FPL team reveals: Scoutcast regular Seb is poised to pick a prudent plan

The first thing to address with this ‘team reveal’ is that I would not necessarily call it that. This is more of a ‘draft reveal’.

My approach this pre-season has been to draft a number of teams, each based around different strategies, such as big at the back, heavy in midfield or a three £10m+ player team. From these, I will select my final team to start the season. Whilst some tinkering will naturally occur, and even be necessary in the case of late team news, I will generally avoid this in favour of switching between entire drafts rather than individual players.

The idea here is to remove those last-minute, ill-formed, impulsive player swaps that more often than not make our teams worse than they do better. I know I can be prone to second-guessing myself come the deadline, so I’m going to attempt to remove that to some degree by allowing myself to select only from some pre-formed, well-reasoned and rationally researched teams.

In this way, if I do suddenly fancy a player from a certain price bracket or wonder what happens with an extra premium, I’ve got the broad answer already thought-out and primed for implementation, complete with all the considerations that come with that, rather than needing to rejig an entire team with minutes to go until the big kick-off.

This does of course mean there may be some players that I have intentionally or unintentionally rejected out of hand, due to them being neither in, nor attainable in, any of my drafts, but I am okay with that. We all do that to some degree, whether we realise it or not. No one considers all 500+ players at once when thinking about their line-up. We shorten this list to something more manageable in our heads and pick from there, be that because they are players we are familiar with, players we have seen mentioned elsewhere or because they have already appeared in one of our many drafts over the summer.

With that being said, in this article I’d like to share the team I think I am most likely to go with on Friday night: the ‘BruNO draft’.

    Hmm.. start the season with

    A) Son & Raphinha
    B) Mahrez & Gundogan

I really like B but City Vs Norwich GW2 could be a goalfest

    Best option out of these?

    A) Ings, Mahrez & Raphinha
    B) Toney, Son & Raphinha + 0.5m
    C) Toney, Mahrez & Jota + 0.5m (No Tsimikas)

The 0.5m saved in options B/C lets me upgrade one of my two 4.0m defender to a 4.5m.

Yes, that was on my mind as well. I really want the extra .5 for that exact same reason but figured I would potentially do a straight swap of Greenwood > Gundo or downgrade Ings > Watkins and then Greenwoord > Grealish.

Quick question on tsimikas... if you're not going to play him (I might once or twice but dont really need to as i have 4 other starting defenders in 343) & dont want to wildcard til at least GW7, is it even worth picking him over a non-playing 4m def? All my other subs are starters (veltman, white, gilmour). Dont want to lose team value when everyone sells him. First time playing fpl tho so not sure about these team value decisions. Thanks

Probably not for the reasons mentioned.

Plus you might want to triple up on Liverpool (GW4-6?) at some point and he would block that.

If not playing him, I would pick a diff 4.0 (maybe Manquillo). He's also taking up a Pool space that you might want to use.
