Erling Haaland (£12.2m) is without a fixture in Blank Gameweek 12, so the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) captaincy debate is more open than usual.

Another premium pick at Liverpool, of course, is still the front-runner for the armband.

As usual, the Captain Sensible article is here to highlight which assets have the best chance of hauling.

First, we will assess the fallout of the captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Tuesday’s 18:00 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Who is the best captain for FPL Blank Gameweek 12? 1

Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) is the clear winner of the captain poll, with over half of the total votes cast by users at the time of writing.

No other player has garnered more than 15% of votes at this stage, with Leandro Trossard (£11.4m) currently in second place, backed by 14.11% of our users.

Harry Kane (£11.4m) occupies third place with a little over 10% of the vote, followed by Mason Mount (£7.7m) and Wilfried Zaha (£7.5m) some way further back.

THE MAIN CANDIDATES

MOHAMED SALAH

Mohamed Salah delivered the knock-out blow in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over modern-day rivals Manchester City, handing City their first defeat this season.

Liverpool’s Egyptian spun Joao Cancelo (£7.3m), all too easy for the Portuguese international’s liking, before slotting coolly past Ederson (£5.5m), who had previously denied Salah one-on-one.

Much of the recent Salah narrative in the community focuses on whether the Egyptian represents value with Erling Haaland (£12.2m) dominating the captaincy armband conversation every week.

In recent days, Salah has issued a stark reminder that rumours of his demise have been greatly exaggerated, with his eight-point return against the division’s best team in Gameweek 11 swiftly following the fastest hat-trick in Champions League history.

Liverpool generated more than two expected goals against Manchester City, and an advanced and central deployment helped Salah place top for non-penalty expected goal (NPxG) in Gameweek 11, with 0.86.

Notably, Salah ranks second over the last six matches for non-penalty involvement (NPxGI), with 4.33, bettered by only the imperious Erling Haaland.

Above: Mohamed Salah (No.11) was pushed front and centre against Manchester City, leading to greater goal involvement for the Egyptian

Salah’s visitors West Ham arrive at Anfield following a disappointing 1-1 draw at Southampton in Gameweek 11, with wayward finishing costing the Hammers.

Despite one clean sheet in the last six matches, West Ham demonstrate strong defensive underlying numbers over the period ranking best for expected goals conceded (xGC), with 3.73.

The Hammers’ place in the top three for shots inside the box conceded (32), set piece attempts against (eight), and bog chances conceded (four) over the last six matches.

However, a raft of injuries to senior centre-backs Craig Dawson (£4.8m), Kurt Zouma (£4.5m) and Angelo Ogbonna (£4.4m) has forced David Moyes into fielding an unorthodox and unestablished defence which Salah, Nunez et al can exploit.

currently I have 10 starters but Im worried about Doherty starting and I have 3m itb, so would you get Robbo in for a hit to get 11 players or 10 incase Doherty is benched ?

Im wildcarding next week so its a 1 week move, other option would be Guehi/Anderson as I think thats the most likely CS.

OR should I just leave it as is and go with 10 ?

Who do you think he'll be benched for?! Conté said he was happy with him versus Everton, Emerson R. is still suspended and Spence unlikely to start. Perisic trial on the right didn't work- and it's also been suggested that he could start as part of a front 3.

Not entirely sure tbh I havent really been following spurs properly this season and was very unsure on which full back to go for last week as my James replacement and Doherty seemed the most nailed of the 3 for these two weeks, but with conte its always up in the air in these positions, maybe Im just worrying unnecessarily.

If wildcarding next gw i would definitely take a punt on Taa/Robbo.

If you have 10 starters I'm looking at move as a -2, because you'll get 2 points for playing 60 minutes anyway. I think it's definitely worth a transfer especially since you have 3m ITB so you can get a premium player

yeah thats what im thinking as well, the punt is worth it and I can consider it a -2

Is Andersen worth the .2 over Guehi?

Almost twice the expected assists per 90 and over 10 times the expected goals per 90 according to understat, twice the bonus points per 90 and more baps per 90. So I'd say Andersen's worth the .2 over Guehi.

Does he though? Guehi and Andersen both had 4 yellow cards total last season. So far this season, Andersen has 1 and Guehi has 2.

I went with Sinisterra. He had my attention anyway before his red card a few weeks ago, and I liked what I saw from him in the Arsenal match.

Is Foden to Trossard for a hit too much of a risk? The plan is to immediately switch back to Foden or Saka.

Wanted to bring in Saint Max seems like he not ready come back. Madds yellow card pointed me to do one following moves for minus 8 unfortunately which one.

    A) Emerson Madds > Newcastle mid and Robo
    B) Son Madds > Newcastle mid Salah

B out of the two. But I wouldn't do a -8. I'd only get rid of Maddison.

Transfers done right before the price changes - Salah, Harrison and Guehi in for KDB, Saliba and Maddison for a hit.

Will reconsider tomorrow if it's worth getting Dier or VVD for Neco for -8.

not sure about Saliba out for a hit and better options than Harrison, but alright... I'd say Neco > Virgil might pay off in gw12 already

Saliba is on 4 yc so needed to get rid of him anyway, plus I wouldn't have 11 if I hadn't sold him.

Yeah, I guess Brighton mid was better, but Harrison is longer term option, while I would sell Brighton mid immediatelly.

Just got Salah in for -4 and think I'm still leaving the armband on Trippier this week, West Ham defence relatively solid and Trippier decent chance of cleansheet + attacking return, mad or makes sense?

          What if?

What if he scores a hat trick and 2 assists?
It’s about choosing the more favourable person for attacking returns, and out of Salah & Trippier, the decision is simple.

    3. Casual Player
      • 5 Years
      3 years, 6 months ago

If it's a -4 then WC next week you have to captain IMO, otherwise the hit is pretty questionable.

If it's a -4 with the long-term GW12-16 view then I think choose the captain you think will score the most points. If that's Trippier, do it

cheers, got him in for 12-16 and I only had 9-10 players prior to the move

I genuinely think both return but if I had to back one to score double digit it's Trippier if Newc keep a cleansheet

wc team g2g? not sure about my cheap defenders, but not too many options... Zaha + Trossard > Foden + Saka for a hit in gw13

    Kepa
    Trippier Schär Guehi Webster
    Salah Zaha Trossard Andreas
    Firmino Mitrovic
    Ward Martinelli Cancelo Haaland

Not REALLY much difference between the two but Anderson's long diagonal balls will get some assists. Slightly more goal threat from corners too.

So does Salah blank vs WHU?
He Scores or Assists every other GW.

    GW1 - 12
    GW2 - blank
    GW3 - 8
    GW4 - blank
    GW5 - 10
    GW6 - blank
    GW9 - 5
    GW10 - blank
    GW11 - 8
    GW12 ... surely another blank then? 🙂

Just frustrating as before the TAA/Diaz/James injuries I had plans to really upside chase this week but I'm now in the same position as the people who have already WCed.

I'm normally an early WC user and I think will go back in future seasons.

I wouldn't worry that much if you can't reasonably get Salah in this week, he's much more desirable for 13,14 and 16 imo, likely not the end of the world to miss out on him vs WHU
