The Scoreboard presents all the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) numbers you need from Saturday’s matches on one screen.

As well as LiveFPL‘s rundown of the goals, assists and bonus points from the day’s FPL action, we’re bringing you a selection of the Opta stats that arrive in our Premium Members Area almost immediately after full-time in each fixture.

Our usual Scout Notes article, which summarises more of the main FPL talking points, notable manager quotes and injury news in extra detail, will follow later.

BRIEF ROUND-UP

FPL Gameweek 9: Saturday’s goals, assists, bonus and statistics

The 32%-owned Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.9m) limped off with a knock to his foot in 10-man Fulham’s defeat to Newcastle United, with Marco Silva saying further assessment would be needed on the striker this week.

Callum Wilson (£7.2m) crowned his return to the Magpies’ starting line-up with a goal in a 4-1 win, while owners of Kieran Trippier (£5.4m) were fortunate enough to see the defender substituted – banking clean sheet points and one bonus in the process – before the Cottagers scored a late consolation.

Harry Kane (£11.4m) consolidated second place in the overall FPL points standings with a goal in the early kick-off, his seventh league strike in eight matches.

But north London was red after the lunchtime derby, with the most-sold player of Gameweek 9, Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m), almost inevitably getting on the scoresheet and collecting two bonus points in the process. FPL’s most-owned midfielder, Gabriel Martinelli (£6.6m) also banked an assist, while Granit Xhaka (£5.1m) climbed into the top 10 in the midfielders’ points table with his fifth attacking return of 2022/23.

Liverpool’s under-par defensive displays continued at Anfield, with Brighton playing their part in a six-goal classic. It’s now just two clean sheets in seven league matches for the Reds, and they’ve yet to play any of last season’s top five. The Seagulls had six big chances on Saturday – only Newcastle registered more.

Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) was more involved in terms of goal attempts but had to make do with a solitary assist as Leandro Trossard (£6.6m) stole the headlines, scoring a hat-trick and moving above the Egyptian to the top of the midfielders’ FPL points table in Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge of Brighton.

Gone was the wing-back system as new Chelsea boss Graham Potter went with a back four in the absence of Marc Cucurella (£5.1m), although the defensive issues continued as the victorious Blues made it six matches without a clean sheet at Selhurst Park.

Southampton meanwhile are still without a shut-out to their name in 2022/23 after slumping to a 2-1 defeat to Everton, who named Anthony Gordon (£5.6m) on the bench after the youngster struggled with illness in midweek.

Ivan Toney (£7.3m) had been competing with Dominic Solanke (£5.7m) for a place in some FPL managers’ Gameweek 9 Wildcards but both blanked in a goalless draw at Bournemouth. Another semi-popular purchase for those overhauling their squads, the hitherto unimpressive Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m), kickstarted his season with a double-digit haul against Wolves.

Was gonna do Martinelli to Zaha, but reckon I may hold off. The former will be up against Trent... 😮

      1. kamdaraji
        • 16 Years
        3 years, 5 months ago

23 from 7 if I didn't wildcard so only two points worse off but only because of Jesus's lucky goal otherwise would have been six points better off and only difference in players is that I have Madison instead of Bernardo. Also had 3 MC and Arsenal players and now have two MC and one Arsenal so team is well prepared for blank GW12 and negotiating the next two GW's with some tricky fixtures

        1. Mozumbus
          • 4 Years
          3 years, 5 months ago

What I observed, most people WCed this week to chase price changes.
Did you get any price advantage, even if it was not the objective?

          1. kamdaraji
            • 16 Years
            3 years, 5 months ago

I caught Zaha, Toney and Madison's rise and avoided Trent's drop. I did not WC only because of price changes. I had three players from both MC and Arsenal and 2 Brighton players (Gross and Sanchez) and Trent with tough fixtures and not even keeping cleanies against relatively weak opposition. I also knew GW12 would be a difficult GW to negotiate down the line so I used the WC to sort out these issues and get players with nice fixtures and get rid of the likes of Jesus, Zinchenko and Bernardo and Brighton players while still holding Haaland, Cancelo and Martinelli. I can bring back Arsenal and MC players using FT's

So TAA is a success then
              Maddison is to prove yet
Toney and Zaha didn't meet expectations

Zaha and Madison have the fixtures to potentially do well. Not sure if I'll keep Toney yet. I'll have to wait and see how bad Mitrovic's injury is and if he is out for a while can oust him instead

What's the best use of FT (0.8 ITB)
    A. Salah to Sterling and use remaining funds to enforce elsewhere next GW
    B. Offload Jesus for ? (already got Haaland and Toney)

GW9 WC darling and touted heavily by FFS.

Scout picks are just for fun and a laugh and a chance for the guys to show they are 'maverick' and have 'content' and would never run with such teams

"Zaha, meanwhile, ended last season with nine goals in 15 Premier League starts. He has carried that goalscoring form into 2022/23, and with an ownership of just 15.1%, is one of the top midfield targets for those on a Wildcard."

As a result, he is averaging 6.2 points per match and looks to be an excellent pick from Gameweeks 10-16, when Crystal Palace sit top of our Season Ticker for fixture difficulty.

Palace an easy games for the opposition too and they will be targeting a shut-out for sure against fellow relegation candidates.

Playing the 'easy fixture game' is one thing if it's a top 6 side, playing it with Palace is another proposition altogether though

One more blank and he will be toast and sold by the masses

No way have you been sitting on this for 2 weeks. That's some Roy Keane level of bitterness ha.

Though you could well of spaffed your mustard too soon again Hotdog, since Chelsea he has one attacking return in two games and a sea of green in front of him.

Probably but depends on how many CIty and Arsenal players you have and injuries/suspensions tempting you to hit WC earlier.

Four total (two each). Kinda tempted to do it now, but can't yet convince myself to. Maybe after tomorrow and Monday, especially if Leicester show signs of life.

I think maybe hold it until after GW12. There's plenty of points in Arsenal and City before then, neither of them will fear Pool defence. GW12 should have a bit of rest rotation so WC then has a risk of missing a few midweek starters.

He's quality. But West Ham have a few scoring threats and Sterling and Aubameyang look like Chelseas's main threats. Dependant on Sterling getting into gear though. Bowen should be doing better this season to guarantee his spot on the plane to Qatar.

Is Bournemouth no longer a team to target or captain against?

Popular picks like Haaland Jesus Salah Toney Bailey Neto all failed to score and Isak also struggled apart from the pen.

And their only defeats this season has been against Man city, Arsenal and Liverpool.

It's a different game for the likes of Bournemouth when they play 'easier teams' ... would always back the top teams against them but would not be surprised if the likes of Madds, Zaha, Bowen, Mitro etc. struggle against them in a 'must win' game against weaker relegation threatened teams

Looking forward to next week. What do you think should be priority -- Selling Trent or Sterling? Buying James or Zaha?

    Pope
    Trent - Trippier - Struijk - Saliba
    KDB - Sterling - Maddison - Martinelli
    Haaland - Toney

    1FT, 0.2m
    (Ward Andreas Neco Mitrovic*)

    A) Save FT
    B) Sterling ➝ Zaha
    C) Trent ➝ James
    D) Sterling, Struijk ➝ Zaha, James (-4)

Looks like the Chelsea fixture against Wolves has the higher upside. Palace have Leeds who are tougher opponents than Wolves. Considering the options I’d back James for the haul more than Zaha. The fixture difficulty for Chelsea points to giving Sterling another go although a manager change for Wolves may change that thinking to some degree.

Very good chance I’ll be selling Trent for James next week although I already have Zaha.

My hesitation in selling Trent is because of GW13-14. Arsenal, City, Pool and Spurs have great fixtures. I want at least 7 players from those teams. Selling Trent now wouldn't allow me to bring him back in time for GW13. Cancelo and KDB would be priority to bring back in 13.

I hear ya on Trent for sure but the porous nature of Liverpool at the back is truly shocking, how long can we wait for Klopp to get a grip on that 😕 I get it’s about attacking returns with him too. If the free kick at the end of the game goes in we’d maybe look at it a little different. I can sell Perisic for James I guess, the signs at Liverpool are very worrying though with confidence clearly very low. Time to think all these through before the next gw I guess. Take care bud. 😀

Thanks for the comment. I was lacking such clear thoughts. Agree about the fixture difficulty. Trent to James seems more logical. Not keen on the hit, but D could cover both matches. But I also agree that Sterling needs another chance against Wolves.

Of course, I have to reconsider if Wolves gets a new manager. I don't think that they will sack Lage this week. But let's see.

Hope you and your team are having a cracking weekend.
