We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 5 ahead of Tuesday’s 18:00 BST deadline.

We line up in a 4-3-3 formation this week and, as ever, are limited to £83.0m for our first XI.

SCOUT PICKS CHANGES FOR 2022/23

While the maximum starting XI budget remains the same, there has been a slight change to how we nominate substitutes following our on-site poll.

FPL Gameweek 3 Scout Picks: Kane returns, Maddison in

As a result, given that our starting XI costs £83.0m, we have £17.0m to spend on the four substitutes you see on our Scout Picks graphic.

However, in an attempt to please both crowds (the poll was extremely tight after all), we’ll be giving some slightly more expensive alternatives below where appropriate, who in most cases, carry a bit more potential.

GOALKEEPER

The best FPL goalkeepers and defenders for a Gameweek 30 Free Hit

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jose Sa (£5.0m) is our chosen goalkeeper in Gameweek 5, ahead of a favourable away fixture at Bournemouth. The 29-year-old has already racked up four save points in as many matches and this week he’ll be up against a Cherries’ side struggling for goals, having failed to net since the opening day. Bruno Lage’s rear-guard have conceded just two goals in their last three matches, despite facing three decent attacks: Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

    Hi Folks,

Save FT or move James to Perisic? (Trippier would be my first sub)

    Thanks. 😎

      Perisic is a good option.

West Ham could be a belter and he could be rested against Fulham.

      I have him.

Which is the best pick for captain? I notice Haaland is currently the popular choice but he's a huge rotation risk. Pep has already said that he won't play 3 times in a week, so my guess is he's going to be benched. City have enough firepower to beat Forest without Haaland, so it makes sense to rest him, especially now the midweek games have started.

Haaland isn't being rested for Villa.

He's also unlikely to not play for a week + before Champions League. That would be 10 days.

    4. Johnny too hotty
      • 14 Years

I would agree, Haarland is not playing the full game abnd maybe not even starting.
Salah is an easy captain choice, he kind of has no choice but to play 90 mins?

Question for the people who think Haaland doesn't start tomorrow night vs Forest...

    4. Casualspotted

He will play about 100 minutes in next 2 GWs

    5. Big Mike
      • 3 Years
      3 years, 7 months ago

My guess is that he will be benched for the Forest game as City have more than enough firepower to win without Haaland in the team. If City need to chase the game (which is unlikely) then he can come off the bench. This will mean that he is fresh for the Villa game, playing maybe 60 mins and coming off when the game is already won. As for the next 3 games, I would imagine Pep will use him sparingly in the CL against Sevilla with a view to playing him for as long as possible against Spurs. How long he will play against Dortmund will depend on how the Sevilla and Spurs games go.

I think so too, but this season we have barely been using our FT’s. I think it will continue, so it might be wise to maximise on such opportunities.

Pool fixtures look good to jump on from a defensive perspective.

        Newcastle, Everton, Wolves, Chelsea, Brighton.

Newcastle injuries, Everton and Wolves not good at scoring, and Chelsea hit and miss in front of goal. Brighton the outlier really. Compare that with James and Pool is better, I think.

Just saw Reece James down the frozen aisle in Tesco. I asked him if he’s playing tonight. He grabbed my shoulder and shouted “You know it baby!” before running off without his trolley and doing a triple cartwheel in front of the checkouts.

Hope this clears up any confusion about his availability for tonight.

    Ward, Iverson
    TAA, Cancelo, James, Perisic, Saliba
    Salah, KDB, Martinelli, Kulu, Andreas
    Jesus, Greenwood, Taylor

    2FT, $0.3ITB

Need to somehow get Haaland and get rid of Ward but don't really want to sacrifice KDB. Only other option is to remove Salah and Cancelo to free up funds and make some big changes?
