Our Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on from Sunday’s Gameweek 16 fixtures, from injury news to stats analysis.

With the swift turnaround between Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadlines, the Scoreboard articles will take the place of the usual Scout Notes throughout December.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, BONUS

INJURIES AND BANS

Jonny Evans (£5.4m) went down holding his hamstring after just a few minutes of action on Sunday, and was quickly replaced, with Wilfred Ndidi (£4.8m) dropping in at centre-back.

“Not good. We think it’s his hamstring but we’ll get more on that tomorrow. It’s such a shame because he’s such a fantastic player.” – Brendan Rodgers on Jonny Evans

The setback is another worry for Leicester City’s injury and illness-hit squad, which is already missing key defenders Wesley Fofana (£4.3m), Jannik Vestergaard (£4.7m) and James Justin (£4.9m), plus Ayoze Perez (£5.7m), Ademola Lookman (£6.0m) and Kelechi Iheanacho (£6.9m) further forward.

Elsewhere, Maxwel Cornet (£6.1m) missed Gameweek 16 with a thigh problem, which Sean Dyche touched on in his post-match interview:

“We will wait and see over the next few days, he is settling well.”

Dyche also gave an update on Connor Roberts (£4.5m), who missed today’s squad due to illness:

“Unfortunately, Connor has got a really bad bug that eventually turned into an infection, so he’s had to go into hospital to make sure that’s clear. He’s feeling a bit better now, but he’s got to stay in over the weekend to make sure this bug clears.”

As for West Ham United, David Moyes has suggested Aaron Cresswell (£5.4m) – who has missed the last three games with an ongoing back problem – could return soon when quizzed on his availability ahead of Wednesday’s tie at Arsenal:

“I am hoping so, we are short and having to get through the best we can.”

At Everton, Rafa Benitez was without influential midfielder Allan (£4.5m) through injury, while Richarlison (£7.4m) was substituted off just before the hour mark, which he went onto explain after the match:

“Allan was working so hard at the end of the game a few days ago with a problem, he couldn’t be here.

Richarlison has a problem with his calf. We knew and were trying to protect him at half-time. He wanted to try to carry on. Without Dominic Calvert-Lewin we cannot take this risk (of Richarlison aggravating his problem). We put a player who was fresh on. He knew, we knew he wasn’t fully fit. It wasn’t helping with the arms (Richarlison looking annoyed). I said we could change him at half-time and nothing would happen. He wasn’t doing too much in the second half.”

On the suspension front, Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.4m) and Javier Manquillo (£4.0m) are now just one caution away from a ban, having picked up their fourth yellow cards of the season in Gameweek 16.

Aside from that, it was a fairly quiet afternoon, though Demarai Gray (£5.6m), Allan Saint-Maximin (£6.8m), Caglar Soyuncu (£4.9m) and Ben Mee (£4.9m) did all move onto three bookings.

GAMEWEEK 16 TAKEAWAYS

ADVANCED GALLAGHER SHINES IN NEW-LOOK PALACE MIDFIELD

Conor Gallagher (£6.1m) moved up to third in the midfielder standings on Sunday, with his brace of goals taking him to six for the season. In a thoroughly deserved win, the Chelsea loanee was easily the best player on the pitch, with Cheikhou Kouyate (£4.5m) and Will Hughes (£4.7m) offering him a platform to thrive in the final-third. As a result, he was deployed in a more advanced role, which was key to his performance.

Conor Gallagher’s average position by Gameweek

AWAY WOES CONTINUE AT NEWCASTLE

Following Sunday’s heavy defeat at the King Power Stadium, Newcastle United have now taken just three points from a possible 24 on their travels this season. They are still yet to win, while goals have been in short supply, too, with just five across their eight away games.

And that lack of attacking threat is impacting Callum Wilson (£7.5m), who looked isolated today, and as a result, managed just 10 touches in the final-third. It’s also worth noting the disparity in his home/away numbers, with his goal attempts (2.97/1.13), shots in the box (2.52/0.94) and big chances (0.89/0.38) per 90 minutes all taking a dip on the road.

TIELEMANS AND MADDISON DELIVER AS LEICESTER GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS

With Jamie Vardy (£10.7m) benched once again, Leicester turned to Youri Tielemans (£6.4m) and James Maddison (£6.7m) for inspiration on Sunday, with the pair stepping up and delivering monster 16-point FPL hauls.

For Maddison, the playmaker has now produced double-digit returns in three of his last four appearances, courtesy of three goals and four assists, though the fixtures up until the end of the year – Tottenham Hotspur (h), Everton (a), Manchester City (a) and Liverpool (h) – is probably enough to put off any potential buyers.

Today’s 4-0 win also signalled Leicester’s first clean sheet since Gameweek 1, with a much-improved defensive display restricting their opponents to just 0.67 expected goals (xG).

“When you’re in Europe you come up against teams who have a whole week to prepare. We got back on Thursday night, to sleep at 4am then back here again so it’s tough to bounce back on tired legs, especially with a Covid-hit squad. That’s what it’s about. The most pleasing thing after getting an assist, a goal and a penalty is the clean sheet. We’ve talked about that a lot. To look at the scoreboard at the end and see a nil next to the opponent is a good feeling.” – James Maddison

“It’s important to share (the goals) about. Jamie is an amazing player for us and he understands where he’s at. He’ll be fit and ready and fresh for Thursday.” – Brendan Rodgers on Jamie Vardy

ANTONIO WITHOUT A GOAL SINCE GAMEWEEK 9

After today’s blank, Michail Antonio (£7.9m) has now failed to find the back of the net in any of his last seven Premier League appearances. During that time, he has managed just one assist, though owners will find it hard to move him on, given West Ham United’s forthcoming schedule, which from Gameweek 17 is about as good as it gets, with matches against Norwich City (h), Southampton (h) and Watford (a) before the end of the year.

“I don’t think we can just rely on him to score all our goals. He scored so many at the start of the season. Yeah, it’s dried up a bit but every striker goes through that patch, he’s still massively key for our team and the way that we play, but the goals need to start coming from other players as well including myself.” – David Moyes on Michail Antonio

COVID CASES REPORTED AT MAN UTD AND VILLA

It is being reported that a small number of Covid-19 cases impacted both Manchester United and Aston Villa’s respective training sessions on Sunday. According to The Athletic, the United squad that travelled to Norwich City for yesterday’s win had all tested negative. However, there has since been some positive lateral flow tests in camp, with those involved sent home from training today and will now have PCR rests. At Villa, one first-team player has tested positive, with training set to go ahead as planned tomorrow. Man Utd are due to take on Brentford on Tuesday, while Villa travel to Norwich the day after in Gameweek 17.

STAT WATCH – GAMEWEEK 16

Conor Gallagher’s seven goal attempts in Gameweek 16 was more than any other player on show, with his 0.6 non-penalty xG total only beaten by Diogo Jota (£8.0m), Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.4m) and Salomon Rondon (£6.0m) this weekend.

The attacking midfielder also features here, with his three created chances carrying an expected assists (xA) value of 0.44.

West Ham duo Jarrod Bowen (£6.5m) and Nikola Vlasic (£5.7m) also appear from Sunday’s games, plus Gallagher’s team-mate Jordan Ayew (£5.8m).

He was really quite brilliant. If they play him ahead of two holding mids(instead of in a double pivot) consistently he will score a lot of goals.

Before today, I was considering Benteke, but his lack of game time forced me think otherwise.

Watkins have similarly good fixtures as Antonio (may be slightly worse). And better numbers than Antonio.

Or, if you want to upgrade ESR later, consider Pukki. On pens, better numbers than both Watkins and Antonio.

Field XI looks great. Bench of Toney, ESR, Amartey not so good for a wildcard. Amartey is not playing, ESR being rotated heavily. So, basically you are relying on only one bench player.

I've seen you mentioning ESR and rotation a few times. Is it not just because he was inured that he hasn't been playing? I thought he looked Arsenals best player pre-injury. And although he was on the bench last game he was probably rested cos he's on the back of said injury and they didn't need him given they were winning comfortably. ?

This. But Arsenal did win a great game and the turnaround is quick who likely barely made the bench, so might not start the next one either. Guessing game.

Dont like 1. 2 depends on a lot of factors and your analysis of ManU but wouldnt do it personally, selling a guaranteed 90 every week, might be a better use of the transfer. Love getting rid of Davis; not convinced by Watkins but yea.

Want to do something with the defence ideally.

TAA, cancelo, James, livra and Johnson
    Bilva, Gallagher, Bowen, Salah Jota
    Pukki, Dennis, Ronaldo

Do I get rid of Johnson for someone? If so, who? I'm tempted by Davies

Or get rid of James for a cheaper defender? This way I've some more money to upgrade elsewhere when the time is right.

Or do I do something completely different?

If you want to mess with defense, Johnson up to: Lamptey / Dalot ?

I am planning to buy Ronaldo by selling James and Vardy. May not do transfer in this GW but I can't think of which attractive defender to buy at around 4.4. I'd consider selling James if I had Rudiger, as i think the LIV/CHE/MCI back 3 is good enough now and if it meant a solid upgrade elsewhere. Dalot seems a good option. If it has to be 4.4m though, probably White or even down to a 3.9m Goode/Williams depending on the funds required.

Extremely frustrating week. Benteke's 1 point blocked Raphinha's 7 points from the bench. Dropped from 5k to 10k with a big fat red arrow. What to do?

    Ramsdale
    Trent James Lowton
    Salah Gray Bilva Jota
    Benteke King CR7
    Bench: Foster, Raphinha, Livramento, Cancelo

    1FT, 0.2ITB

    1. Save and just play Lowton & Gray/raphinha(away vs Chelsea/City respectively which is not ideal)
    2. Raphinha--> Bowen and play Bowen away vs Arsenal
    3. Livramento--> Dalot and play 4 3 3

    Thoughts much appreciated!

6 points bench loss is honestly not that bad. Much much worse things happen, dw.

I wouldnt seel Livramento or Raphinha, guaranteed week-in/week-out starters not to be pushed out imo. If anyone, sell Benteke, not sure what he is doing in this team. Or save and someone + Benteke trickery.

I'm at 60k rightnow so don't know if my thoughts are any good to you, but I myself transfered out Livra for Reguilon and then him to Dalot after game postponement.

All these options seem not great. Best one is the 3rd though, but if the Man united game gets postponed then it automaticly becomes the worst option.

Thanks for the advices boys! Being too punty definitely hurted me by getting in Benteke, but now I am kind of stuck with him unless I take a hit. watched the west ham game and Bowen is quite threatening but Arsenal's defence has been quite resolute on home ground.

GTG here assuming no match postponements?
Only one to really worry about if so is Reguilon, but Livra as cover should hopefully suffice.

    Sanchez (Steele)
    TAA James Reguilon (Livra) (Cancelo)
    Salah Bilva Bowen Mount ESR
    Ronaldo Dennis (Pukki)

Any hits required? Bench Order ok?

Yea youre good. Would consider Pukki instead of ESR depending on your assessment on whether ESR starts.

I'd also consider reguilon out bc wouldnt want him next two + really not sure what his injury is. That said, only if you have a transfer to burn.

Another game week for the dead zone; I hope it is a little assistance for those who don’t get the chance to watch all the matches, when the top 3 and Man U all came through with penalties. One again, excuse spelling, grammar and mistakes. I am out all day so excuse the late replies.
Brentford 2 Watford 1: Watford went in at half time 1 up. How, I am not too sure. King did hit the post but whatever the stats might say, Dennis was the man. Watford defense was awful and can’t defend a cross. Mbeumo was good up top, running the channels but Brentford defenders were the physical presence. Rico Henry is a star in the making. Both keepers don’t seem to have a clue though; Brentford given a gift in the 95th minute with stupid penalty. The work ethic was there for both sides. MOTM: Henry/Dennis

Man City 1 Wolves 0: Not often do I get bored with Citeh but the first 45 were that. Ait Nouri kept an out of sorts Sterling in check and a lot of Citeh’s more probing passes were not up to scratch. Zinchenko too slow movement and Wolves back 5 very disciplined. Neves took a bad knock to the head. Best passer Ederson. Daft sending off for Jimenez; Jeez! Wolves are boring time wasters at their frustrating best! Gundo, overplayed and ponderous taken off after 55 minutes and Citeh being patient but ineffective against 10 men eventually got a gift penalty assisted by Bilva. Grealish too predictable and Sterling slightly less so were uninspiring. Foden made a difference. The result could have been 6 0 or 0 0. MOTM: Ait Nouri

Liverpool 1 villa 0: Villa battled hard in the 1st half; a tactic to keep Pool at bay and wait for a rare opportunity. A frustrating day for Pool until the predictable Salah goal from a pen created by Mings expected faux pas; then Villa got into the game; the usual easy miss for substitute Jota; Martinez at his best. Villa resolute but eventually succumbed; Pool generally off the mark with their final ball. Not a shot on target for Villa; MOTM: Martinez.

Chelsea 3 Leeds 2: Don’t expect clean sheets from Chelsea with their midfield are in such disarray, outplayed by Leeds return of intensity. Rudiger runs on emotion but worth his weight in gold. Havertz and Werner a waste of space; man marking Leeds did sorted the Chelsea wing backs and could class themselves as unlucky not to get a draw. Rjames tackle on James should have seen red; Chelsea defense struggled generally and especially when Gelhardt when he came on late and made an instant impact; a soft penalty by Klich on Rudiger decided the match; credit for Chelsea being streetwise. MOTM: Rudiger

Arsenal 3 Soton 0: A slow start by Arsenal required the save machine Ramsdale to stand and be counted; I am not sure about Gunners ability to play out from the back and it showed early on. When they got into the game though they walked it in the end and it could have been 6; in addition Soton seemed to have lost all 3 of their strikers to injury; impressive performances from Gabriel, Lacazette, Odegard and Ramsdale. Nothing to write home about for Soton: MOTM Ramsdale.

Norwich 0 Man United 1: Is Ollie still in charge? It seemed like it with an inept United display. Yet another MOTM award for a keeper, DDG earning the points for an inferior United side; any forward passes United made were not finding their mark. Norwich clearly won the midfield battle and United insist on playing Rashford; I don’t know why. Ronaldo, if he wants to play needs a partner capable of making spaces; Dalot was ok and should hold his place. Bruno another pitiful performance; did he make a successful pass? MacFred were not too bad on the day; Norwich missed chances or DDG was there to save them. MOTM: De Gea.

Burnley 0 Hammers 0: TBH I never watched much of the game. I saw a sure penalty not given. Nothing much to say other than Pope making a good save to Keep Burnley in the game. MOTM:??

Leicester 4 Newcastle 0: Vardy on the bench hurt those who hung onto him; a dubious VAR penalty decisions could have left Newcastle level; at half time rather than the Foxes. Newcastle the better side INO for the first 45; you never know what you will get from Maddi and Barnes. They got something right in the 58th minute. You can’t do it all on your own ASM (But you are a pleasure to watch!) The game vanished from Newcastle in the second half; a long road ahead Newcastle. MOTM: Maddison.

Palace 3 Everton 1: Woeful Everton did not see the ball for the first half hour. No dynamism. They started to jack it up in the last 15 minutes with Godfrey playing well as a right footed left back; Gallagher industrious, making a difference with a goal in the 40th minute. Gallagher could have another 2 before the hour mark. Hughes made a difference too; I am at a loss why Everton only start to play in the last 20 minutes. Benteke should have got a red. If you thought you could go back to Everton assets after Arsenal, forget about it. MOTM: Gallagher
