Following our round-ups of Saturday and Sunday’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) action, our Scout Notes cover all the Gameweek 11 matches in more depth.

All stats and graphics in this article are taken from our Premium Members Area, where there is still a seven-day free trial available.

Crystal Palace 2-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

  • Goals: Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m), Conor Gallagher (£5.8m)
  • Assists: James McArthur (£4.5m)
  • Bonus: Gallagher x3, Cheikhou Kouyate (£4.5m) x2, Marc Guehi (£4.5m) x2

PALACE PLAYERS IN FPL DEMAND

Gallagher the most-bought FPL player of Gameweek 12 after latest haul 3

Last week we wrote about goals and growing FPL demand for Conor Gallagher (£5.8m) and Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m), an impressive showing from Crystal Palace’s backline, the bonus points potential of Marc Guehi (£4.5m) and a 2-0 win for Patrick Vieira’s ever-improving troops.

For Gameweek 11, read Gameweek 10.

A Wolverhampton Wanderers side who had been unbeaten in their five previous Premier League matches were comfortably swatted aside at Selhurst Park on Saturday and reduced to just four shots on goal, the lowest tally across the division in Gameweek 11. Only one of those efforts came from open play.

The second-best team in the league for fewest expected goals conceded (xGC) in 2021/22, 10th-place Palace’s defensive performances are made all the more impressive when we consider that Manchester United are the only top-half club who the Eagles have yet to face.

Above: Palace’s next nine fixtures

We won’t bother to rehash what we wrote last week but Gallagher – whose strike against Wolves was a slightly fortuitous one given the deflection involved – has now risen to an impressive second in the midfielders’ points table behind runaway leader Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), with his season total of 64 points higher than even what Michail Antonio (£8.2m) and Jamie Vardy (£10.8m) have managed.

Zaha, meanwhile, made it five attacking returns in his last six starts with a goal of his own on Saturday.

“I strongly believe that he can go to a different level. He can score more goals, and he can make more assists – he can be more decisive. He has the confidence of the football club, of myself and my staff, and we believe how good he can be for the football club and for himself to go to a different level. He can, and he will do it. I guarantee that he will do it.” – Patrick Vieira on Wilfried Zaha

“His performance has been terrific – it’s been excellent. It’s just about how he closes people down and the energy he is giving the team. He is in a really good period – he is scoring goals and working well for the team. There is a lot of confidence in himself at the moment, and the team as well is doing well to allow him to express himself.” – Patrick Vieira on Conor Gallagher

Gallagher – who is top for transfers in (215,000 and counting) ahead of Gameweek 12 – is besting Zaha across any number of underlying stats, although we do have to stress that the Chelsea loanee’s numbers are slightly skewed by some sky-high figures in Gameweeks 2-4:

Above: A comparison of Conor Gallagher and Wilfried Zaha in 2021/22

Gallagher is, in fact, only 27th among FPL midfielders for ‘expected goal involvement’ (xGI) over the last seven Gameweeks – but given the calibre of opposition faced, perhaps we can raise our expectations for the easier-on-paper tests ahead in 2021.

LAST STAND FOR JIMENEZ AND HWANG

Gallagher the most-bought FPL player of Gameweek 12 after latest haul 5

We can forgive Wolves for an off-day after their recent form: this was Raul Jimenez‘s (£7.5m) first blank in five starts.

Palace won the battle for possession and saw more than 60% of the ball with their relentless pressing, and not for the first time this season, Bruno Lage’s troops were outgunned in the middle of the park when confronted by a three-man central midfield (see also: Brentford (h) and the majority of the Aston Villa (a) game) – something to watch out for, perhaps, going forward.

“We want to play a style of football and we need to have more of the ball. If we manage the ball and not lose it, we will have more time with it. If you don’t have this you spend more time defending.

“Our team does not have the profile to spend too much time defending in front of our box, waiting for goals.” – Bruno Lage

Owners of Jimenez and Hwang Hee-chan (£5.8m) will no doubt be holding for a juicy-looking Gameweek 13 and 14 double-header but the matches around that are fairly dire and enough to see the mob from Molineux rank rock-bottom of our Season Ticker for fixture difficulty.

Given the fixture congestion that awaits in December and the number of attacking options available to Lage, sustained game-time may also soon be an issue for Hwang in particular.

Crystal Palace XI: Guaita, Ward, Guéhi, Andersen, Mitchell, McArthur (Schlupp 80), Kouyaté, Gallagher, Zaha, Edouard (Olise 80), Benteke (Ayew 89).

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI: Sá, Kilman, Coady, Saïss, Neves, Aït-Nouri, Trincao (Podence 68), Semedo (Traoré 68), Moutinho, Hee-Chan, Jiménez.

Had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted do to during the intl break but Spurs 0 sot in last two GWs is hardly inspiring. Any thoughts? Sarr > Gallagher possibly worth a shout? The Sanchez suspension is a very unnecessary headache! 1 FT and £1.9m ITB.

    Sanchez (!)

    Chilwell, James, TAA, Dier

    Salah, Mbeuno, Foden, Sarr

    Wood, Jimenez

    Subs: McGovern, Christensen, Vardy, Mendy

Sounds like a shout. I had him for that period where he should have hauled numerous times. Hard to resist a nailed (for the time being) Pool mid at 7.5.

Son and Wilson. Both capable of scoring even if the team isn't doing well. Great options for a stretch of "good" fixtures. Already have Son and looking to bring in Wilson+Foden myself as well.

Will go former on my wc. Also think Kane is not worth 2mil more just cause he’s on pens.
Gallagher is reminding me of ESR, I find them kinda lucky. Wilson is a proven striker and on pens.

    Which scores more in GW12?

    A) Foster (MUN) & ESR (liv)

    B) Reguilon (LEE)

What do we think is the reason that united's penalties have almost completely dried up?

Influence of Ronaldo on their playing style? Certainly seems to have slowed them down. Fast, quick footed people like Rashford, Greenwood and Bruno driving in to the box always felt like penalties waiting to happen.

    Or just pure coincedence?

More leniency with VAR calls, also Martial and Rashford being injured/not in the squad, thus they have less divers in the team.

You have to get into the box to be fouled to get a penalty.

Yeah I think this too haha. They are not playing good at the moment so there are not many chances/touches in the box, therefore less penalties.

Only having the ball between the halfway line and box, and when the ball goes in the box, it's in the air looking for Ronaldo's head

I understand folks want to jump on Spurs assets for their upcoming fixtures but in the 2 games that has been played under Conte, is there enough info to make a decision between Son v Kane?

Conte has been in the job for less than a week, granted Spurs still look bad. If you want to get ahead of the curve, you need to take these risks sometimes.

Thinking of using BB soon. I've had over 20 points on my bench the last two GW's. Current team is:

    1FT 1.8m ITB

    Ramsdale
    TAA Cancelo Chilwell James
    Salah Foden Raph
    Vardy Antonio Toney

    Foster Livra ESR Brownhill

I could do something like Vardy & Brownhill > Jesus & Jota (-4) and BB. Or should I just do Vardy > Kane. Any thoughts?

Don't like that idea. Would rather sell Kane.

Bored. How do I bring Jota in and when? Another problem is going to be getting CR7 when fixtures turn for MU, is it even doable? No money and only 1 ft.

That looks like a lovely strong squad but a horrible benching headache... I think you can afford to downgrade 1 or 2 players to cheap players who will stay on your bench

Yes, I couldn't decide between Saka and ESR on my WC when Arsenal looked good first time, so decided to get both of them with the idea to rotate them with other players. I plan to keep them both for two weeks, but then it's perhaps time for Saka to go.

    Ramsdale Foster
    TAA Cancelo Dias James Livramento
    Salah Foden ESR Mbeumo Brownhill
    Vardy Antonio Toney

1.9 ITB 2FT - does this seem like a good plan? I could do all 3 transfers for a hit but it feels unnecessary.

    GW 12: Vardy>Davis, Brownhill>Son
    GW 13: Mbeumo>Jota

I guess the question is.......does Jota outscore Livramento by at least 4 points?

It really sucks to go for an IB on the back of a red arrow... its just torture.

That was definitely a factor for me in bench boosting.........got +34 points from it!

Yeah it's important to get a green of any kind before an IB, otherwise you end up with too long to think about what needs to change. Got a slim one, despite Guaita and Gallagher on the bench, so i'll take it.

My team seems really bad on paper but I've been on consistent green arrows since GW 5. It helps that I was starting out with such a low rank (1.8M after GW4 ), but I still feel good about how much I've climbed (to 127k). What's been working for me is that at least one differential player is scoring each week. That seems to be making up for not having Chelsea Defenders. GW 11 it was Pukki. GW 10 it was Ronaldo, GW 9 it was Smith-Rowe (who everyone else benched). I've also not had any bench dilemmas because Livra and Duffy pretty much always have to start for me. I'm curious what people think about it, if its sustainable, or if I should tear it all up and make room for James.

    McCarthy
    TAA Livra R.Henry
    Salah KDB Gallagher ESR
    Ronaldo Jimenez Pukki

    Steele Duffy Brownhill Williams

Well... We have basically opposite team structures. Mine is above^. I believe that during festive period you are going to get into trouble and your luck may run out. I would downgrade KdB to improve defense. Jota + James should outscore KdB + Henry imo. Duffy may be dropped soon also.

    Time to WC?

    Sanchez, Bachman
    Cancelo, Chilwell, White, Marcal, Tsmikas
    Salah, Raphina, Havertz, Trossard, Gray
    Ronaldo, Antonio, Scarlett

1M ITB - 348k rank. TV has taken a battering over past few weeks..

Some good news for Son owners/prospective buyers-

"There's an expectation within the club that the starting XI and formation will change over the coming weeks.

    Potentially a shift from 3-4-3 to 3-4-1-2."

Fitting lo celso and ndombele in maybe? Hard to imagine a manager like Conte dropping moura though, wouldn't be too surprised if he ends up as the wing back

Hard to say at this point ..he is possibly trying to fit in one of Lo Celso/Ndombele but not both with Skipp and Holjberg behind..Probably dropping Lucas or maybe utilizing him at RWB

If a Doctor told me I only had two weeks to live I would want it to be during an international break. Would be the longest two weeks of my life.

    Current team - 2ft 0itb

    Ramsdale
    TAA - James - Cancelo - Livra
    Salah - Son - Raphinha
    Watkins - Antonio - Vardy

    (Foster - Rudiger - Brownhill - Luiz)

    a) Watkins > Wilson
    b) Watkins + Luiz > Gallagher + fodder
    c) other suggestions?

    Cheers

Has a player ever been more highly owned than Salah is now at 71.5%?

I think Mahrez was the previous record holder at just under 70 so don't think anyone has been higher.

Livramento withdraws from England U21s. Hopefully just an international break injury. Would like to play him against Norwich.

Hope so too, but I believe he is the first announced itb injury. Are U21 international matches how highly rated? I have a feeling that Livra would prefer to play with men, not kids, but have zero idea

    Ramsdale
    Trent Dias Chilwell Rudi
    Gallagher Raphinha Salah Son
    Vardy Toney

    Duffy Biss Dennis

Definitely doing Rudiger to Cancelo, would leave 0.5 itb, would leave Vardy till 14/15 and save for Ronaldo??

For those that have both Chilwell and James, it's mandatory to play them both against Leicester away, right?

Think I will have to go 5 defenders again: Chilwell, James, TAA, Cancelo and Livramento.
