Liverpool v Man Utd team news: Jones makes rare start, Telles and Sancho benched

Double Gameweek 33 continues this evening and there is plenty of interest in both sides from a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) perspective.

Liverpool v Manchester United gets underway at Anfield at 20:00 GMT.

For the visitors, Ralf Rangnick opts for a back-five system with Phil Jones handed a surprise start alongside Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.

Diogo Dalot is preferred to Alex Telles on the left, while further forward, Anthony Elanga and Marcus Rashford line up through the middle.

That means Jadon Sancho has to settle for a place on the bench.

Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature due to the tragic death of his baby boy.

Jurgen Klopp makes two changes from Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City, with Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson replacing Ibrahima Konate and Naby Keita, both of whom are substitutes.

Roberto Firmino, meanwhile, misses out with a minor foot injury.

      Yeah, pleased with that decision. Decided to save the transfer this week instead of bringing in a United player. Decided I'd rather use those 2 FTs on Chelsea DGWers instead. Gambled on them beating Palace.

      The only side that can play there with any control is Man City. Chelsea and Brighton also did so for large parts of those matches but that was on a good day for them.

      Hard to know where to start with that United team. On paper some decent players. Need someone who can take the youth forward and chuck out DeGea, Maguire, Varane, Shaw . . . the list keeps going. It's a five - ten year rebuild.

      Sounds like he's trying to get him on the pitch as much as possible. Sounds good to me.

      Even at RCB, James gets forward for crosses and shots.

      I didn't captain him v United away.
      I did captain him v Leicester when he missed his first pen in 4 years.
      Took Son out to bring him in for Watford. Cost me 9 points.
      Took him out for Bruno the last two weeks.

      So many points blown despite owning him almost every gameweek.

    Jeepers, based on the eye test on that Man U performance, I would take Weghorst in a single gameweek over are a Man U player even if they had a tripple gamweek !

    Very reactionary takes from people on here about Salah a week or so ago. Wildcard teams without him, not worth his price anymore, terrible form, etc.

    Because he sets his standards so high, it makes many on here think he can just score every single game.

      Attacking Spurs triple up was the talk of town a week or so ago
      Now plenty of WC teams with zero Spurs

        I think the degree of the swings this week making people feel quite smug or unlucky, both in a reactionary way - the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. For me, I went Son/Kane, Bruno (C) and no Salah on my FH, and it's more or less cost me the season. Knew the risks, didin't pay off and totally see and accept both signs of the coin.

          Thought to your point, I don't think my views on anyone has really changed, perhaps outside of moving on from Son/Kane double up as there's just far better options in KDB, building up the defense, Chelsea mids, etc.

        The problem is its happening literally again isn't it?

        People were heavy on Kane/Son/Kulu (for good reason) one bad game & suddenly they're barely considering them.

        Look at their upcoming fixture and personally think it's madness to not have one or two still. People may run into issue in GW37/38 especially when Spurs play BUR & NOR and suddenly they have 0 or 1 Spurs player.

          I think with Spurs its different. If they dont have effective wing backs the system falls apart and Kulu at RWB is a real possibility. That severely dent Kulu's appeal and only one of Kane or Son is probably enough

      Very reactionary. Was watching a couple of pods lately & I can't remember who (maybe Luke, or someone else) was like... don't sell Salah - he still has superb stats, the signs are there, a haul is coming. Bingo.

      Saldy I FH him out on favour of doubles :mrgreen: but fortunately Bruno G & Ronaldo still mean I'm on a sizeable green regardless, with Salah sitting pretty ready for next GW.

      I agree. Even the best players can blank in any given GW. Long-term data is far more reliable than short-term form.

      This is why I don't put too much weight on DGWs involving poor teams and players. If even Salah can blank now and again, the chances are quite high that a player like Weghorst blanks in both. I think his owners have been on the right side of variance this week.

      But that's FPL. All you can do is tilt the odds in your favour as much and possible, and then cross your fingers.

        Salah is just the best player in FPL man. People have short memories. If he goes on a slightly iffy run of form for his standards, you better keep him because he will score a brace or more (like today).

        I might sell him in 35 though if he doesn't start away to Newcastle 😀

        And probably won't own him on FH37 (playing catch up at 49k rank)
