The Fantasy Premier League (FPL) captaincy debate for Gameweek 4 has been completely turned on its head by the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) at Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side host Newcastle United on Saturday, thrusting their assets into the spotlight, but there are other options on the radar too, including Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m), Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Harry Kane (£12.3m) and of course, the in-form Michail Antonio (£7.9m).

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 4 captain poll, before then analysing the leading candidates, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Unsurprisingly, Ronaldo is the runaway leader in this week’s captain poll, gaining 42.7% of votes so far, with Salah currently sitting in second, backed by 17.95%.

Fernandes occupies third place with 9.85% of votes, with the top-five list completed by Lukaku and Antonio, with 7.53% and 4.25% respectively.

CRISTIANO RONALDO AND BRUNO FERNANDES

HOW HAS CAPTAIN SENSIBLE PERFORMED SO FAR THIS SEASON?

      Tough One

But if you are not playing White vs Norwich home. then what is the point of having him?

      1. Pasqualinho
        5 years, 1 month ago

For me it's for when he gets a lucky clean sheet and bonus and subs in for when one of my Man City players are periodically benched.

if he isnt part of rotation and you hope for a lucky score during peptation, you may as well go down to a livramento or williams

          1. Pasqualinho
            5 years, 1 month ago

Do they have a better chance of a lucky CS and bonus when I get Pepped? And is that really worth a transfer?

            1. Harry the Hack
              5 years, 1 month ago

No, not worth a transfer now, but if you only play him when forced to rather than rotate based on fixtures you should take him out on your next WC

He (was) a 4.5m defender. Fairly common to have 1 or 2 of those on your bench is it not

Not if they don't make your field when playing at home against Norwich. Its 0.5 wasted

Never needed a player to come off your bench? Perfect example this week, I have Raphinha who annoyingly looks like he won't play....def don't want to sell him with Leeds fixtures so I'm quite happy to have White first on my bench

            1. Harry the Hack
              5 years, 1 month ago

You are missing the point. Absolutely nothing wrong with having bench players that you expect more than 2 from. But its silly to only think of them as fill ins rather than field them when their fixtures are nice

      Yeah

  5. jason_ni

I probably should bring in cr7, seeing as that was my initial plan.

    1) Ings to Ronaldo ( 3.5 itb for future upgrades)
    2) Scarlett to Ronaldo ( moving to 3-4-3 and 0 itb)

    1. Lemongrab

      1. Now is the time to ditch Ings.

      1. jason_ni

Probably right, but he's the kind of player who can pop up with a goal from no where, and not beyond realm of possibilities for him to score v Chelsea.
Him losing pens is another reason to ship him I guess.

        1. Lemongrab
          5 years, 1 month ago

His stats are awful and Villa's next 4 fixtures are bad. Might score but there's definitely better value elsewhere. I'm getting rid this week too.

  6. DandyDon

Bring in Sarr or Raphina this week for a -4 or play Duffy and get in Raphina for free next week?
Maddison was a bad first week pick but at least no worse than Barnes. Second price drop this week means I can’t get in Torres by 0.1

    1. Lemongrab
      5 years, 1 month ago

I wouldn't take the -4 to bring in Raphina, just wait a week and play Duffy.

    TAA - Shaw - Ayling
    Salah - Greenwoord - Bruno - Benrahma

Anyone able to suggest any changes at all to my final WC draft? 0.2m in the bank, will look to bring Raph in later.

    Sa
    Trent - Christiensen - Coady
    Salah - Jota - Torres - Traore
    DCL - CR7 - Antonio

Bench: Steele - Sissoko - Williams - Livramento

What 4.5 gk do people like best on a WC?

    1. Pompel

      I would go Guaita.

      1. Gabbiadini
        5 years, 1 month ago

Interesting. I'm not convinced by Palace defensively.
also, a slight knock is the 2nd gk (Butland) being 4.5.

        1. Pompel
          • Fantasy Football Scout Member
          5 years, 1 month ago

Valid point, but then only 3 big chances conceded so far by Palace, equaling e.g. Liverpool . But didn't realise back-up keeper is 4.5, that's a spanner in the works.

          1. Gabbiadini
            5 years, 1 month ago

Fair point, wasn't aware of that statistic.
            Yeh :/

    2. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      5 years, 1 month ago

I've had Sanchez so far and contemplated moving to Raya or Guaita but Brighton are just a better defensive unit than those and longterm have better fixtures

      1. Gabbiadini
        5 years, 1 month ago

I have Sanchez/Steele at the moment, however, on a WC I would bring in Duffy.
Does double Brighton, swing things at all?

        1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
          5 years, 1 month ago

I have Duffy too although he'd be benched most weeks. If you know you'll have to play him most weeks then yeah that's a bit tougher, I'd probably take a chance on someone else as I don't like defensive double-ups unless it's someone like Chelsea. If you'll only play him the odd week if he has a good fixture then I'd still consider it

          1. Gabbiadini
            5 years, 1 month ago

Yeah, well I'm looking at a structure that allows Salah, Ronaldo and Lukaku so it would be Duffy rotating with Livramento & Amartey/Williams as a 3rd defender.

    3. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      5 years, 1 month ago

Bachmann could be worth a punt - he had his save game dialled in vs. Spurs after a quiet first two games

Watford conceded the least goals in the championship last season (30 conceded in 46 games) and were particularly stingy at home (12 conceded in 23 games)

Better fixtures in the short term so he should have one or two cleansheets in him hopefully

      1. Gabbiadini
        5 years, 1 month ago

Yes, I am possibly bringing in Duffy on a WC so definitely of keen interest in this.

      2. Pompel
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        5 years, 1 month ago

Good fixtures next three, but then turn quite dire from GWs 7-15. He does have the advantage of a 4.0 understudy, though

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          5 years, 1 month ago

Yeah the 4.0 was the other positive thing he has going actually forgot about that

GW7 onwards is a bit of a bollocks alright though

          1. Pompel
            • Fantasy Football Scout Member
            5 years, 1 month ago

I might stick with Sanchez after all then, if not going for one the £5m's . The lack of 4.0m back-up for Guaita put me off him

            1. Gabbiadini
              5 years, 1 month ago

Out of interest do you have Duffy?

                • Fantasy Football Scout Member
                5 years, 1 month ago

Nope. Started with Veltman, the useless sob, but have sold him now

                1. Gabbiadini
                  5 years, 1 month ago

Yeh. In that case, I'd almost certainly be going Sanchez & Steele, yes.

          2. Gabbiadini
            5 years, 1 month ago

Someone else that has a 4.0 understudy but even better long term fixtures is Krul at Norwich.
Would take some real steel to make that selection though.

      Anytime goalscorer odds are:
      A. 1.73
      B. 1.80
      C. 1.65

But with assists etc thrown in probably Bruno (he has has by far the best chance of being involved in a smashing)

      To score 4 or more:
      Liverpool - 6.5
      Utd - 3.4
      Chelsea - 5.0

PP have CR7 at 1.44 - I'd say Kaku will have dropped down to that level by 17:15 tomorrow evening if you fancied a bit of arbitrage speculation

1.62 to 1.44 could still lock in a fair bit of profit...

Only problem is if he's benched & comes on late you're probably screwed - and its still gambling either way of course, he may not continue to fall - but it's a serious run of money seems to be coming in for him

                1. Harry the Hack
                  5 years, 1 month ago

Good grief, sportsbet (who are owned by PP) have Kaku at 1.53! Take those assist odds with a grain of salt if creating your own 'anytime involvement' calcs!

though being the only offerers, it does mean they are very stingy.. for reference Ronaldo anytime assist is 5 - as if!

Looks good, that midfield is mad risky though. All could be rotated.

Yeah agreed, think I’d one want more garunteed starter in midfield

Interesting, lots of upside. Could be giving yourself a ton of headaches though and I don't like no Salah and TAA.

    3. FCSB
      5 years, 1 month ago

I think you need TAA or Salah, otherwise v nice

Ps will Veltman start for you this weekend?

    A) Barnes -> Traore

    C) Greenwood->Jota

    Leaning A at the moment

I think he’s a great option just can’t ignore Traore’s underlying numbers and fixtures.

How many people activated their wildcards for this GW? I'm holding on, even if I have to take hits. My rank for this stage of the season is decent enough.

    Sanchez Bachmann
    AWB Konsa Coufal Keane Tsmikas
    Salah Son Greenwood Raphinha Gilmour
    DCL Antonio Wilson

    1FT £2.3m ITB

All of a sudden I don’t like my team, should I Wildcard? Son, DCL, Konsa, Wilson flagged, Raphinha ineligible or save Wildcard and do

    Konsa & Gilmour > Christensen & Sarr

The latter - too many uncertainties to WC this early
