Sky Fantasy Football has relaunched for 2022/23, so you can head over there now and begin picking your team – or teams plural, as Sky allows you to manage a second XI (and a third from January).

A whopping £50,000 is on offer to the game’s winner next season, with cash prizes of £5,000 and £1,000 dished out to those managers finishing in the other two podium places.

The fourth and fifth-placed managers are awarded games consoles, as are the highest-scoring Fantasy bosses of the month.

HOW DO I PLAY?

Sky Fantasy Football is live: What's new for 2022/23

Just like in Fantasy Premier League, managers select a team of players that will either earn attacking, defensive or bonus points in an attempt to score more than friends, colleagues and/or the rest of the world.

However, this is not a squad-based game: you simply choose a starting XI and do not have a bench.

We have already produced a beginner’s guide which delves deeper into the rules and scoring system – this can be accessed here.

JOIN OUR FFSCOUT MINI-LEAGUE

There are a number of different ways to compete against others in the Sky Sports game, one of which is a Free League.

We have already set up our annual, free-to-enter Fantasy Football Scout mini-league, which you can enter by heading to the ‘Leagues’ tab and clicking ‘Join+’.

The full details are below:

League Name: FFScout
League Pin:
9236658

HOW FFSCOUT MEMBERSHIP CAN HELP

Our Premium Members Area Opta stats can help you identify players who will potentially benefit from the Sky Sports bonus on offer for saves, tackles, passes and shots on target.

Annual subscriptions are available for a discounted £2.49 a month, billed annually.

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2022/23

ONE OVERHAUL

Where FPL bosses effectively have three Wildcards to play due to the advent of unlimited transfers during the winter World Cup, Sky managers are going to have to think more longer-term.

Previously those playing Sky were allowed two Overhauls a season but this has been whittled down to one.

The Overhaul period will begin when the Premier League breaks for the World Cup and it will run until the domestic action resumes on December 26.

50 TRANSFERS

To help with that long-term planning, Sky have upped the free transfer allocation from 40 to 50 this season.

As was the case beforehand, a maximum of five can be used in one Gameweek (which run from Friday to Thursday as usual).

POSITIONAL RECLASSIFICATIONS

Previously Sky was very top-heavy in terms of player choice, with the majority of attacking options – such as Mohamed Salah – classified as forwards.

There’s been a revamp of the player classifications this time around, however, bringing it more in line with FPL.

Now only bona fide strikers like Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Erling Haaland are forwards, with Salah, Son Heung-min et al reclassified as midfielders.

NO MAN OF THE MATCH?

Conspicuous by its absence in the scoring section of the rules page was the ‘Man of the Match’ bonus, which has presumedly been scrapped for the new season.

How has Az not got any 8m mids?

There's value all over the pitch mate. This community (myself included) tend to all end up with very similar teams and shoot down other ideas.

Can't find room for Chilwell or James, this is the current draft.

    Raya
    TAA Cancelo Perisic Tomi
    Salah Diaz Foden Neto
    Haaland Jesus

    Balcombe Andreas Neco Taylor

    Thoughts?

Not sure I really get the foden love, he just doesn't get the returns.

I'd probably downgrade a little and get at least 1 Chelsea fullback. Don't really fancy perisic either. If it was my team maybe foden to coutinho, perisic to James and a 5m keeper. There is so much value in the 5m keepers.

I’m think Chilwell/ James can outscore Foden.

Question is can a 7.5 or cheaper mid outscore Perisic?

Points per match for 8.5m> mids are like this, tough to pick which ones to go for.

    Bowen 5.7
    Kulu 5.5
    Mount 5.3
    Maddison 5.2
    Diaz 4.9
    Foden 4.9
    Mahrez 4.8
    Saka 4.7

Don't really like any of them, Kulu/Diaz/foden/mahrez are all massively overshadowed by team mates, I'd rather have Jesus than Saka, and arguably martinelli is far better value. Don't rate mount. Bowen and maddison possibly but I'd probably want to see a bit of form first.

One piece of advice from financial trading that's relevant here; using historical data to predict what will happen never ends well.

Especially when you're looking at a sample size of 1 year.

      1. DelPiero10

Quite a few young players in there though. I would expect some sort of improvement from those as they are still in development.

No one go for Bowen? Apart from City 1st game, WHU fixtures not so bad and he got more than 200 points last season.

      Maybe I'll get him.

really interested to see if we end up signing a quality attacker (like we seem to be trying to do).

In my draft for now. Had Kulu but felt more secure with Bowen, I feel if you can't get Son or Kane then it's probably best off just waiting until it's viable, Kulu feels like a transfer in waiting. Bowen was basically fixture-proof last season and won't be rotated so I feel much happier with him

I agree with this. I like Bowen because I think he is a quality player, who won’t be rotated anywhere near as much as others. He’s in my team for sure

playing around a little...really want to be aggressive early this year.

      Raya
      TAA, Robertson, Cancelo, Digne
      Diaz, Grealish, Coutinho
      Haaland, Vardy, Jesus

      (4.0, Tomiyasu, Andreas, Elneny)
      leaves 0.5 itb.

Obviously no-Salah is the big risk. Grealish/Coutinho could become a 6.0/8.0 combo by the time the game rolls around.

        Overall solid and different.

Personally would definitely have Salah and not begin with Vardy with those tricky fixtures.

          yeah - Vardy > 4.5, Robertson > 5.0
          Grealish > Salah

I do like the double defense.

I don't think the fixtures are bad. Brentford may struggle without Eriksen, he loves a goal against Arsenal, Southampton's high-line is prone to someone like Vardy. After Chelsea they face ManUtd and Brighton (a team they tend to do well against given Brighton's desire to have a go at any team they face).

It's different and I like it. I do think 6m+8m might be better than 2x7m, I think Grealish will do well this season but he's a risk early on with a light bench (part of the reason why I moved away from him myself). I don't rate Coutinho much, at his last few clubs he's tended to start off really well and then go off the boil realpy quickly and he looks like he's done that at Villa too. That being said if Raphinha does somehow end up at Chelsea after all this I'd like him so maybe him and one of the other two. Love the Vardy pick, he tends to start the season well and I think the fixtures will suit him and Leicester for the most part.

There is just too much value in those players. I think TAA, Robbo, Cancelo and Chilwell will all hit north of 170 points. Not many mids will probably reach that mark. Just need to be patient with them.

This. Add James and you have the 5 best value players in the game who could all get close to 200. I get that the 4.5m defenders are good value but don’t carry nearly the threat of double digits that the wing backs do

If Grealish was as good as his agent makes him out to be then he’d be FFL gold. He’s a liability though and far better players available at both City and across the league.
Bowen and Maddison could be a shout but not early on. I’d swap Grealish and Maddison to Neto/Yates/Colback/Perreira and upgrade Bowen to Salah

I'm leaning to Mendy atm with assumed international break wildcard to reconsider. That said I've also has drafts with no Mendy and doubling Chillwell and James so I really don't know lol.

I have very few definites still atm though - probably TAA, Salah, Haaland and of course the mighty Neco Williams only ones are consistent through my drafts.

I expect that for the two playoff rounds (August 12th & 25th) we will play a development squad/second string team but in theory should qualify without too much issue…

              Then once the group kicks in from September through to November Moyes will definitely give it a good go. From an FPL perspective the league games that come straight after a midweek European match are mainly favourable fixtures;
              Newcastle (H)
              Everton (A)
              Fulham (H)
              Saints (A)
              Man United (A)
              Palace (H)

It’s also worth noting that Moyes was quoted last season as saying Bowen’s fitness levels & attitude could see him play 3 or 4 times a week if needed. He’d be a safe bet for starts whereas Antonio or fullback options in Coufal/Cress will get heavily rotated.

              1. DelPiero10
                  3 years, 5 months ago

Fantastic, thanks for your input. That's the exact run I'm looking at right now, it is juicy. Looking to see how many good options WHU will present for FPL managers around gwk6/7 on. Bowen seems a lock and I'd like one more.

I’d look for a pattern on which right back is preferred for the league & Europe respectively. I’m expecting Johnson to play in Europe & Coufal to have the lions share of Prem starts. If that’s the case, Coufals the much more attacking of the two and FPL noteworthy. He was injured for a fair bit of last season so take the minutes & returns with a pinch of salt when analysing those, I’d expect a return to figures around the 2021 season where he notched 9 assists.
If it’s an attacker you’re after then I’d probably go to Fornals after Bowen, he has those little purple patches & I’d expect another 120-140 points from him this season.

Class, thanks for your help. Could have room for a defender around then and it looks a good opportunity to take a bit of a punt. Coufal could be the one if the rotation works that way, would prefer Cresswell though.

i like the changes in Sky, but didn't realize they got rid of the MOTM bonus points, i'm sad to see it go, the award was often a bit random but i felt it added an extra layer of strategy to the game by picking players who you think is likely to get it, KDB for example gets loads, so its loss is going to impact his appeal a little bit

That was my thought as well about the MOTM. I did think the single overhaul might be an issue, but the extra 10 transfers is basically going to cover it anyway, just spreads it out over 2 GWs.
I quite enjoy running the Sky game alongside FPL; it does call for a very different approach at times

imo Sky is better than FPL in many aspects, the bonus points for example is much better where any player can get them if they hit a certain scoring threshold, its just not as friendly to casuals as you need to be constantly engaged with the game making captain changes and so on and if you miss a week or 2 because of life then you are left in the dust

Conte has made 5 signings which all strengthen the depth of the squad really well with Europe in mind. Will Lenglet be a starter do you think?

Shrewd business by Spurs to be fair, Richarlison an upgrade on Bergwin and Lenglet a likely upgrade on Tanganga.

You’d think that Diers spot is up for grabs in the long run, I personally think he’s majorly overrated but maybe Conte disagrees.

Might be bandwagoning but I’m finding it harder to justify leaving out Chilwell and Jesus. I’m very likely to keep Robertson – with Trent ownership so high I feel the double up is the only way to back Liverpool defence.

                Here’s my latest draft:

                Raya // Balcombe
                Trent Robertson Cancelo Chilwell Tomiyasu
Salah Saka Neto // Murphy Andreas
                Haaland Jesus // S. Greenwood

                A: no changes
                B: Murphy + Jesus ➡️ Coutinho + Undav
                C: Chilwell + Murphy + Jesus ➡️ Jonny + Coutinho + Toney
                D: Chilwell + Saka + Murphy ➡️ Jonny + Foden + Martinelli
                E: something else?

Chance to have 4 or 5 Forest players with Williams and Andreas potentially added to the triple up. Better get in quick and then make no transfers all season to lock them in place.

Maybe , but in a team likely to keep precious few CS ? Does the extra 2 M saved against say a 6M def such as James or Chilwell equate to a differential elsewhere ?
I'm going 5-3-2 with the heaviest hitting Def I can buy and I think that's where the true value is ( Chelsea CB transfers in permitting)

Depends where 2m goes i.e. Trossard could become a Bowen(8.5) giving you an easy move to exploding 8m mids as I'm not sure which 8.0m mids will fire early doors but I expect some to and price hike from hell as people jump in.

I'm not saying Neco is going to be a premium but I do expect him to be nailed play likely as wingback in a 3CB counter-attacking side. The style made Spence a star last season and earned him his Spurs move and Neco I see as likely slotting into the space he's vacated.

Obviously "best whatever in the championship" comes with a pinch of salt with promoted sides but at 4.0m he's a must for me. Some existing familiarity with Johnson should help him settle too hopefully.

I keep watching YouTube connect and forum messages about Mendy. None of the analysis is about Mendy as in individual fpl asset but rather Chelsea last season as a team. I remain convinced that Mendy is hugely overvalued my scout followers. I think £5.0m is a fair price and he is a good option at that price but no one has yet to make a good case for why he is underpriced other than “but Chelsea”. He barely ever gets Bonus points or save points so is pretty capped at 6-7

3 m price difference may be a problem with Sterling- although agree he is good option. But to get him as well as TAA Cancelo Salah Haaland just too expensive

                    Rate my early draft please?

                    Ramsdale 4.0
                    TAA, Laporte, James, Doherty, Jonny
                    Salah, Diaz, Saka, Martinelli, Neto
                    Haaland, 5.5, 4.5

Not sure who the best 5.5 bench forward will be, but surely someone will show up in preseason. Broja could be good again depending on where he ends up.

1 up front messes up the bench. 5.5 a bit of an expense to have.
I wanted to play 1 up front but couldn't stand the sight of my bench so have gone 2 up front.

Yeh I totally agree with the bench not looking good and I’m still not sure if I’ll go with just 1 up front, but I also don’t really prefer my starting 11 with 1 forward.

Yeah Martinelli just, though I wonder if that spot could be rotated further with Nketiah starting up top and Jesus on the right sometimes?

who you calling first crack ???

mahrez is a no go for me as not nailed enough and other decent option for his price range.nice enough team i would say bit different but i like it.

i would however have a plan for getting haaland in case he hauls early on. gl

I can see Werner all over again?
Being a Forest fan had to give them a go.

Different but I really like it. I would maybe ship out Jesus and get Robbo for Tomi or Mings. Gives you another 8M mid instead of Cout who I'm not convinced about

Here is my first draft. 5-3-2

                    GK: Ederson (Forster)
                    DEF: Cancelo-TAA-Robbo-
                    Chilwell-Cash
                    MID: Salah-Rashford-Willock (DewburyHall)-(Andreas)
                    ATT: Haaland-Jesus-(Greenwood)

Went with Ederson to enable triple City and Liverpool from the start with both double up in defence.
Will wait and see Rashford in pre season but feel like for 6.5m he will be a bargain if he can get back to form.
Apart from Ederson has anyone got suggestions of who I should downgrade to improve the 3rd midfield position? Currently Willock and DewsburyHall rotating.

                    Thanks
