Billy Lumsden previews three strikers to bring into your Sky Sports Fantasy Football teams as we enter the crunch time

Mini leagues, money, and more importantly bragging rights are at stake with just over a couple months of Fantasy Football action left to navigate.

There are some pivotal decisions, and transfers, that will need to be made. The striking region will be more telling than ever, with some big budget forwards to consider for the coming weeks. Could they fire you to glory?

Harry Kane – £11.7m

Johnstone owners profit as Newcastle devoid of ideas without attacking stars 3

What more is there to say about Harry Kane? A haul of 23 points against Crystal Palace last weekend, two goals and two assists earning him an MOTM, puts him on 215 for the season. Only one player has racked up more this season: Bruno Fernandes.

Posting 52 points from his last six, his upcoming fixtures are not too bad either. A north London derby awaits, where the Englishman registered 10 points in the reverse fixture, followed by a trip to Aston Villa (only eight teams play in this week), followed by another away trip to Newcastle.

Only the small percentage of 92.6 per cent of the top 1,000 are on board, so why would you miss out on recruiting his services from now until the end of the season? Kane could well finish at the top of the charts if his form in scoring and creating goals is to continue.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – £11.4m

Saka, Aubameyang return to Arsenal starting XI but Smith Rowe absent from squad

The Arsenal captain has nine Premier League goals to his name this season from 20 starts. Sometimes you forget that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is just one off the double-figure mark given his string of performances and blips throughout the season, but I believe that will come to a firm end with a decent goalscoring return for the rest of the campaign.

Aubameyang scored his first Premier League hat-trick against Leeds a few weeks ago, and followed that up with a goal and MOTM award at Burnley last weekend. Good times are certainly coming for the forward, so now would be the time to bring him in, with only 1.9 per cent of the top 1,000 relying on him currently.

If you are planning on coming away from some Manchester City players, he could be the option. You can get a 3-4-1 on Aubameyang, or Arsenal players, as they play Tottenham on the Sunday and travel to West Ham the week after, both weeks where the champions elect do not play. Leave him out at your own risk.

Diogo Jota – £9.1m

Diogo Jota recorded 51 points from his first nine games this season, starting only six across the campaign due to the injury he sustained earlier in the season. Nonetheless, he started against Fulham and got booked, though he fired three shots on target and created Mohamed Salah’s goal against RB Leipzig on Wednesday, which should inspire future Fantasy Football owners.

The promising aspect around Jota is his price tag of £9.1m. It is just under £3m cheaper than the most expensive player in the game Salah, and he could play in a more advanced position than his teammate to create and score plenty of chances that come his way. The Portuguese international currently sits in just 0.5 per cent of the top 1,000 teams.

Liverpool travel to Wolves on Monday Night Football, providing a great single day captaincy choice. They do play Arsenal and Manchester United, but with the top four now more important than ever, games against Aston Villa, Leeds, Newcastle, Southampton, West Brom, Burnley and Crystal Palace could be the time for Jota to strike.

Will you bring or keep any of these frontmen in your Fantasy Football XI for the remainder of the season? You can amend your Sky Sports Fantasy Football team here.

I had him at the start of the season. It's taking him time to adjust. Under Tuchel he's starting to find his feet.

I do like CHE fixtures GW30-34.

Getting him onboard now in a WC (8.2) is a risk, even in totally chancing mode, but if you don't gamble, you don't win.

Good luck whatever you choose. 😉

      6. Do Free Hits have to be differential?
        Deulofail
        • 9 Years
        4 years, 9 months ago

The guys on BlackBox think that FHers (in 29) will be looking specifically for differentials to make the most of the chip. For example, you'd get Lingard over Antonio because Antonio will be owned more by non-FHers. Or maybe Dunk over Veltman for the same reason, Does anyone else think like this? I mean, it's quite obviously not the way to do things, right?

The differential is playing the chip in the first place. If you end up with the exact same team as a non-FHer (unlikely), then so be it, your advantage was/is having a different team either side of the FH gameweek, while other managers were sacrificing points to build a GW29 team (for example). If you have more players than other managers by playing the FH, then your differential is also the additional players. Even if 8 of those players are the same (because they are the best choices), your chip is buying you 3-4 extra players, plus a bench, plus the advantage either side of the GW. If that doesn't feel like enough of an advantage, then you probably shouldn't have planned to play the FH (though you need to compare it to what you would get by playing the FH at another time, including the surrounding games, which is purely hypothetical and theoretical).

Really, you can only value your FH team in the context of your own team's situation anyway. If you are picking players based on the ownership of players by people who are not playing a chip, you are handing them an unnecessary advantage by not picking the best players. Just the same as during the other 37 GWs. Ownership doesn't matter, except if you want to use it as a way to determine which players are good by copying everyone else instead of playing your own game. And except if you need to make up more than (arbitrary number alert) 20 points per GW on your rival. And in that case, you are more likely to reduce your overall points by factoring ownership in than increase, but you have more chance of decreasing the gap by an extreme amount (although, again, more chance of increasing the gap than decreasing it).

Oh daym. Rant alert. I still need to unpack my shopping. I got beer to cool down before the Arsenal game. Apologies for any typos. Gotta rush...

Some random thoughts while I avoid real work -

Lingard over Antonio for example - people planned for Antonio for weeks, Lingard has been better, but because of blank gw28 folks don't get him...so he's a differential but also probably a better option as well.

I like FH for redundancy too - Kane, Son & Bale all together - Auba & Saka - 3x Brighton defense - usually if you trust a team for attack/defense you target the best value in that area and roll with it - FH let's you overload, and in doing that you get diffrentials.

But now you're arguing for differential by coverage. Just choose the best players. If it's 'overloaded' by one feature or another, then that is how you can describe it after the fact. But you shouldn't aim to overload by any feature, whether that be the team the players play for the colours of their shirt, their positions, or anything meta like that. Just overload on individuals with your highest projected points. No need to paint any other narrative about it.

sure, i get that differential for the differential sake makes little sense. but if the outcome of aiming for the most points leads to a differential team then so be it.

i guess i was looking at ways that a FH allows you to target points that leads to differential selections.

Maybe it's more about differential combinations than differential individuals - KDB, Salah, Son, Bruno are in no way differential, but owning all four? Only 0.67% in the top 10,000 (apparently...that seems super low)

Absolutely. The output of the decision-making process may or may not be differential. Looking at ownership combinations is also interesting, but still simply incidental, rather than deterministic when making decisions for me.

That said, it's useful to remember that you don't need to try to be different to actually be different. Making better decisions is the best way to stand out from the crowd and to get points, even though it will fail X amount of times, where X is variable and uncontrollable. But even decision-making is not comparable because you have your own team. Also, sometimes you do just want to have some fun. And that's one good reason to get a differential on your FH 🙂

I agree with the last part of this to some extent, e.g. a gamble on clean sheet for Brighton gives the potential for big returns, but the difference is it's only a gamble for 1 week, rather than messing up your team for future weeks like it would if you acquired them any other way (unless you were planning a WC soon after). So I would say there is the potential for 'differential in tactics' rather than 'differential in players' per se.

As for the main topic, no, not for me. I would want to get the players with the best chances of bringing in points this week. You might potentially seek out differentials if you were planning to do that anyway (to catch-up in a mini-league) but the reason you go to differentials wouldn't be because you were on FH, it's just the FH would give you infinite transfers so more opportunity to get differentials.

FH for me is very much about getting the best points I can, i.e. a very strong starting XI. As it happens with the way the fixtures have fallen budget isn't really a problem for GW29 FH, so you can have pretty much any team you want and still have a bench of nailed on players if you want. Now Bamford looks injured I'm actually considering Lacazette simply because I don't need the funds for elsewhere in the team and I'm guarenteed to have a sub to come on if he doesn't play (just have to hope he doesn't get a 5min cameo!).

            I am going

            Sanchez
            Dunk Veltman Aina Reguilon
            Auba Saka Lingard Son
            Maja Kane

Just going with my personal predictions of the 4 games.

Brighton Spurs Fulham Cs and an open game between West ham and Arsenal.

Maja seems like differential searching. Why him over Antonio?

Incidentally I can imagine Arsenal Hammers being a tight one. Both looking for CSs. But who knows? I wouldn't like to try and cover any result. The players are an important factor! 😀

                We have different opinions.
I am predicting a 2-1 Arsenal win and Fulham 2 nil win.
                Ownership doesn t matter imo.

            Really excellent post.

The same or similar fallacy can be observed with the TC chip. Some people seem reluctant to play it in a week and on a player where it’s perceived many others will because they want to ‘gain’ more from it.

            Good points.

I like your comment about differentiating during surrounding gws which effectively is what I am doing following my gw26 wildcard e.g. allows me to go Barnes to mount

I only have 4 for gw29 and will fh the best 11 in- if that means I have 8 of the same players in as a non fher so be it

Get the players who will score the most points.

When did things become so complicated?

I guess the basics of the game is to pick the team that scores the most points. That suggests the free hit should be used to bring in who you think will score the most, regardless of who anyone else has.

Having said that, if your aim is to be better than another person in a league, then you have the opportunity to pick different players to try and outscore them at the risk of losing further ground.

If you're mini league focused, i think a balanced approach is more sensible. Pick differentials in positions where the ceiling for the established player is significantly lower than that of your diffetential. Keep established players with a high floor

              Why would you sell Reguilon...

It makes no sense. He will start this weekend too and has a game in 29.

I already have Son and Kane, so I have to sacrifice Reguillon to get Bale, and Spurs offense seems more potent than their defence right now. My plan includes getting Veltman for Stones GW29. That would give me 11 starters with only one hit this week

Gotta throw the dried chicken bones on the floor and read their meaning at least once a season.

                Bale (c).
