FPL Daily: Injury updates on Wilson and Trippier

We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points of the day in FPL Daily, a series that services weekdays where there is no press conference round-up or Premier League match.

WILSON AND TRIPPIER EDGING CLOSER TO RETURN

Eddie Howe has provided an update on Callum Wilson (£7.2m), Kieran Trippier (£5.0m), Isaac Hayden (£4.5m) and Jamal Lewis (£4.2m) as they all continue to recover from injury.

Speaking at Newcastle United’s warm-weather training camp in Dubai, the head coach said:

“I’d say they’re on schedule from where they were given their respective injuries, but I wouldn’t say necessarily ahead of schedule. They’re both serious injuries, both enough to obviously be operated on and go through a very intense rehab period.

Callum’s (Wilson) injury, you have to be very careful with; that we don’t push him back too quickly and he ends up injuring himself again, because the achilles/calf is a very delicate area of the body and you need to make sure it’s robust enough to withstand heavy load.

Kieran’s (Trippier) is slightly different. (It’s) a bone injury and I think, touch wood, if he can come through the early stages of coming out in his boots and then progressing quite quickly, he’s one we could see back in action hopefully pretty soon.

But with both injuries, I do think we have to be very cautious. We don’t want to re-injure the player.

Jamal’s (Lewis) had a long-standing groin problem and I was really pleased to see him operated on. We hope that that’s fixed his long-standing problem and he will, again, be okay in a relatively short period of time to return to training with us.

And Isaac’s (Hayden) been working after having a serious knee injury – again, one he’d played with for a long period of time. Touch wood, he’ll be back training soon.”

EVANS JOINS NORTHERN IRELAND SQUAD

Jonny Evans (£5.4m) has joined up with the Northern Ireland squad for Friday’s friendly against Luxembourg.

The Leicester City centre-back was not named in Ian Baraclough’s original 25-man squad for the game, but played 25 minutes of his club’s 2-1 Premier League win over Brentford in Gameweek 30 as he continues to recover from his hamstring injury.

“It’s only for the Luxembourg game. To have him in the squad is great. Jonny (Evans) is a leader for us. Brendan (Rodgers) had made me aware a couple of days before that he was back in training probably earlier than what they had expected and would we like to use him in the camp.” – Ian Baraclough

KEITA PULLS OUT OF INTERNATIONAL DUTY

Naby Keita (£5.0m) has pulled out of the Guinea squad for their upcoming friendlies due to a knee injury.

The midfielder featured in Liverpool’s 1-0 FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday but was substituted in the second half.

Keita’s withdrawal comes days after manager Jurgen Klopp suggested Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5m) will be out for several weeks with a hamstring problem.

Any early thoughts here would be much appreciated, friends:

    Lloris (Foster)
    TAA, Robbo, Cancelo, Rüdiger (Cash)
    Salah, Coutinho, Raphinha, Saka, Kulusevski,
    Watkins (Jiménez, Broja)

2 free transfers £1,8 in the bank, one FH and WC available.

    A. Jimi to Weghorst, roll other ft
    B. Coutinho to Ramsey, Broja to 4.5, Jimi to Kane (- 4)
    C. Something else?

when are you planning to use WC and FH, transfer will be dependent on that strategy.

Jimenez to Weghorst, Coutinho to Gordon, Watkins to Kane for -4pts.

Slowly slowly loving the idea of FHing this week instead of WC and using WC in next week. Can do few interesting stuff by using this strategy...

      Like what, for gw31?

Get Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea players for 1 week.

        Kane-Salah to Ronaldo-Bruno for 32 and 33.

Saving around 1m on GK by getting other combo instead of Lloris

Having 2FTs in GW34 which makes getting Salah/Kane for free easier, will have to be for hit if I do FH33.

Not the best stuff but I can try Weghorst and Pope this week.

Gives one extra week to get info on Trent and UCL results.

If you avoid City cameos it could be a winner.

Would you save enough to get Mateta on WC ahead of Gelhart ? 😉

(Though my memory of that move is that it works best if you sell Kane)

            Okaeri! 😉

Mateta for Gelhardt will be easy, not that I'm willing to do that move 😀 I'm more interested in Cucho tbh, he has decent fixtures when required.

From Palace, I'm looking at Zaha and Olise. Olise is finally getting regular gametime and only 5.4, not bad for a 5th mid.

              Curious comment

It would seem to indicate you are restricting yourself to two Palace 🙂

Olise is an amazing talent but the one I suspect that won't double. It's not as if Palace are short of attacking options.

Which players/teams are best to target with the idea of FH 33 and 36?

        This!

So many similar questions, i thought the point of the game was to make your own choices. Perhaps it's simply to get most points by following others advice?

I agree. This is a discussion forum and we should chat here about pros and cons of different strategies and players and then decide what to do. But sometimes it's good to ask if someone going just under radar has been forgotten.

Benrahma and his next 3 fixtures may merit some consideration?

Spurs, Wolves, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool. I think these teams have got some decent fixtures if you look till season end. For 3-4 games window, some other teams like Leicester and Palace can be considered.

What would you do with this lot.
I still have BB and FH. I'm considering BB 36 and FH 37

    Ramsdale
    TAA Robbo Cancelo Doherty
    Salah Saka Martinelli Kulu
    Kane Broja

    Foster Iheanacho Barnes Amartey
    1ft £0.5m

Strategy is fine. Will have to wait for update on Ramsdale/Trent/Martinelli before making any moves.

    Hello

Sorry if I have missed an announcement but have the xGC calculations been changed in the members area? I am looking at my figures for last week and those for this week and some have gone up significantly more than they should have and some have gone down, which makes no sense, without either (1) a mistake from me or (2) a back-end recalculation from FFS.

    Thanks

    Tom

      Hey Tom!

Yeah Opta have had a bit of an overhaul of their xG data in the last few days. We'll be putting out an article over the break to explain a bit more but it's all described here:

Thank you for the quick reply and the explanation. I was worried I was going mad, or worse, that I'd got my figures wrong.

I read the article last week, thought it was great but hadn't realised it would be reflected here so quickly. Very pleased that it is.

        Thanks

        Tom

I have Gordon and Richarlison and thinking of shipping them both for single game week players.

Got them when wildcarding two weeks ago but i can not see them scoring away from home - useless!

    Ramsdale* / Dubravka
    TAA*, Cancelo, White, Cash*, Kilman*
    Salah, Son, Saka, Kulu, Raphinha*
    Kane, Broja*, Gelhardt
    2.4 mitb, 1ft, 1FH left

General consensus seems to be here FH 36 instead of FH 33. I am just wondering which has bigger upside for my team for example. (Ramsdale and TAA injury situation we don't know. Cash vs Wolves is ok, but he has sour fixtures after that before they turn good again but is Villa on the beach then? Raphinha should be good for next two, but blanks and has to go after that. Kilman isn't nailed to start but is selling him for Otto waste of a transfer?)

There is less time to prepare for FH33 than for FH36. And could the upside actually be bigger with FH38? What drafts have you done for FH33 and FH36 teams?

Fwiw i think you'll get a higher net difference above average/ safety score with FH33, than FH36 but we'll see.

And combine that with a strong score in gw36 which in theory could be 100 pointer without a chip needed. Of course many have BB to play too for extra points all being well.

If TAA is out for Watford game would you sell considering next 2 games are City & United?

Will be using WC in GW34 and dont have BB so I can afford to have a cheap bench and pay a little extra for TAA in 34 or just get Robbo if I need the cash.

I personally plan to keep him. For me it saves one transfer and starting from 34 I believe that TAA, Robbo + Salah is optimal Liv combo. Money is unfortunately always tight.

The risk ratio is high with Salah as he can explode anytime, you may get away with it but the chance of getting rekt is probably significant

Thoughts on this WC team? (0.7itb)

    Ramsdale
    TAA - Robbo - Cancelo - James
    Salah - Havertz - Saka - Kulu - Barnes
    Kane

    (Foster - White - Cucho - Gelhardt)

Could also do Robbo & Gelhardt to Laporte & Weghorst, but that would give me a really bad benching headache 🙂

Preliminary thoughts on what to do here?

    Sa - Foster
    TAA - Tierney - T. Silva - Thomas - Kilman
    Salah - Son - Saka - Coutinho - Barnes
    Kane - Broja - Hwang

I've decided I need to play my BB before my WC and that means building a team to BB in gw33 (12 dgw players + Kane, Son and Salah)
I'll then have FH, WC and FH to play before the end of the season - The only issue I have is getting MCI players for 34 and 35

    Should be fun ride!
