Gameweek 8 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will go ahead this weekend – but there’ll only be seven Premier League matches taking place.

As feared, two further fixturesManchester United v Leeds United and Chelsea v Liverpool have been postponed because of policing resources needed in London for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which takes place next Monday.

Brighton and Hove Albion v Crystal Palace also remains off, despite the train strike that precipitated the postponement now being cancelled.

The revised Gameweek 8 schedule now looks like this (UK dates/times are listed):

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR FPL MANAGERS? INITIAL REACTION

After an opening month in which there was plenty of ‘template’ tedium and thinly veiled humble brags from FPL managers burning transfers because their squads were apparently unimprovable, we’ve now got some welcome chaos.

It’s not quite the full-on bedlam many of us had feared/hoped for, however, as there had been initial suggestions that all three London-based fixtures would be called off. That scenario would have left many of us well short of a full starting XI and prompted a lot more discussion about Wildcards and Free Hits.

As it turns out, most of us may be able to get to an 11-strong line-up without much fuss – although the lack of a fixture for Liverpool, Chelsea and Brighton in particular may be the Buckaroo moment for those FPL managers hovering over the Wildcard button.

We’ll be exploring the pros and cons of a Gameweek 8 Wildcard in a follow-up piece.

For those on wildcard, which defenders are you targeting?

Currently on this team but am considering downgrading Cancelo and Perisic to upgrade Colback to Zaha:

    Pope
    Cancelo Trippier Perisic
    KDB Son Martinelli Andreas
    Haaland Mitrovic Isak

    Iverson Saliba N.Williams Colback

Slim pickings in defence but I'm on Cancelo James Trippier Neco Patterson.

Perisic is an absolute nightmare to own, he's a 5.5 defender but will spend most of the time on your bench and a lot of time on Tottenham's bench.

Upgrade Colback, he ain't first choice and cost me 0.2 in TV.

      Threemium is too much IMO.

I wouldn’t risk Perisic. Saliba/Fofana/Dunk are better value options.

Downgrade KDB/Son and upgrade Colback for a more balanced midfield

I have Saliba. I’m toying with Fofana and Emerson over Cancelo and Peresic which allows me to turn Colback into Zaha.

I'm put off Perisic because he's always gonna be at risk of rotation. But I understand wanting to go for a Spurs defender in the short term.

I've gone for a WC defence of Cancelo, Trips, James, Dier and Emerson

I'm okay having him as a 5th defender at 4.0 and will be playing 3-4-3 most weeks.

I'm also potentially looking to upgrade him to Trent in gw12 by downgrading Kane as well when he faces Utd away

But Williams and Patterson are nailed 4.1 defenders, Emerson loses his spot?

I'm not looking to start Emerson in any of the next 4 gws and will mostly be my 3rd sub.

Emerson could be Neco or Patterson and they'll have the same spot in my team. Just prefer West Hams fixtures in the next 4 over Forest and Everton and he's just back up until I'm ready to upgrade him to Trent

Trippier nearly at 37% ownership, still undecided if I'll bring him in or not, had very solid attacking stats but I must be alone in not being too convinced by Newcastle's next batch of fixtures after this weekend, especially with them having conceded a lot of shots so far this season. Could end up being quite damaging if he does well and I avoid him but don't want to make a pick solely based on fear

Trippier isn't a player to fear lol I've owned him all season and benched him for his goal. But on the other hand there are hardly any decent defenders.

I had him to begin with and planned to WC him back in after moving out for James a few weeks ago. Fulham, Brentford and ManUtd are all better than expected going forward (not convinced by MU but they're a threat on the break at least and even when playing poorly only rarely seem to lose against Newcastle), but all those teams do concede a lot of chances so I'd expect some attacking returns there

It seems very strange setting up a WC team (normally target the next 3 - 6 games) but avoiding players from the likes of Manchester United, , Chelsea, Liverpool ... and also Brighton and Hove Albion, Crystal Palace & Leeds United - except for whomever you can get on your bench. Also people dropping Arsenal players like a hot spud.

So it's basically going into the GW with a WC that gives the bare bones perhaps of 11 starters and players that blank on the bench with the added risk of a few no-shows out of the starting 11.

    Tough times, tough decisions 🙂

For me it’s about maximising what would have been a terrible GW but not losing sight of the upcoming fixtures hence a bench of sterling James zaha

    Playing:

    Ward
    Cancelo - Trippier - Neco
    Martinelli - Neto - Andreas
    Kane - Haaland - Jesus

Not playing: Sanchez - TAA - James - Gross - Diaz

      B

Liverpool's fixtures aren't great for the next 3 as well

    Good Morning DZ.

    This risky WC worth it?

    Pope
    Trippier Saliba Neco
    Bowen Maddison Martinelli Gordon
    Haaland Isak Mitrovic
    ---------------------------------------------------
    Iversen Andreas James Fofana

    Bank: 8.7m.

    GW 9 - Save FT.
    GW 10 - Gordon + Saliba > Zaha + Andersen
    GW 11 - Save FT.
    GW 12 - Bowen/Maddison + Trippier > Salah + TAA

Or I could have KDB instead of Maddison or Bowen. Which is less fun IMO 🙂

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

Setting the agenda with a tilt?

Andy has played a blinder here, even though it's Leicester I'd expect them to be improving and I'd be surprised if he doesn't opt elsewhere for a Salah replacement.

KDB with a hattrick inside 24 mins and 4 goals in the 5-1 win over Wolves last season.

I like playing AC/DC and cranking the volume up high, but mine warhound, Teddy-boy the Labrador, absolutely hates it and barks like crazy. Or perhaps he is a big fan? I always play them before a tourney.

Like the Gordon punt. The rest are very very boring.

Also like the ASM thinking but agree with the nudist above, he’s a bit crap.

Standard. You must have built up a lot of TV to afford it. It looks like a 101.5m squad.
