The Scoreboard presents all the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) numbers you need from Saturday’s matches on one screen.

As well as LiveFPL‘s rundown of the goals, assists and bonus points from the day’s FPL action, we’re bringing you a selection of the Opta stats that arrive in our Premium Members Area almost immediately after full-time in each fixture.

Our usual Scout Notes article, which summarises more of the main FPL talking points, notable manager quotes and injury news in extra detail, will follow later.

BRIEF ROUND-UP

FPL Gameweek 9: Saturday’s goals, assists, bonus and statistics

The 32%-owned Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.9m) limped off with a knock to his foot in 10-man Fulham’s defeat to Newcastle United, with Marco Silva saying further assessment would be needed on the striker this week.

Callum Wilson (£7.2m) crowned his return to the Magpies’ starting line-up with a goal in a 4-1 win, while owners of Kieran Trippier (£5.4m) were fortunate enough to see the defender substituted – banking clean sheet points and one bonus in the process – before the Cottagers scored a late consolation.

Harry Kane (£11.4m) consolidated second place in the overall FPL points standings with a goal in the early kick-off, his seventh league strike in eight matches.

But north London was red after the lunchtime derby, with the most-sold player of Gameweek 9, Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m), almost inevitably getting on the scoresheet and collecting two bonus points in the process. FPL’s most-owned midfielder, Gabriel Martinelli (£6.6m) also banked an assist, while Granit Xhaka (£5.1m) climbed into the top 10 in the midfielders’ points table with his fifth attacking return of 2022/23.

Liverpool’s under-par defensive displays continued at Anfield, with Brighton playing their part in a six-goal classic. It’s now just two clean sheets in seven league matches for the Reds, and they’ve yet to play any of last season’s top five. The Seagulls had six big chances on Saturday – only Newcastle registered more.

Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) was more involved in terms of goal attempts but had to make do with a solitary assist as Leandro Trossard (£6.6m) stole the headlines, scoring a hat-trick and moving above the Egyptian to the top of the midfielders’ FPL points table in Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge of Brighton.

Gone was the wing-back system as new Chelsea boss Graham Potter went with a back four in the absence of Marc Cucurella (£5.1m), although the defensive issues continued as the victorious Blues made it six matches without a clean sheet at Selhurst Park.

Southampton meanwhile are still without a shut-out to their name in 2022/23 after slumping to a 2-1 defeat to Everton, who named Anthony Gordon (£5.6m) on the bench after the youngster struggled with illness in midweek.

Ivan Toney (£7.3m) had been competing with Dominic Solanke (£5.7m) for a place in some FPL managers’ Gameweek 9 Wildcards but both blanked in a goalless draw at Bournemouth. Another semi-popular purchase for those overhauling their squads, the hitherto unimpressive Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m), kickstarted his season with a double-digit haul against Wolves.

Just been watching MotD. Despite hard fixtures and a blank, Jesus looked great and perhaps the sensible move is to hold him.

      What hard fixtures?
      Liverpool at home ?
Arsenal playing like yesterday will put several past them.

Yep, I’m not selling Jesus. Arsenal still looking very good and suits his style. He may blank vs Liverpool but I’ll still hang onto him

Considering having more than 3 Ars/City for the blank tbh with Jesus a possible transfer in for me. No one would be surprised to see him return v’s a Pool side with very low confidence. The way Brighton walked through their defence bodes very well for Jesus et al.

I never seen Liverpool looking so vulnerable at back. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Trent dropped for Milner, he was probably the worst player on pitch defensively

I would like to but can't afford that, James looking like a good make weight though, defenders look shocking this season, Trippier so so lucky too.

I sold him on my WC and preferred Toney + Mitrovic! Since then in 2 GWs Jesus has 14 points and Toney+Mitrovic 5 points combined! He is the most nailed player in the 2nd best attack of the league. Now I'm getting after his blank but he is a season keeper imo.

It seemed sensible to wildcard him out (I had 8 players for GW8) but regretting it now and seriously thinking of bringing him back for Liverpool. I have Mitro and Isak; I expect both to come back in the next couple of weeks and if they don’t, there’s probably better options up to GW12 but I’ve no doubt he’ll be in my team GW13

I did the same, sold him a couple of weeks ago on my WC thinking Toney Mitro were better and they've done absolutely nothing. Will be upgrading one of them back to Jesus after his blank.

What an absolute mess this is. Still sat around 3 mil OR

    Ward, Iversen
    Trent, James, Cancelo, Saliba, Neco
    KDB, Rashford, Martinelli, JWP, Andreas
    Haaland, Jesus, Mitro

Finger hovering over WC button, but have 2FT. Was going to start offloading Arsenal players in prep for the GW13 WC strategy, but I think I'm going to have to abandon that given some of the other dud assets in the team.

I reckon: Trent, JWP (who has City away this week) > Trippier, Bowen/Zaha/Maddison

Think I'm going to have to WC ahead of or in GW12 which will mean benching Haaland/Jesus/Cancelo who I want to keep long term.

People reckon this team is unsalvageable without WCing now? Esp if Mitro turns out to be injured.

    1. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years
      3 years, 5 months ago

You're being way too harsh on your team. Trent has to go but JWP is essentially fixture-proof & City's defending of set-pieces hasn't been that solid this season (think Palace esp). Wait for news on Mitrovic. Don't see any other "duds" & you have a strong 1st sub t9 cover short injury anyway

      1. Mr. O'Connell
        • 13 Years
        3 years, 5 months ago

Yeah fair points - maybe it's just Trent > Trippier and Mitro to someone.

Haven't given JWP enough time yet.

But I don't think there's any way I can do the WC13 strategy as I'll still have 6 City and Arsenal (not necessarily a bad thing) after next week.

When else would you WC? Earlier & miss out on Arsenal attackers v Leeds?

            • 13 Years
            3 years, 5 months ago

No would be in 12 if not 13. Think I'll just ride it out without planning and make a call there and then.

Tbh before this GW I was pencilling in transfers such as Jesus > Solanke to slowly get rid of Arsenal players, so this might be a blessing in disguise.

I’ve been super busy lately so have become slightly disconnected from the fpl community.

I’m just a couple of transfers away from a team that I’m very content with. I own four Arsenal and City players with all my chips in tact.

Could someone please tell me what the most popular wc strategy is at the moment?

The additional WC has kind of thrown me. What are the deadlines for the WCs?

1st WC to be used before the World Cup. Unlimited transfers during Wolrd Cup. Another WC for 2nd half of the season.

Popular strategy is deadend your team into BGW12 & WC13 to bring back a full contingent of City & Arsenal

    Palace defence is a conundrum.

Their stats are poor. So far they have been similar to Everton, Southampton and Leicester. The other side to that is they have played hard teams (Top 8 in the PL) in that run (Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle) and now the fixtures get easier.

Andersen seems a better pick than Guehi because of his long passing and threat from set pieces, but there is a slight price difference. The full-backs don't seem attacking enough to be worth it.

Worth a punt on a Palace defender? And if so, who?

Cheers. Anyway, I guess I didn't really answer your question OP....

They're all pretty similar. Probably the CBs have slightly more attacking threat than FBs. Andersen/Guehi almost deadeven in set-piece threat last season, but Andersen has a little extra assist potential

I am unsure what to do here. I have exact cash for Mitro > Toney for free. No defence options standing out and not keen on Izak with Wilson back.

I am also thinking of having both Trossard and Zaha till unlimited free transfers but means 352 and a non playing forward.

    Henderson Ward
    James Trippier Gabriel Saliba Neco

Don't rush it til you know the deal with Mitro. Heard some saying he walked off fine & could have been precautionary after knock for Serbia. Still in fine form & has great fixtures coming up.

Not really against Trossard but the fixtures are still generally tricky. I'm looking at maybe a one week punt on him in 12 (NFO)

Good point. The striker position seems to be the most fluid at the moment and Auba has to be considered. I’m looking at a long list at the moment that takes into account injuries, blanks and form. Could include

          Wilson
          Richarlison
          Firmino
          Jesus
          Scamacca

Saw your team earlier. Tough call. Balance between losing at least 3 in form City /Arsenal players now / over the next two weeks or WC12. I think I agree WC in GW 12 with at least 2 City/Arsenal on the bench is the way forward as your team looks fine at the moment

I think a lot will be in the same boat who still have WC. City and Arsenal both have good games in next 2 from an attacking perspective so it's hard to start offloading them with any real confidence. Martinelli vs TAA could be a bloodbath.

Rodrigo has to be in with a shout for midfielder.

I had a look at defenders under 5 and not too inspired. I’m happy with Schär. Coady or one of the Southampton defenders after next week. Dalot seems most attacking

The main issue is that Aaronson is probably our most important player now and his natural role is as a 10. Rodrigo could be accommodated by shifting Aaronson to the right & benching Sinisterra but Sini is starting to look like the better option now. I imagine Rodrigo will mainly cover for Bamford

Not wishing to look too kneejerk but Trossard and Almiron must be worth considering (or ASM if back)

Right lads, who is coming in instead of perisic? I am struggling to find a defender (that I don't already have) to replace him with.

Don't think Liverpool are doing much differently this season than last season.

The only thing that looks different is they have tilted the balance of their side slightly more to attack than defence. Diaz, Nunez, Salah is way more attacking than Mane, Firmino, Salah. Elliott (or Carvalho) in midfield is significantly more attacking than anyone they have had in there for a while.

It would be interesting seeing the first team attack combined with a midfield of Melo, Fabinho and Thiago.

The fact Elliot playing seems expose Trent is a bit of a fulcrum.

It doesn't help that Virgil has been poorer than usual, Robertson has been poorer than usual etc.

Losing Mane doesn't help either. Diaz is not nearly as creative as Mane could be for the team.

        Spot ON mister.
I would even add Mane is just a cut above Diaz in general. Cut above most, actually.
Ageing midfield, which now is not mobile enough to dominate games in lager bits of the game, and more vulnerable in transitions.
Gini Wijnaldum was also a key cog in this, as he is extremely quick and mobile for a midfielder, he had the pace of a winger.

They don’t press with the same intensity and desire, that’s the most obvious and worrying difference for them this season.
