The Scoreboard presents all the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) numbers you need from Saturday’s matches on one screen.

As well as LiveFPL‘s rundown of the goals, assists and bonus points from the day’s FPL action, we’re bringing you a selection of the Opta stats that arrive in our Premium Members Area almost immediately after full-time in each fixture.

Our usual Scout Notes article, which summarises more of the main FPL talking points, notable manager quotes and injury news in extra detail, will follow later.

BRIEF ROUND-UP

FPL Gameweek 9: Saturday’s goals, assists, bonus and statistics

The 32%-owned Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.9m) limped off with a knock to his foot in 10-man Fulham’s defeat to Newcastle United, with Marco Silva saying further assessment would be needed on the striker this week.

Callum Wilson (£7.2m) crowned his return to the Magpies’ starting line-up with a goal in a 4-1 win, while owners of Kieran Trippier (£5.4m) were fortunate enough to see the defender substituted – banking clean sheet points and one bonus in the process – before the Cottagers scored a late consolation.

Harry Kane (£11.4m) consolidated second place in the overall FPL points standings with a goal in the early kick-off, his seventh league strike in eight matches.

But north London was red after the lunchtime derby, with the most-sold player of Gameweek 9, Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m), almost inevitably getting on the scoresheet and collecting two bonus points in the process. FPL’s most-owned midfielder, Gabriel Martinelli (£6.6m) also banked an assist, while Granit Xhaka (£5.1m) climbed into the top 10 in the midfielders’ points table with his fifth attacking return of 2022/23.

Liverpool’s under-par defensive displays continued at Anfield, with Brighton playing their part in a six-goal classic. It’s now just two clean sheets in seven league matches for the Reds, and they’ve yet to play any of last season’s top five. The Seagulls had six big chances on Saturday – only Newcastle registered more.

Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) was more involved in terms of goal attempts but had to make do with a solitary assist as Leandro Trossard (£6.6m) stole the headlines, scoring a hat-trick and moving above the Egyptian to the top of the midfielders’ FPL points table in Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge of Brighton.

Gone was the wing-back system as new Chelsea boss Graham Potter went with a back four in the absence of Marc Cucurella (£5.1m), although the defensive issues continued as the victorious Blues made it six matches without a clean sheet at Selhurst Park.

Southampton meanwhile are still without a shut-out to their name in 2022/23 after slumping to a 2-1 defeat to Everton, who named Anthony Gordon (£5.6m) on the bench after the youngster struggled with illness in midweek.

Ivan Toney (£7.3m) had been competing with Dominic Solanke (£5.7m) for a place in some FPL managers’ Gameweek 9 Wildcards but both blanked in a goalless draw at Bournemouth. Another semi-popular purchase for those overhauling their squads, the hitherto unimpressive Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m), kickstarted his season with a double-digit haul against Wolves.

It's a nice and fun punt, especially being the last game of the week. I knew a lot of ManUtd supporters in my MLs wouldn't captain Haaland this week as they think they'll shut out City after a couple of wins but I was more surprised that nearly all Liverpool supporters in those leagues captained Salah. Even saw one on Toney, and even worse, Mitrovic

Haaland vs the smallest CB in PL history. I’m surprised how many are betting against Haaland

Martinez won’t be tasked with marking him in aerial duals though.

Yeah, true. I don’t think they can avoid that situation the whole game though with City trying to exploit it.

Hasn’t Martinez got some insanely impressive aerial duels won stats? I guess there’s been a few attackers (Tim Cahill an obvious one) who have overcome a height disadvantage with incredible leaping/timing - not possible to have a similar exception in central defence?

              Not particularly. From FBref:

              Aerial duels won /90 = 1.71 (16th percentile)

              % of aerial duels won = 57.9% (28th percentile)

Hmm thats quite a discrepancy given that FBref is for last 365 days also...

If he’s won 58% of aerial duels despite his size I guess that is pretty impressive and he’s probably decent at jumping. Vs Haaland is surely insurmountable though

Yeah, I fully expect Haaland to score, but hoping he doesn’t. It’s hard as a Liverpool fan to captain a City attacker, but it’s looking like the title race is pretty much over at this point so I’ll probably join the permacaptain ranks once he’s played us

Honestly Haaland doesn't tend to be a huge threat aerially with headers anyway, it's his crazy ability to get his feet up high that's the threat

Yes, also Zinchenko - he enables Xhaka to push up into forward positions. They have experience of the Pep way, although Jesus's scruffy bundle in was very non-City, so he's added that to his game.

Palace are down to 4 fit defenders.

It's a tiny squad. The first eleven is classy but essentially no depth beyond that. Last season may have flattered as Palace had the best injury record in the league.

Fair dos - Palace defence is the one to be on that week for sure.

My money no object selection 😉 would be Andersen if fit but truth to tell there's little enough between any of them.

@FPL BRAINS has given me a solution. I have only 0.5 ITB and that will be exact to do Martinelli > Trossard and Mitro > Wilson. Will be for a hit but I need to get rid of one Arsenal for GW12.

I am also contemplating keeping Gabriel and Saliba as there are no other standout defenders and Arsenal are looking decent at the back. I can get back Martinelli from GW13 if need be. Seems like Chelsea have a way to go before their defensive issues are sorted out as well so might bring in Cancelo for James after BGW12. I believe Trippier is set forget so won't be going anywhere at this point. I am also willing to give Sterling a decent run in my team. So for GW10 and the 2 moves which includes a -4

    Henderson
    James Trippier Neco
    Sterling Diaz Maddison Trossard
    Haaland Kane Wilson

    Ward Saliba Gabriel Dasilva

    Yay or neh?

I don't disagree Trossard in a front two is good, but it feels like this is the wrong week to make the move.

You know Arsenal's attacking play is going to target Trent & Martinelli will benefit from that. Corners his side too.

You don't need to get rid of an Arsenal player till GW12.

Can't you just do Mitro > Wilson if you're going that route and save the FT?

You could even sell Diaz for Trossard, which leaves you some money to upgrade Sterling if you need.

Klopp has no choice but to give up on the idea of allowing Trent to link up in midfield. All the teams are exposing the right side of Liverpool's defence being left open because of Trent wondering around.

No point in getting removing playing assets which have a game in 12, waste of FT. Diaz to Trossard will be sideways. I still want atleast one Pool attack at the moment.

Wilson is a good choice if Mitrovic is out for a while. I'd be inclined to keep Martinelli for the next 2 (space behind Trent to exploit; Kristensen prone gallavanting upfield & leaving space behind too) but if you feel you need to move him now due to the blank then no objections to Trossard

Sell one injured striker for another one who will be injured very soon? Martinelli is a season keeper so far

I got incredibly lucky yesterday. 30% of my points came from Burn and Schär both being brought off a few minutes before Fulham scored…

Don’t think I’ve benefitted from a double def sub like that before.

Shame about the rest of the gameweek haha

Heya! Yer, combo of super busy and the 10% has lessened my interactions on here.

It’s looking ok: very mixed and streaky, which is hardly surprising given the player pool.

Raya: Burn, Schär, Chilwell; Foden, Bernardo, Sterling, Saka; Isak, Darwin, Firmino.

Terrible OR but I’m having fun haha.

        How’s your season going?

Although the other side to this argument is that if Newcastle didn't replace most of their defence with the final set of subs, would they have actually conceded?

Yeah I don't own any Newcastle defence so was pretty happy to see Fulham score, only to find out they'd all been replaced and it actually pushed Trippier into the bonus points.

Have to say it's pretty unlikely Fulham score without them swapping out pretty much the whole back 4 so can't complain too much.

You can't complain for sure, Howe changed 3/4 back line at 84 min. A bit weird and effed my Pope CS points.

    Defence is

    TAA Cancelo Trippier Saliba Neco

    Playing a 433

A). Sell Trent to another defender (who though, nobody seems to be keeping clean sheets)
    B) Sell Trent to cheap bench player and upgrade bench mid to a Trossard or Rashford
    C). Keep

    Cheers

Think he was referring to De Zerbi. To be fair, any manager of any team is not going to know what to expect from Brighton. They are a very good side tbf and have a very attack minded manager.

It's true he is referring to De Zerbi but the manager to say I don't have a clue what we need to do for the upcoming game is amateurish at best

Liverpool have gone through a huge change with Mane leaving. Klopp did make a mistake with his lineup vs Brighton but Diaz and think Nunez arrived back late plush Jota is made of glass and only returned from injury recently so he probably did not want to risk too much.

Brighton are going to cause loads of upsets going forward.
