Gameweek 8 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will go ahead this weekend – but there’ll only be seven Premier League matches taking place.

As feared, two further fixturesManchester United v Leeds United and Chelsea v Liverpool have been postponed because of policing resources needed in London for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which takes place next Monday.

Brighton and Hove Albion v Crystal Palace also remains off, despite the train strike that precipitated the postponement now being cancelled.

The revised Gameweek 8 schedule now looks like this (UK dates/times are listed):

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR FPL MANAGERS? INITIAL REACTION

After an opening month in which there was plenty of ‘template’ tedium and thinly veiled humble brags from FPL managers burning transfers because their squads were apparently unimprovable, we’ve now got some welcome chaos.

It’s not quite the full-on bedlam many of us had feared/hoped for, however, as there had been initial suggestions that all three London-based fixtures would be called off. That scenario would have left many of us well short of a full starting XI and prompted a lot more discussion about Wildcards and Free Hits.

As it turns out, most of us may be able to get to an 11-strong line-up without much fuss – although the lack of a fixture for Liverpool, Chelsea and Brighton in particular may be the Buckaroo moment for those FPL managers hovering over the Wildcard button.

We’ll be exploring the pros and cons of a Gameweek 8 Wildcard in a follow-up piece.

    Ramsdale (Ward
TAA (P) Cancelo, Trippier James (P) Walker (I)
Salah (P) Gross (P) Eze (P) Andreas, Martinelli
    Haaland, Mitrovic, Archer.

    Has to a WC? 🙂

It does matter regarding Wildcards as most will have Ward as second keeper. Their were a few murmurs that Iversen will start.

No one knows for sure, Rodger’s has remained quite supportive of Ward so far, but players were shouting at him last game which wasn’t great. Monitor press conferences.

Maybe just Salah to Son and play 10, team doesn’t seem too bad? Or would you WC?

    Ward
    Cancelo Trippier Neco
    Martinelli Andreas
    Haaland Jesus Mitrovic
    Iversen Salah* Robbo* Gross* Zaha*

Yeah fair, just not sure which defenders have a lot of upside. Not convinced on Arsenal CS vs. Brentford, Perisic I like but will have to see if he plays midweek, Dias upside is probably 6 points etc.

Tbh I think I would downgrade (maybe even to Patterson) and upgrade Groß for a hit. The player you get in will probably have a 4+ EV anyway, which makes up for the hit. And Groß' fixtures are bad

Can get an OK 10 out without hits
    Ward
    Walker Trippier Neco
    Andreas Martinelli Dasilva
    Jesus Toney Haaland

(Sanchez Diaz TAA Robbo Sterling all without fixture)

2FTs but will WC next week all things being equal,
and enough ITB to do Sterling Robbo Diaz > KdB Son Patterson (-4)
    Worth doing?
If so, is it also worth Sanchez > playing keeper to 4.7 for another hit or just play Ward and get on with it.
    Many thanks

You should be fine with Sterling, Robbo to de Bruyne, Cancelo/Arsenal defender. Pep might rotate some players though and we’ve seen de Bruyne starting on bench recently.

Hi guys, just a quick quandary here.

I’ve no WC left, but if there was any week to lose the likes of Trent & Salah, even for hits, does it somehow work out better to lose them in a week where they don’t play at all? Even at the cost of hits?

For example I think I’m gonna have to do something like:

    Sanchez + Trent + Salah > Pope + Cancelo + Son for like a -8

But this could work out ok given that none of the ones being taken out don’t play at all?

    Thanks guys.

    Ward
    Cancelo Gabriel Neco
    Son Martinelli Andreas Colback
    Haaland Mitrovic Jesus

    Sanchez TAA Groß Cucu

    What to do?
    A. Keep WC, and possibly a -4 to improve on Colback

    B. Wildcard to something like

    Cancelo Trippier Gabriel Digne
    KDB/Son Martinelli Gordon
    Haaland Kane Mitrovic

Not bad. Close to what I've got for my WC draft right now.

Are you setting up for a 3-4-3 after GW8 or a 4-3-3? With current setup, you're going to have a benching headache perhaps in GW9 (depending on Perisic usage, I suppose).
