FPL team reveals: Scoutcast regular Seb is poised to pick a prudent plan

The first thing to address with this ‘team reveal’ is that I would not necessarily call it that. This is more of a ‘draft reveal’.

My approach this pre-season has been to draft a number of teams, each based around different strategies, such as big at the back, heavy in midfield or a three £10m+ player team. From these, I will select my final team to start the season. Whilst some tinkering will naturally occur, and even be necessary in the case of late team news, I will generally avoid this in favour of switching between entire drafts rather than individual players.

The idea here is to remove those last-minute, ill-formed, impulsive player swaps that more often than not make our teams worse than they do better. I know I can be prone to second-guessing myself come the deadline, so I’m going to attempt to remove that to some degree by allowing myself to select only from some pre-formed, well-reasoned and rationally researched teams.

In this way, if I do suddenly fancy a player from a certain price bracket or wonder what happens with an extra premium, I’ve got the broad answer already thought-out and primed for implementation, complete with all the considerations that come with that, rather than needing to rejig an entire team with minutes to go until the big kick-off.

This does of course mean there may be some players that I have intentionally or unintentionally rejected out of hand, due to them being neither in, nor attainable in, any of my drafts, but I am okay with that. We all do that to some degree, whether we realise it or not. No one considers all 500+ players at once when thinking about their line-up. We shorten this list to something more manageable in our heads and pick from there, be that because they are players we are familiar with, players we have seen mentioned elsewhere or because they have already appeared in one of our many drafts over the summer.

With that being said, in this article I’d like to share the team I think I am most likely to go with on Friday night: the ‘BruNO draft’.

There are some question marks around whether Buendia will start but he should be fine. More questions around Barnes being rotated.

Don't fancy this kind of Brunoless draft at all tbh. Leaves you with a bit of a ballache if/when Lukaku fires

No idea why we are not seeing TAA-less drafts that allow people both Bruno and Salah as big captain choices and big cash cows to release Lukaku funds from when it becomes apparent that one of them may represent poorer value than Lukaku, or Kane.

TAA is freaking great, but he is not essential at all. You will almost never consider capping him and 5.5-6-5 defenders and midfielders offer comparable value

    1. jason_ni
      • 10 Years
      5 years, 6 days ago

TAA for me is as good as any 7.5 mf option.

Prob any mf up to 9 mill even.

      Id sacrifice those before TAA.

I wouldn't choose to own players at those price points at this moment in time.

My point is about owning a defender who you will almost certainly never captain, and who has extremely good value replacement options that free up cash. Decent 4.5-5.5 defenders are likely to range from 100-175 points. Midfield doesn't affect compatible value, not as reliably or predictably. So I'm just interested why a player such as this has become untouchable in the template, but redistributing funds from big captain options and hampering flexibility to adapt to Kane and Lukaku appears to be favoured.

Hi all! Which team would you rather?

    Team 1 - Bench Boost GW1

    Sanchez

    TAA / Shaw / Coufal

    Salah / Bruno / Barnes / Benrahma

    Ings / Antonio / Toney

Bench: Raya / Mbeumo / Tsimikas / Amartey

    Team 2 - With Son

    Sanchez

    TAA / Shaw / Coufal / Tsimikas

    Salah / Bruno / Son / Barnes

    Antonio / Toney

Bench: Steele / Ayling / Gilmour / Perica

It seems taken for granted on here that Brentford are going to be scoring freely, but if going for bench boost, I'm not sure I'd want double Brentford before I'd seen how they played.

Is this fairly accurate for the main 4.0 def options?

    - Tsimikas = should start the first 3
    - Amartey = should start tomorrow then dropped
    - Livramento = not first choice but chance of breaking into the team
    - Omobamidele = likely first choice as things stand
    - Manquilo = not first choice unless injuries occur
