With Fantasy Premier League (FPL) live for 2022/23, we’ll be welcoming back our stellar team of Pro Pundits and Hall of Famers for the new campaign.

We’ll be hearing from a different writer every day in the aftermath of the FPL relaunch, to get their thoughts on the pricing and to see their initial picks.

Our writers will be providing regular articles and team reveals throughout the new season, with only Premium Members able to access every single one.

Next up is FPL Milanista, who has posted overall ranks of 473rd and 1,547th in the last two FPL seasons.

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is back for a new season and so is our tinkering. The Premier League champions have signed one of the most prolific talents in world football, Erling Haaland (£11.5m), while runners-up Liverpool have also strengthened their squad and, in my opinion, still offer the best FPL options for our teams. Without further ado, let’s jump into my initial thoughts and first draft for the 2022/23 season.

Only thing I think I'm certain of so far is I need two 8m midfielders and a 5m keeper...

Saka is nailed and has good fixtures. Mendy also has good fixtures, if Che recruit good centre backs I’m going with him. Coutinho has good opening fixtures to and is nailed. Those would be my picks, spend the extra 1m on your defense.

Why is coutinho nailed? He wasn't last season... 5 subs rule as well probably means he will rotate more than you think.

What makes you think he wasn’t nailed ? He didn’t play his first game until the end of Jan, and started every game after that.

16 out of 19 games which is pretty good and didn't realise he was only 7m. Villa do have a lot of attacking players though although him being subbed off last season might be because he hadn't played consistently for a while.

Spurs look like having some of the best opening fixtures, GW2 aside...

If Son takes up where he left off last season, surely he's up there as prime captain...

Would be very interesting to see his PPM under Conte, if anyone has the data/calc

Given that Kane did little to nothing in the first few months of last season I think he might be under priced in comparison.

      Under Conte:
      26 starts. 19G 8A.
      203pts. Pts/start 7.8
      Mins/pt 10.9

      I'm planning to cap him GWs 1, 3, 4, 6.

Going with Son & Håland, no Salah. Think those 2 are enough for captaincy & there's plenty of other good value Pool players

Haaland will likely do very well...

But, still needs to adapt to team, style, and league...

Away to wham and new in first 3 don't scream goal fests...

As mids, Salah / Son will likely outscore Kane/Haaland forwards even if Kane/Haaland score a few more goals

That's better than Salahs PPM, though you could make the argument that Salahs form 1st half of season was way better

Could also make the argument that it took Conte/Son a few games to adapt to each other and the system etc, which could further push up his PPG if this warming in period was excluded

Wolves were also good for a while last year, even beat Spurs 0-2, Forest from what i seen from them in the cup last year will be hard to beat for everybody at the city ground, of course Spurs can still win those games its just that they are trickier than they look at first glance imo

No one to monitor re Richarlison but be bizarre for Kul to lose his place given his performances last season. There'll be rotation amongst all four of them given the European games have been squeezed in before the World Cup. Same for all the top teams, nothing we can do about it.

One thing to note is that Richarlison was tested at RW alongside Son and Kane first in their open training session, and then in the second half of their match against the SK League. Kulusevski wasn't fit to take part but Conte definitely seems to want Richarlison to play there. He did try him at CF in training sessions when not in the same group as Kane and Son and he played there too in the first half of the match but he was one of the fee that stayed on after lots of changes were made to try it out in the game

He just used the players he had at his disposal. Rich can play RW, he can play in front of Kane if needed. It's a training session, they're going to train them in roles Conte might use in a game.

Welcome back! Think it looks pretty good, only options I don't love are Bernardo (mostly playing as a defensive CM now) and maybe Mings, just because he's very prone to a booking and I'm a little unsure if he's nailed with the signings Villa have made. I know he's captain but I'd find it hard to see Konsa benched regularly

Zinchenko to Arsenal makes so much sense from every point of view. This deal could be done quickly and then it's time to bring in another midfielder, Tielemans or Paqueta. Then the transfer window can close and I would be very happy with it.

Hey guys, I wanted to ask regarding Price Change Prediction during the season.
    1) By how much do mid-premium players really increase/decrease based on performance? Lets say Reece blanks first 2 GWs will he be cheaper? Lets say Ramsdale gets 2 CS first 2 GW's will he be costlier?
    2) Does player position affect rate of change of price? Eg. Midfielder price change compared to Attacker
    3) Does player base price affect rate of change of price? Eg. Son at 12, Mount at 8
    4) How does player %ownerships affect rate of change in price?

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      4 years, 4 days ago

      1) Performance doesn't directly affect price changes, people buying or selling a player is what results in price changes. Naturally that's linked to performances but the best thing to look out for is if you have a player with high ownership which starts plummeting in ownership, or a player with very low ownership that suddenly picks up a lot of owners. An example of the former could be Neto if he doesn't kick off quickly given his high backing so far, people may jump off quickly resulting in value decreasing. The latter might be someone like Wan-Bissaka in his first season, was priced at 4m (?) and was a surprise starter but had a great first game and his low price enabled people to spend money elsewhere.

      2. Position makes no difference
      3. Base price doesn’t matter
      4. This is the key one. The higher the ownership, generally you'll need a lot of people to buy a player for them to rise. The lower the ownership, then the less buyers will be needed to trigger a rise. The problem is often with losing value, if you have a low-owned player then you'll probably be unlikely to see drops unless a lot of people sell, but the inverse is also true. I think there's generally a certain percentage of buys/sales relative to ownership that need to be reached to trigger a change but I'm not sure.

Couple of other things to note:
      - A flagged player will have to meet a higher threshold of sales to drop in price compared to normal, and the more significant the flag the higher the threshold
      - Players that are newly registered normally have a period of 7 days where any price changes are blocked
      - If a player goes from a yellow/orange flag to being unflagged, or from a red flag to an orange/yellow flag, their price can change. If a player goes directly from a red flag to unflagged (i.e. returning from suspension) price changes are blocked for a week.
      - Price changes generally occurr around 1.30AM GMT if I remember correctly

Your best bet at keeping track of potential changes is FPL stats: http://www.fplstatistics.co.uk/Home/IndexAndroid2

It's not perfect and isn't always right (FPL don't release the exact mechanisms behind price changes and there have been occasions where, going on the norm, changes should or shouldn't have occurred and the opposite has happened, or players seem to take forever to rise so it feels like a manual block is on them (a good example is Lukaku last season, after the block should have been lifted he rose in ownership by about maybe 15-20% and didn't rise in price once despite being predicted to every day for weeks).

Sorry for the overly long post, hope it helps.

Thank you so much for taking the time out to explain each point. Some people in this forum like you are really really nice! Wanted to know all this because I had a dilemma. Suppose I go with Ramsdale for 8 GW's before WC and then shift to Alison. How far will Alisons price be compared to the 0.5 price difference it is right now. So basically if I need to plan my squad for longer run than before WC because the players you want to get further down the line could increase in prices so you need to buy them beforehand or they will be out of reach since the profits are halved.

        1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
          • 5 Years
          4 years, 4 days ago

Not at all, glad I could help. Like Mentaculus says below, I'd imagine after 8 GWs that the price difference will remain the same, goalkeeper transfers are generally not done very much so I think it's likely neither will change at all unless someone gets an injury. I wouldn't worry about it too much anyway, you'll inevitably make a bit back in value accrued in some players that you'll end up getting rid of so you'll probably be fine but I'd be surprised if that early on you missed out on a GK by .1/.2

Oh and Friday is generally the busiest day for transfers, whether there's a Friday or Saturday deadline. If Saturday then that's busy too but Friday is probably when most casual players make their changes, and it makes most sense for more involved players too as manager press conferences are on on Thursdays and Fridays

    3. The Mentaculus
      • 5 Years
      4 years, 4 days ago

Firstly, if you're not aware of it, there's fplstatistics.co.uk to check price changes - usually fairly accurate for indicating which players are on the verge of rising/dropping in price.

I'm sure there's some round here who know more about this but I'll give it a go. Basically the higher the ownership % the more transfers it takes to budge price. So the biggest & most rapid changes come from low-owned assets - often mid-price/budget bandwagons that people hop on at the same time for a favourable fixture run. Highly owned premiums will change more gradually. Reece James & Ramsdale kind of fall in between these categories really; I would imagine their prices would be fairly stable if you're talking 2 week timeframe, unless Chelsea/Arsenal make a really shockingly bad start.

Not sure how/if position affects changes.

I wanted this information since I was thinking about going with Ramsdale for the first 8 GW's and then wildcarding to Alison. Wanted to know the how much estimated increase so that alison is still within 0.5m reach post the halving in profit concept fpl has considering Ramsdale overperforms by keeping 5 CS matching alisons score.

My prediction would be that Alisson's price changes will be minimal to none in 8 GW. GK transfers in general should be pretty low-level in this period, barring injuries (but even if say Ederson got injured, most would probably hop on Steffen rather than Alisson)

Ok thank you assuming Ramsdale keeps the same amount of CS as Alison during the 8 GW's and Ramsdale being somewhat of a less popular choice 18% ownership vs 9%, maybe Ramsdale could close the gap a bit and I would need only 0.4m to make the switch. Is that possible?

I think Ramsdale's price will be static too. Maybe he gets a 0.1-0.2 bump if he's doing well & Chelsea are enough of a mess to spark a Mendy panic-sale.

Even if Ramsdale concedes a few I imagine the vast majority of owners will hang on til the fixtures turn in GW9

Trying to move a little bit away from template but it's difficult this early on.

    Martinez / Olsen
    TAA / Cancelo / James / Perisic / (Tomiyasu)
    Salah / Mount / Neto / (Andreas) / (Colback)
    Haaland / Jesus / Mateta

    ...thinking of Neto > Eze?

When casuals realise that Greenwood rarely plays they are going to start panic selling and dropping his price.

personally don't see Chelsea as a bad fixture for spurs 2nd game, looks like they will be playing potentially a new system and if not will be bedding in new personell

    goals in that

If you’re going Jesus are you gambling on the double up with Saka? I’m sure many have Tomyasu aswell.

Not seeing much love for Foden, Jesus and Foden instead of Saka?

Frank has been really talking him up so I wouldn't be so sure. Either way it has cocked up my 2nd keeper choice which was Brentford's reserve keeper Balcombe at 4m. The new keeper will probably be 4.5m

I’m not sure I get this logic. Spence has only played championship. Conte will go for the league. He won’t rely on Spence…

Emerson Royal will leave, and Spence will be back up to Doherty.

With Chelsea pushing hard for big name CBs, must assume they want to stick with 3 at the back. Building around your best players, in this case James and Chilwell probably smart.

Why is Diaz more popular than Kulu when the latter has scored more points?

    1. Q
      • 14 Years
      4 years, 4 days ago

Diaz 64 points in 900 or so mins could be 2.5x that this year as he started in Jan. Plus second season and is now familiar with the team and klops system

      1. Bartowski
        • 15 Years

And Kul is 99 pts in 1259 mins. All the same points apply.

It’s just following the crowd. Both Alisson and Robertson are better than Diaz, imo. Looks a bit raw, whilst not translating good performances into consistent FPL returns. Happy to be proven wrong, however.

Son can score c. 50% more points for each goal due to CS point and extra point for mid

Plus he's the focal point of Spurs attack

Goals will still be spread around at City. Peps not going to turn the team into a feeding Haaland only effort

Currently so much more excited to play the draft version of the game, although struggling to think what order I would pick…

    A) Salah
    B) Son
    C) KDB
    D) Kane
    E) Haaland
    F) Sterling

    Choose your order!

I’m struggling for who I would pick 3rd.remember injuries make even more of an impact in the draft game
