The September international break has barely begun and already the injury flags are starting to appear in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

From early squad withdrawals to in-game fitness concerns, we round up the latest FPL team news from around the globe.

Stay tuned for our comprehensive international guide later today, which details which players from all 20 Premier League clubs are on duty with their respective countries.

ALEXANDER ISAK

Thursday morning brought news that Alexander Isak (£7.1m) had withdrawn from the Sweden squad.

The Newcastle United striker had missed training with his national side earlier in the week because of a “little feeling” and will now head back to England.

“It is of course sad mainly for Alex but also for us as a team. After speaking with both our medical team and Alex, it is the right decision for him to leave. I hope he is back as soon as possible.” – Sweden head coach Janne Andersson

The issue perhaps sounds more precautionary based on the comments above but it’ll leave Isak’s new and existing owners sweating on his fitness ahead of next weekend. He is the most-bought forward of Gameweek 9 so far and has been subject to over 110,000 transfers in.

Elsewhere in Newcastle news, Bruno Guimaraes (£5.6m) has reportedly picked up a thigh injury and will miss Brazil’s friendly against Ghana on Friday. He hasn’t withdrawn from the squad as yet, however.

NATHAN PATTERSON

Just when Nathan Patterson was establishing himself as Everton’s first-choice right-back and perhaps also many Fantasy managers’ preferred budget defender, Nathan Patterson (£4.1m) has been hit by injury.

The Scotland international picked up a knee problem in Wednesday’s win over Ukraine, initially trying to run the injury off but ultimately departing Hampden Park on a stretcher.

National team coach Steve Clarke didn’t sound too optimistic after full-time:

“He felt something on his leg. We’ll wait and see what the medics say. Obviously, we don’t know [yet] because he’s got to go away and get assessed but it doesn’t look like a good one. Fingers crossed it’s not too bad.” – Steve Clarke

The Liverpool Echo also reported that Patterson’s team-mate Vitalli Mykolenko (£4.5m) wasn’t risked by Ukraine last night because of a “slight issue” but he remains with his national team for now.

LUCAS DIGNE

Aston Villa’s injuries are mounting at the back, with midfield shield Boubacar Kamara (£4.9m) joining Matty Cash (£4.7m) and Diego Carlos (£4.8m) on the injury list after Gameweek 8.

The news got even worse from France earlier this week, with reports suggesting that Lucas Digne (£4.7m) will now be sidelined with a suspected stress fracture to his ankle.

Ludwig Augustinsson (£4.3m) would be in line to deputise for Digne should the Frenchman be ruled out for a lengthy period, although Ashley Young (£4.4m) – currently filling in for Cash on the opposite flank – is another possibility.

MARTIN ODEGAARD

Unlike everyone else in this article, Martin Odegaard (£6.5m) hasn’t actually withdrawn from his national team’s squad.

But the chances of him representing Norway in their two UEFA Nations League ties remain in some doubt.

Odegaard missed the Gameweek 8 win over Brentford with a calf problem, heading to Scandinavia for international duty thereafter.

However, Norway boss Stale Solbakken suggested he could be there merely in a cheerleading capacity, with concerns remaining about his fitness.

“He’s not doing well now. Now it’s a matter of getting a final decision on whether he can be in both or one game. We’ll certainly see him in Norway, either as a player or a ‘fourth coach’. It means a lot to have him.” – Stale Solbakken

HUGO LLORIS

Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) is an early doubt for the north London derby at the beginning of October after withdrawing from international duty for France.

A “small injury” to the goalkeeper’s right thigh was diagnosed by the national team doctor upon his arrival at Les Bleus’ Clairefontaine base.

It doesn’t sound too serious but there’ll be plenty of FPL managers – particularly those on a Wildcard – who wouldn’t mind Lloris having to endure a spell on the sidelines, with the cut-price Fraser Forster (£4.0m) next in line to start between the posts for Antonio Conte’s team.

Team-mate Ben Davies (£5.0m) was also pulled out of the Wales squad and faces a race against time to be fit for Gameweek 9.

EDOUARD MENDY

There’s a similar goalkeeping situation at Chelsea, with injury concerns hanging over the more expensive first-choice custodian and his cheaper deputy waiting in the wings for a chance.

Edouard Mendy (£4.9m) has pulled out of the Senegal squad to continue his rehab from a knee injury at Cobham, having been sidelined since Gameweek 6.

The Athletic report that he “has a chance” of being fit for Gameweek 9.

Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.4m) was selected in Mendy’s absence to play in Graham Potter’s first match in charge, a one-all draw with RB Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League last Wednesday.

Potter, of course, might favour Kepa over Mendy regardless of fitness, with the Spaniard seen as being more comfortable on the ball – a quality the new Chelsea boss has historically liked his goalkeepers to have.

OTHERS

Two Nottingham Forest players have pulled out of their respective national team squads with unspecified issues: Morgan Gibbs-White (£5.5m) and Nigeria international Emmanuel Dennis (£5.9m).

Brentford’s Keane Lewis-Potter (£5.3m) has joined Gibbs-White in leaving the England under-21 camp; again, the severity of the injury isn’t known at this stage.

Naby Keita (£4.8m) reported for international duty with Guinea as a formality but, suffering from a muscle injury, has now returned to Liverpool.

On Thursday, Martin Dubravka (£4.3m) returned to Manchester United as a precaution and will have an unnamed injury assessed.

Zambian pair Enock Mwepu (£5.3m) and Patson Daka (£5.7m) have also travelled back to England after picking up illnesses.

Is Pope and Trippier too much of a risk? I'm leaning towards yes but interested in feedback.
Also if only one which one? I think Trippier due to attacking returns although selling trippier would open a space for TAA in my 3 man defence.

I don't like the idea of double D especially with a mid table team. Going with Guaita GK with Trippier.

That's what I'm currently on although comments in yesterday's article about viera occasionally rotating his keepers last season is a bit of a concern, particularly since iversen is my 2nd keeper.

I have them both. Happy to take them on their individual qualities. Pope gets a lot of save points, Trippier gets fairly good attacking returns.

Bad idea since those 2 are fixture proof, meaning the one you transfer out can easily haul in that match

Maybe KDB to Son in week 11 and then Son to Son to Salah 12-14 and KDB 15 & 16 but only if you have a spare transfer. As mentioned previously you'll probably have other issues to deal with like suspensions, injuries etc

Not having the best start of the season at 1.5mil, but trying to catch-up now with attacking some juicy fixtures by good mid-priced players (Zaha, Mitro, Toney, Madds), and also going with risky assumption that Son is unlocked and entering his usual yearly streak.
But also leaving place for bringing more ARS&MCI after gw12

Looked at him also, there was a post about him yesterday too. Not out of the question, I thought he looked half decent in the Spurs game tbf. Concerns are the reliability of starts. If you feel he’s due a run and Rodger’s prefers him to Iheanacho then he’s a possibility but if you look at the minutes for all the Leicester forwards it screams to me unreliability for x minutes. I feel Rodger’s just doesn’t know his best front line or system even which also affects Barnes and his nailedness. Solanke’s main positives are his nailed status, Pens and budget price which just makes him the better pick imo.

Certainly won't get unanimous approval here over your meat & potatoes, nailed & on pens types. 😉

Might be worth consulting a Leicester expert like Old Man when he's around? Or check Sam Martin's predicted lineup (NFO being the money game)?

    Pulling the trigger on WC.

    Current team:

    Ward
    Trippier Gabriel Niko
    KDB Diaz Odegaard Zaha
    Haaland Mitrovic Jesus

    Sanchez Da Silva Dalot Trent

    To

    Guitia
    James Cancelo Trippier Neko Fofana
    KDB Diaz Maddison Zaha Pereira
    Haaland Mitro Toney

0.2 short though. Where/ who go change?

Fofana to Patterson (subject to injury), Juston or Mings?
Diaz (8.1 Sale price, due to drop tonight) to ?

    Thoughts on the team?

Template. Tto find missing 0.2 you may consider Fofana to Tomiyasu or Emerson. They have at least remote chances to get some minutes. I do not see any other sensible option without sacrifaicing Diaz

I'm personally going with Son, give him a couple of weeks. Arsenal may just be a perfect fixture for him, and he may enter his streak. Then after gw12 transfer to KDB

          • 4 Years

Yeah I’m going Son over KDB myself. Helps negotiate City’s GW12 blank. Not on WC though, thinking I’ll use that in GW13 to max out on City, Arsenal and Liverpool assets

I know fixtures aren't ideal but I'm considering going with a utd midfielder instead of Zaha. Sancho won't work for you but rashford would save some cash although need an injury update
Otherwise, fofana is the obvious downgrade

      1. Eric Banternaaa
        • 12 Years

With City this week this is something I would look at next week. Maybe Maddison to Sancho.

Better options than Diaz. He's not creating anything and fixtures not great . He's just relying on goals and he's inconsistent. Salah , Trent or avoid Pool imo. Definitely downgrade him

Most of the guys on WC are pretty clear-cut for me, but I have an conflicting feelings on Diaz. Is he still a good option to bring on WC? At the current state of Liverpool's form, I can't justify Salah being worth 5mil more, although he is more secure of starts. Then again, if Liverpool turns the corner after IB, all attackers should thrive, Diaz maybe the most, since he seems to play pretty central

If Liverpool turn the corner won't you want salah instead? I can either go KDB/son and Diaz or Salah and Sancho/Zaha/Rashford. Currently on the salah combo.

Of couse I would want Salah more but same as in the beginning of the season, I'm not sure Salah is worth 5mil more than Diaz, those money can go a long way to improving the team. And as for comparisons, I wholeheartedly believe KDB/Diaz combo is better than Salah/Zaha, but ofc to each his own

Zaha is definitely the weak link which is why I'll probably opt for a utd midfielder instead. I just think with Liverpool getting some injured players back and having a well needed break they will turn the corner starting this week so I don't want to go without salah.

Not sure what relevance that has. I reckon a fit Neto playing for a top team in the championship could have scored 29 goals in a season

I sold Martinelli instead of Odegaard earlier this gameweek to avoid the price drop, as Odegaard dropping wouldn't affect his selling price, and I figured I would likely sell the other one, too, later this gameweek.

However, I have now realised that Martinelli's selling price wouldn't have been affected by the drop as I started the season with him at 6.0, and must have been assuming I bought at 6.5 when I decided to sell him.

Quite foolish, especially as Odegaard was already injured and may not get straight back into the Arsenal lineup, and with Martinelli being the superior choice in general, most likely, and with me now possibly preferring to keep one of the Arsenal mids. Amateur Hour.

At least I can bench Odegaard for Patterson at Southampton if necessary.

Martinelli's current price is 6.6m. If you bought him at 6.0m, his selling price is 6.3m. If he drops in price his selling price would be affected (go down to 6.2m).

Used my FT to do Groß to Maddison. Now:

    Pope (Ward)
    Cancelo, Perisic, Trippier (Saliba, Neco)
    KDB, Zaha, Maddison, Martinelli (Andreas)
    Haaland, Jesus, Mitrovic

    A. Perisic to James/TAA for a hit
    B. KDB to Salah fot a hit
    C. WC
    D. Keep as is, hitless

(I don't feel like WCing, as I wouldn't make that many changes, but is there a more optimal time? I fear I might keep delaying it and end up not using at all — taking unnecessary hits therefore since sometimes "it's just a hit, no need to WC"... maybe GW12 with the blanks?)

    1. RAFA THE GAFFA
      • 10 Years

I was in a similar ish position. 13 is the other main time but I feel it’s a little late and I had already taken a hit last week so pulled the trigger. Plus I wanted Salah to Captain

      D.

You are just 2 transfers away from the GW9 WC template, which is great. Keep your WC, sell your Arsenal and City players all the way up to GW12 and get them back all in one fell swoop in a GW13 WC.

Sir, allow me if I may: isn't KDB to Salah worth a hit now, assuming I'll ditch the City players up to GW12 anyway?

  30. RAFA THE GAFFA

Looks like this might be my best WC option (TV is low I believe). Look solid enough?

Kilman to cover Tripps when needed. 0.5itb to get TAA for Cancelo in 12. Only other key decision would be TAA or Toney.

    Guaita

Cancelo, James, Trippier

Salah(C), Maddison, Zaha, Martinelli

    Haaland, Mitrovic, Toney

    (Ward, Kilman, Andreas, Neco)
