In this first instalment, the FPL BlackBox co-host and Andy chat about Jack Grealish (£8.0m), Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Danny Ings (£8.0m) before launching into a discussion on their latest drafts.

Mark explains his 3-5-2 set-up, premium midfielder choices and omission of Bruno Fernandes (£12.5m).

Andy throws his own selections under the spotlight, explaining his preference for a 3-4-3 and inclusion of Harvey Barnes (£7.0m).

    Do you like it?

    No TAA, 433, but essy to get Kane later if I pick Vardy to start. Plan to downgrade Bruno to Son and upgrade Vardy to Kane.

    Harrison (no other Leeds attack)
    Benrahma (double with Antonio)
    Can’t stretch to a 6.5, Benrahma has the fixtures and the form/confidence. Harrison more nailed on and avoids a double up

      Too risky. No guarantee Amertey starts. I'm on a 352 also. I have Amertey and Obafemi on my bench, but the other sub is a guaranteed 4.5 defender starter, who can cover any position.

          To be honest having a Arsenal defender isn't bad as I'm sure they had the 3rd best defensive record last season only behind Man City & Chelsea and I personally think Ben White will only improve that but if you choose Chambers over White I totally see where you are coming from because of his attacking threat

          We have the same mid except I have Sancho + Buendia over Greenwood + Havertz.

      They have not agreed terms for new contract. Fredericks has been playing a lot in preseason while Coufal been still on holiday. Not surprised if Fredericks starts at least first game maybe GW2 too. Not a hammer fan.

      WH fan here. He is fine mate, he has been at the club 5 mins, came over from Czech league on a low contract, played superb and now wants a bit of parity. He will get it, looking like January if he carries on with the form.

          Not really thinking about it too much yet

          Personally think both Bam and Raph are decent still. They will go full pelt at OT and they will cause some havoc anyway. Wouldn't want the defence just yet. Same to apply in other early ones.

          And - said this a few times - I'm really dubious about picking mid priced types with a focus on fixture runs - they're all too flakey to rely on for those sorts of returns . I'm just going with the ones I think will play, are class and I'll want to keep. I'm also looking at 5 fixtures on the ticker and not 3

            Me too. I still have Raph and Bam in my starting lineup. Mind you, two of my back three are Shaw and Maguire, so setting up for a few GW's means GW1 will be awful!

      They’re not really big pre-seasoners - They were beaten 3-0 by Stoke before last season kicked off, and were beaten 4-2 by Al-Ittihad before their championship promotion season

        I was sort of expecting this to be the pattern and was about to research it.

        They have a good early season record under Bielsa (once you make allowances for last season fixtures and think a bit) but that I'm hypothesising comes from the heavy murder ball work which could well interfere with actual games in preseason.

    Thoughts on double Brighton defence? I have Sanchez and Veltman in my draft

    From their first 8 games, 5 have a 2 fixture difficulty rating and can rotate well with Ayling on the other 3 games.

    If they keep clean sheets in 3 from those 5, it would be considered a successful gambit right?

      Yeh, there's just the issue of multiple injuries in defence. Are they going to have to start with Duffy? I'd like some assurance that injuries to Dunk and Burn will have cleared up.

        I remember Duffy was all the rage a few seasons back with some even triple captaining him!!

        Didn't know about Dunk's injury though. Brighton have a far stronger defence when he plays.

        I think that would impact my decision on whether to go double defence for Brighton

    Don’t pick him, because you won’t want to transfer him out? What?

    Pick Mane because he’s easier to transfer out than Bruno?

    All a bit wish washy/trying to trick yourself type stuff & a bit weird really

        My rant from last night:

        So I'm watching Mark Suthern's draft youtube. I'm listening to his reasoning but it just doesn't work for me.

        1. Don't own Bruno cos you won't want to sell him when you decide to go for Kane (or Lukaku).
        2. Get Mane instead - he has 2 good fixtures GW1-2, then Chelsea GW3 so you'd have no compunction dumping him then.

        What doesn't work for me is both City and Chelsea move into a nasty run of fixtures just then, while United's are great.
        It makes far more sense to me to start Bruno and hold him until the great fixture turn GW7. Then wildcard to catch Chelsea's great run - new striker and all, and pile up City assets at that point. It's also the point the fixtures turn bad for United and, to an extent Liverpool too.

        Has anybody watched it and support's Mark's tactic? I know he's an infinitely better player than me, but it just seems plain wrong....

        ....I don't even know if he's considered as he doesn't mention it that he'd be buying Lukaku or Kane just as they plough into tricky fixtures. Yeah, they're fixture-proof, can score against anyone, but to deliberately opt for that rather than Bruno's easy fixtures seems perverse.

          I watched him already and he saved 1.0 ITB for upgrading Mahrez to Son too. I feel that's a bit too much planned future transfers. Two 5.5 mids where not much good options in that price point and double Brentford attacks also surprised me.

          Yeah plus the scramble for Utd assets is going to be biblical if the Leeds game is a goal fest

          Watch the wildcards fly if Utd score 3 or 4 in GW1 when people realise they have Southampton, Wolves, Newcastle lined up as their next 3 fixtures…

          But no - the pros will avoid Bruno because “you won’t want to transfer him out before Newcastle GW4” 😆

          This is how people’s teams get absolutely wrecked following advice like this
