Son Heung-min (£10.1m) and Mason Greenwood (£7.6m) both scored on Sunday, while Chris Wood (£6.9m) and Patrick Bamford (£7.9m) also found the back of the net to open their 2021/22 accounts.

However, it was a day to forget for those who handed Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) the armband, as the Portuguese picked up a booking and returned just two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points at Molineux.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of the day’s games but in the meantime, our resurrected Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

KEY FPL TALKING POINTS

  • Son produced his second double-digit haul of the season against Watford, as his first-half free-kick made it three wins from three for Tottenham Hotspur. The South Korean international has now scored 10 goals, supplied seven assists and picked up 20 FPL bonus points in his last 19 home matches.
  • Following their 1-0 win, Spurs are yet to concede a goal this season. However, they have given up 31 shots – only Burnley (42), Arsenal (39) and Leicester City (32) have allowed more.
  • Harry Kane (£12.3m) made his return to Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI, but produced just one FPL point as he missed a couple of late openings on his first Premier League appearance of the season.
  • Daniel Bachmann (£4.5m) made seven saves in Gameweek 3, compared to just one across the opening two matches. Moussa Sissoko (£4.5m) also made his Watford debut, and as a result, hands FPL managers another budget midfielder to consider.
  • Wood and Bamford both found the back of the net at Turf Moor, their first goals of 2021/22.
  • Following today’s win, Manchester United are now unbeaten in their last 28 Premier League away matches (W18 D10), which is a new record for the longest unbeaten away run in English Football League history
  • Greenwood’s winner means that he has now scored three goals in as many games this season, and is three FPL points ahead of teammate Fernandes.
  • Paul Pogba (£7.7m) performed in a deeper midfield role at Molinuex today, which meant he only touched the ball once in Wolves’ penalty area and registered a single goal attempt.

Paul Pogba’s touch heatmap in Gameweeks 1+2 (left) and Gameweek 3 (right)

INJURY WATCH

Sean Dyche made just one change to his Burnley starting XI, with Ashley Westwood (£5.4m) recovering from a toe injury to replace Jack Cork (£4.5m) in the Clarets engine room.

Diego Llorente (£4.5m) returned from injury for Leeds United, but Junior Firpo (£4.9m) and Mateusz Klich (£5.5m) were both missing with Covid.

For Wolves, Willy Boly (£4.9m) and Daniel Podence (£5.5m) returned as substitutes, while Edinson Cavani (£8.5m) arrived off the bench for Manchester United on 53 minutes, having been granted additional leave time on the back of his Copa America exploits.

STAT WATCH – GAMEWEEK 3

Following today’s matches, Wolves duo Adama Traoré (£6.0m) and Raúl Jiménez (£7.4m) both rank amongst the top five players for shots, with 12 each, over the opening three rounds.

The pair also feature amongst the division’s top chance creators, which does suggest that they could offer value from Gameweek 4 onwards, when their fixtures ease.

Traoré now trails only Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) for penalty area touches, with 27, a total he shares with Michail Antonio (£7.9m).

Still early days but these are the moves I'm considering over the break. Which would you prefer?

    A) Ings ➡️ Jiménez
    B) Ings ➡️ DCL
    C) Ings + Bruno ➡️ Ronaldo + Jota (-4)

If Salah can't play in GW4, then C is the obvious move I think.

Otherwise I'd do B. Too early to move for Jiminez at this stage imho.

How's DCL's toe? No point in resting for a fortnight only to come back before it's healed properly - thus requiring more weekly injections... Could miss GW 4..?

I've been trying to find a proper mid option from Adama, Sarr, Torres, Gray, Benrahma and probably can resist the Adama temptation.

Watching Wolves been fun recent weeks and they have to finally find the end product.

    Looking for some advice:

    Meslier, Bachmann
    Duffy, TAA, Tsimikas, Shaw, Coufal
    Gilmour, Barnes, Salah, Bruno, Benrahma
    Toney, Ings, Antonio.

Don't think I need to WC, got 2 FT, but looking at:

    Barnes - Gray
    Bruno - Greenwood
    Ings - DCL (-4)

Will have a bit of bank left over for a Lukaku/CR7 move in a week or two

I think it's definitely possible. I'm on WC so it won't bother me greatly as I just want to have the move done but with him only returning fairly late before that weekend after internationals I can see it happening.

Yeah I’m on WC too mate, have Lukaku in as a place holder atm, and will just downgrade someone if he’s 12.5, but even still I may stick with Lukaku for Villa and move him to Ronaldo straight after, have Greenwood in my team

Yeah that'd probably be fine. I wouldn't say we'll know for sure before deadline honestly though, I'd put Solskjaer in the same category as Nuno, Smith and Pep when it comes to injuries, fitness and availability, I remember the amount of times last season and before when he bulled about Pogba and Rashford being ready for the next week so often when (especially with Pogba) it'd end up being 4 or 5 weeks before returns. I have Lukaku already before WC and plan on keeping so my dilemma isn't like yours but that sounds like a sound plan.

Yeah I agree mate with ole, and he said he is ‘likely’ going straight into the starting line up with leaves me slightly sceptical for the first game, yeah he does it a lot mate, there was a defender aswell, cannot remember which that he said would start and didn’t!! I’m sure when Ronaldo gets a added il probably end up trying to get him In aswell as Lukaku too!! Haha il have Ronaldo fever like us all I think so won’t be able to resist!!!

Thinking of getting Lukaku GW4 on wildcard vs Villa (No Martinez) over Ronaldo. Think there's potential for him to outscore CR7 on this occasion.

Is this a needless risk though if the vast majority will be bringing Ronaldo in and captaining him this week?

Alot will be on wc and alot of casuals will flock to ronaldo. I think its pretty 50/50 who will perform better so either play safe and go with the majority and get ronaldo or gamble without which could pay off.

Personally I'd hold on Ronaldo. I've gone Ings -> DCL - even with DCL's toe injury and minor thigh strain, it looks like he'll play against Burnley. DCL has got great fixtures and has form - seems good value to me.

Solskjaer warned his Manchester United forwards Ronaldo would likely be going straight into the first team.

The Norwegian added: "He is not signing to sit on the bench. He is going to make us a better team.

"We need to get all the paperwork done, hopefully we can get that sorted and we can announce it 100 per cent.

"Then he is away with Portugal, they have three games, his last game is Tuesday (September 7) and then we can get him back to Manchester and involved as soon as possible."

Would 2ft's and some cash ITB be enough here to avoid a WC or does WC look the best option either way?

Barnes + Ings -> 6.3m (Thinking Sarr or Gray) + Lukaku and maybe a -4 (or -8) to change either (or both) Pereira/Wilson.

    Sanchez
    Pereira, TAA, Coufal.
    Salah, Benrahma, Greenwood, Barnes.
    Wilson, Ings, Antonio.

    A) Ings + Tsimikas -> DCL + Livramento/Duffy
    B) Ings + Fernandes -> Ronaldo + F. Torres

Something else. Like to bank on Tsimikas before the drop. Leaning towards A. Worried about Greenwood though. Will he Play? 3 goals in 3 games could/should justify playing him over one of Rashford/Sancho. Not sure Ferran Torres is nailed either. What happens when KDB is back?

Greenwood is more nailed than people think imo, he's looked great so far, I can't see him being dropped. I think Ole will play Sancho from the left, with a Sancho-Ronaldo-Greenwood front three. When Rashford is fit, it becomes more difficult to predict.

He would probably go up by +0.3 too before Newcastle if not locked due to being newly added 😀
      It's crazy.
It's a wait and see for me. If he is on pens/direct free kicks/plays up top and all that directly from the start I would obviously also move Bruno -> CR7, but I do not fear CR7 in that single game having Bruno in my team. If CR7 scores chances are Bruno will get an assist added to make up for it.
Also how crazy would it be for all to ditch Bruno just to watch him score on penalty with Ronaldo on the pitch? 😀

I need to see it to believe it 🙂
Bruno made that club look great again. He has been a beast on the penalties so far. He has played nearly every minute, and the fans love him.

In comes the legend, and he might/might not take them. Bruno may just have said to him: 'hey friend come on over - you can be on penalties if you'd like'"

We don't know for sure, but I have other transfers and will take it like a man if Ronaldo bangs in 15 points while Bruno stays quiet on 3. Atleast I know which transfers to make before GW5 😉

Yeah. I have other fires to put out in my team and trying to avoid prioritizing Bruno -> Ronaldo transfer right of the bat, over others at least for the next GW. It's not like Bruno is going to withdraw into a more defensive role.

The only way possible to get in Lukaku would be DCL and Trent out, looking at Coady but very unsure it’s a good idea… Might just go Kane to Lukaku (c)

My initial thoughts were red too. But I think there is less intent than the Xhaka one and it wasn't two footed.

I've come to the conclusion that price changes need to become much more transparent than they are now.

It is unsportsmanlike at best, and unfair at worse.

If your like me then part of this game is reacting to price changes and making changes on that basis.

Lukaku is a perfect example. Some brought him in with the expectation that he would rise in price. A tactical decision that made alot of sense, however despite his ownership doubling there hasn't been one price rise. If players knew he was locked would they have made the same decision? I know I wouldn't have.

FPL towers need to provide more clarity surrounding a clear part of the game. I dont really understand why it needs to be secret?

        That's not the point.

The point is that it's clearly and intrinsically part of the game. That being the case why not make it transparent.

It's akin to literally moving the goal posts.

moving goal posts would be if they locked lukaku but not other new signings.

can wait and see what happens to ronaldo's price before coming to conclusion on consistency.

I think it is pretty common for Signings post GW1 to remain 'locked' for a bit.

Unlike players that came into the system early, there is no way to assess their 'baseline' ownership at start of GW1. Transfers work on a % of ownership basis. Otherwise any marquee signing post start of season would definitely see multiple price increases.

        • 17 Years

its not common, its a rule (unless the algorithm has changed this year). they are price locked for 7 days.

transfer rises are absolute (based on net transfer in exceeding a fixed threshold)
transfer declines are relative (based on net transfer out as a % of ownership)

If i'm dead set on a player and have exact money, I would make the transfer early but wouldn't care if they were to rise or not as i would then own the player I wanted.

Are you upset that your new player didn't rise? What does it matter?

Well no not particularly, my argument is that it's part of the game.

It matter as it influences the decision making process, and so it become an integral part of the game.

That being the case I think that it need to be clearer so that the decision making process can be more informed.

It is part of the game, and thats what makes the game the best incarnation of fantasy football and why 7.5m play it.

The price algorithm has been reverse engineered and its pretty accurate, so serious managers can factor it into their decision making.

Personally would look to fit in 3 premiums, but for your criteria:

      Salah Benrahma Torres Jota
      Ronaldo Antonio DCL

I think that fairly covers the big teams with good fixtures - plus the WH Bandwagon for point me and price rises.

(Might be worth Raphinha over Torres though after Leeds v LFC.)

    Ronaldo vs Lukaku

Any Serie A fantasy players here? How would Ronaldo (at Juventus) compare to Lukaku (at inter) as an FPL asset?

Both are coming from the same league, and are expected to play similar roles for their new teams as what they were doing in Italy.

    1. Dr. Rog

Ronaldo has the short term fixtures for sure.

Lukaku is a flat track bully as we well know. Don’t fancy many returns in GW5&6 so avoiding until GW7, unless I fancy a premium forward Hokey Cokey. Not sure rest of team is in a good enough state to afford such luxurious transfers.

    3. Ruth_NZ

Last season, CR7 had 29 goals in 33 Serie A games with an xG of 29.84, so pretty much bang on. Lukaku had 24 goals in similar minutes from an xG of 23.43. However the noted selfishness of Ronaldo was apparent in a low xA of 3.85 (3 assists) whereas Lukaku had 11 assists from an xA of 8.39. Taking assist threat and goal threat combined there wasn't much between them. Penalties comprised roughly 20% of Ronaldo's goal tally; he scored 6 in league play and also missed two. 6 of Lukaku's goals came from penalties too.

Ronaldo was more of a flat-track bully (fixture dependent). He had 2 attacking contributions in a game (GG or GA) 9 times in Serie A last season, against Roma (7th), Spezia (15th), Cagliari (16th), Genoa (11th), Parma (20th), Udinese (14th), Crotone (19th), Cagliari again (16th), Udinese again (14th). So all but one of the 9 events came against bottom-half teams.

Lukaku also had 2 attacking contributions in a game 9 times but in his case it was more apparently random - 5 times against bottom-half teams and 4 times against top-half teams.

To complete the picture, Chelsea and United are roughly similar in attacking potential based on last season. United had a cumulative xG of 63.17 though they overshot it with 73 goals. Chelsea had a better xG of 68.66 but undershot it with 58 goals (think of all those Werner misses!). Maybe with Sancho added, United will improve this season but you'd have to still say that the two teams a broadly similar in terms of attacking potential.

A lot depends on whether CR7 has penalties at United. One assumes so but we don't as yet know.

      xG/xA numbers are from understat.com
