Gameweek 8 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will go ahead this weekend – but there’ll only be seven Premier League matches taking place.

As feared, two further fixturesManchester United v Leeds United and Chelsea v Liverpool have been postponed because of policing resources needed in London for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which takes place next Monday.

Brighton and Hove Albion v Crystal Palace also remains off, despite the train strike that precipitated the postponement now being cancelled.

The revised Gameweek 8 schedule now looks like this (UK dates/times are listed):

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR FPL MANAGERS? INITIAL REACTION

After an opening month in which there was plenty of ‘template’ tedium and thinly veiled humble brags from FPL managers burning transfers because their squads were apparently unimprovable, we’ve now got some welcome chaos.

It’s not quite the full-on bedlam many of us had feared/hoped for, however, as there had been initial suggestions that all three London-based fixtures would be called off. That scenario would have left many of us well short of a full starting XI and prompted a lot more discussion about Wildcards and Free Hits.

As it turns out, most of us may be able to get to an 11-strong line-up without much fuss – although the lack of a fixture for Liverpool, Chelsea and Brighton in particular may be the Buckaroo moment for those FPL managers hovering over the Wildcard button.

We’ll be exploring the pros and cons of a Gameweek 8 Wildcard in a follow-up piece.

OK so looks like a -12 is needed to field a playing 11, Wildcard right? Even if it mean I will not bring in the players I wanted on planned WC team?

    1. LC1
      • 11 Years

Very tough one. You don't want to bring in a half hearted WC team because of this weeks cancelled fixtures.
I would imagine you were looking to lose 1 / 2 Liverpool assets so that shouldn't be a problem that they're not playing this weekend.

What did your initial WC team look like?

You dont need to field a full 11 to get decent GW rank this week i guess. Maybe take a max -8.

Got 5 blanks this week so WC incoming. thoughts on this bunch
    please:

    Pope (4.0)
    Cancelo Trippier James (4.5 4.0)
    Maddison Bowen Kulu Bailey (Sterling)
    Isak Mitrovic Haaland

Sterling to play in place of bailey from next week, and will do Isak to Toney (probs) for Gw9.

    First WC draft;

    Cancelo Trippier Emerson
    KDB Martinelli Bailey Andreas
    Kane(C) Haaland Mitrovic

    Ward James Rashford N.Williams

    0.5 ITB.

Probably going to do Sanchez + Salah > Pope + Son for -4 to field 11.

To avoid the hit, I could just play Ward (tot). Will have to play Sanchez (liv) next week or WC.

I'd have Kane and ASM over Son and Toney personally.

Also I'd upgrade one of your 4.0 defenders to a playing defender that can cover for James this week and can rotate with Trippier when Newcastle have a tough fixture. Ideally you don't want to rely on Neco or Patterson

      1. WVA
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 6 months ago

I like to have a premium in midfield so I can get Son/KDB/Salah etc and ASM will be injured more than he plays.

Toney and Mitrovic also better value than Kane.

Agree on the defender situation but there isn't any defenders I'd want over Neco Patterson and they have great fixtures.

What defenders would interest you? I don't even want James particularly.

        1. House Frey Wedding Planner
          • 7 Years

I have Cancelo, Trippier, James and Neco on my wildcard as well.

Right now I'm leaning towards Dier as my 5th defender. Good fixture for gw8 to cover for James and nailed for a good defensive team.

If I decide to FH and have already used 1 of my FTs, will I get that FT back next GW?

The player you transfer out will be restored to your GW9 line up. But you won't have 2 free transfers waiting for you
