bamford is only cover you need for Leeds and while west ham's fixtures look best on paper, they are up against 2 park bus teams and they aren't explosive themselves and it's hard to predict their goals.

Would you do Cancelo to Dier/Dias with FT
If he doesn't play then I'll have Coufal vs Chelsea 1st sub...

Or I could keep Cancelo and improve bench by going Neco Williams to Charlie Taylor

Cancelo to Diaz and be done with it 🙂

                                Williams to Taylor makes sense.

Surely not Dias with that dreadful showing today

                              I've got 7 starters for GW 18 already (3 x MCY, 2 X AVL, 1 X TOT and 1 x BRI)

It's probably worth me just bringing in 4 more starters isn't it and then free hitting in GW19?

                                I’m in the same boat.
Thinking about playing no chips over this period and treating both GWs in a block.
Everyone plays twice in 18 and 19 combined. What you lose in one you gain in the other .

Planning on doing the same myself, as I have similar numbers. Just looking for more into GW18 player's fixtures from GW20 onwards. If they have poor fixtures need to rethink that strategy. One example from what I have seen until now: Utd have Sheffield in 20 so maybe either keep Bruno in the gw18 team despite blank or use the FT to get him.

                              Martinez
                              Robertson Chilwell Cancelo

                              Forster Dallas Brewster Ferguson

                              2 FT, 0.3 itb

                              3. Foden >> Lookman / Soucek (Save 1FT)

Are you bringing Son back? How much value do you have tied up in him?
I’d be reluctant to drop him now if I still had him.
                                Quite like option 2.

                              1) or 2)? 🙂 (playing 3-5-2)

                              1) DCL and Walker -> Kane and max 4.9 def
                              2) Grealish and Walker -> Son and max 5.9 def

                              Current def:

                              Chilwell/Zouma/Walker (Dallas, Mitchell)
